Would money change your mind?
Jump to: Newest in thread
I was talking to mate I hadn't seen for years. We got talking about the internet and what we do on it.
He said he was on a site similar to fab. He had a few women block him.
He won the lottery and it got around a lot of people on the website.
Suddenly some women who had previously said he was ugly or not their type started messaging him asking if he wanted to meet. He said he finds it hilarious. He said one woman even created a new profile to get around the block he put on her. He said before he won the lottery when he contacted the woman who created the new profile she told him he was ugly and wouldn’t shag him I he was the last man on earth. Not a nice thing to say and obviously you would remember who said it.
To my question ladies. If you turned a guy down then found out he had won the lottery would change your mind about him now he is rich?

To be fair any lady, or gentleman, shallow enough to do this would never own up to it.
At least I would imagine they would have too much shame to own up to this.
But if I am proven wrong I would like to hear how they justify it.

Life's easier with money. It doesn't make you happy but it doesn't make you unhappy either. It doesn't bring you health but its a darn site easier to be ill if you don't need to worry about paying the gas bill. |

I said all other things being equal so they'd both be equally attractive or unattractive.
Of course its a hypothetical situation and in reality I would go for the man I loved regardless of wealth. In a casual sex situation I'd go for the most attractive again, regardless of wealth. |

Someone's income/wealth has nothing to do with who we choose to meet. In fact I can see it being a turn off for me more than a turn on, I skip over profiles on here that bleat about having a flash car / huge house/ 6 figure salary. If that's your most attractive feature I'm out. T |

Indeed. But isn't it also the case that you are more likely to love the wealthier man. Say you are single and looking to date. You have two men in their forties. One is unemployed, has never held down a proper job and lives with his parents. The other has a professional career, a good salary and his own house. Are you not far more likely to date the latter man and hence come to love him?
Winning the lottery as the OP posited is a different because that says nothing about the nature of a person.

It's not something I discuss with those I meet so I would be blissfully unaware. Someone who feels the need to make everyone aware of how wealthy they are would actually put me off. |

"No, rich people can still be dickheads too
I'm not saying your mate is one, but money shouldn't change anything. "
But it does, for some people. The Op has a point, and it's a fact. However, I dong think it has everything to do with the cash. Money can make people more confident than they would be if they were in debt as an example. People pick up on confidence. (I know this doesn't work when it's a profile we see)
But your right as wel, I know people who turned into absolute cocks after coming into money. Such a turn off for me. |

In my view, the OP's story strikes me as rather unlikely. It may well be just be some morality tale about how all women are mercenary bitches.
Personally, if I won the lottery and found that loads of women suddenly wanted to have sex with me, I'd be filling my boots |

Indeed. There's a lot of bollocks talked about how money shouldn't effect how you feel about someone. It obviously does. You are rather more likely to get a woman to go on a date with you if you can afford to take her to a nice restaurant rather than McDonald's. |

A self made millionaire, who has shown the initiative, drive and flair to mke something of life,is likely to more attractive initially. That person is likely to be outgoing and confident, all smiles and charm, partly how they got to that position in the first place.
A feckless waster, who has nothing to show for forty plus years of life, probably has not much to say,no personality and no charm, possibly poor hygiene habits too.
Of course the go getter is a more attractive prospect.
But,,,,,a lottery winner, full of themselves, bragging and ostentatious is more likely to be the kind of fool easily parted from their money.
Don't go for the publicity would be my advice. |

The likelihood of a man in his forties wanting to date me with a view to loving me in a long-term relationship is unlikely but in the interests of discussion lets suspend our disbelief.
Yes, I would be more likely to go for the wealthier guy in the situation you describe. The other guy sounds like an idle layabout at face value.
Life isn't as straight forward as that, however I've lived long enough to know that love doesn't pay the rent. I'm also a realist when it comes to human nature (some would say cynic) and if gods forbid I was ever single again the likelihood of me falling in love ever again is remote. |

No money doesnt cuddle you or climb on board to have some dirty sex unless you pay for it and some women and men can be encouraged by money .
But to me some people have money abd also can be shallow like people without it but still the world goes round.
And for me id be ok with a cuppa and a piece of cake then some naughty sex and let that speak for its self !!!!xx |

No. I have a type and it's irrelevant of great riches. I've met affluent guys but if there's little to no chemistry, there'll be no repeat meets. |

Both sexes seem to have issue eith the mercenary nature of 'love'. The polite thing is to pretend that women are just more likely to fall in 'love' with wealthy men and men are just more likely to fall in 'love' with conventionally attractive women. Enter tirade of bullshit from people that don't have the looks or money to play the game and therefore make up counter factual explanations... |

Yes, absolutely. Money is wonderful for creating security and certainty.
I know it's not everything and wealth can make some people misers. I went out with a pretty rich guy awhile back when I was earning about £16k pa. He took me on holiday to the Seychelles. I paid my own way, he didn't even offer. Rich people don't get that way by spending it.
But anyway, for me this is purely hypothetical, a wealthy man will have his pick. |

No. When I'm on meets, I don't even let potential meets buy me a drink.
No expectation that way. So someone having money is of no interest to me, when we both know we're meeting up for a nsa evening. |

Attractive! That's a big word.
By my reckoning, if you picked 1000 random guys from a village, only about 2 of them would be what we call "undateables". The remaining 998 will line up in a continuum of acceptable all the way to extremely hot.
100 k in the bank can rank scale anyone from acceptable to very very hot! Money talks. |

I grew up with wealth. I’ve also hidden from bailiffs in a poky flat in the kind of place where the local shop closing because someone got stabbed elicited no more than an eyeroll from me. Different issues. Money doesn’t solve anything and neither does penury. Education helps though. |

Wealth can attract the wrong type of person...but only if the person with the wealth allows it. Speaking from experience the best thing that happened to me was losing everything I'd built up. It opened my eyes to who exactly was there for me and who was there for the free drinks, nights out, parties holidays etc..
Ten years on the mate who stood by me then is still with me. Together we've built up a decent property business which has allowed us to delve into other areas. This week our first tenant retired so we dropped their rent to £1 a year. The pure happiness being able to do that one thing beats anything I had before from any party or holiday.
I was a fool, just like your friend will be if he entertains these women. My advise would be to enjoy the cash with those that matter most to him as it's easily gone and it's very unlikely he'll win the lottery again. |

No amount of money could make someone I wasn't attracted to attractive I'm afraid.
Depends how much store you put on things that money can buy, compared to companionship /love.

Sounds like a lot of bollocks.
There's no way I could remember all the people we've blocked or rejected - we do that because we're not interested!
But supposedly word somehow gets round a load of strangers who then suddenly remember people they've never know other than to be blocked. Hmmm
That aside - no I don't care about people's bank balance. We meet for a bit of fun, not to discuss financial planning. |
