Bingo. Tattoos should be for a persons own pleasure nothing more. I think tattoos can look amazing. But it's still the body that is sexy or not.

Tattoos are a personal choice really and even if a particular tattoo is really popular and most have the same it can still look great

I like to be different as you can see from my hair and choice of tattoos but for others they like to maybe wear certain clothes , certain haircuts , even down to their choice of ink because that's what makes them feel good

I may look and think it's not my choice but I wouldn't say I would think they are boring

I wouldn't deny any adult's right to have them, but I find them utterly repulsive. I can overlook one or two small ones.

Just out of interest, why would anyone want to mutilate themselves? Not being critical, just trying to understand. I have heard of temporary tattoos - surely these are a bit more sensible.

Mutilate ? Omg this is 2017 !

Basic forms of tattooing has been going on for thousands of years ... the Egyptians , aztecs , maui's to enhance their bodies whether it's thro beauty or war

I'm your eyes mutulation in my eyes art ... who's right or wrong ? I am not proclaiming everyone should ink themselves up but I certainly wouldn't be quite so damning

I personally don't like loads of genital piercings so wouldn't meet anyone with them but high five to them for expressing themselves in a way they want

Tattoos do not make a person sexy; regardless of what tattoo they have.

I'm not a fan of most tattoos but I like some artwork tattoos, if on the right body.

They are so common now they don't draw my attention. The person having them will be the reason I take notice.

Tattoos aren't a turn on for me. They aren't necessarily a turn off, either, but they certainly don't make someone sexier to me.

I do think they are so common these days as to be a bit uninteresting. I realized just how common they are when I was watching Naked Attraction and I was rather surprised when I saw someone who DIDN'T have a tattoo. In the end it was fine, though - they had a tattoo but it was on their chest so I just didn't see it until the end....

That's cool it's just sometimes these threads start to body shame and can turn unpleasant

We all have our preferences , age , shape , etc

I totally agree. Whether it's the same tattoo as others have or not it's still a personal choice and personal reason for getting it done, it doesn't make them boring. In my opinion tattoos don't make people sexy. Mine don't, I've been told before how crap they are and why did I get them done. My response? My body, my reasons, my choice. I did not get them done for other people, I got them done for me. If people find them ugly, boring etc. then don't have one done, if people find them off-putting then don't meet me, it really is that simple and I really couldn't care less.

I've met people with "dodgy", "boring", "not my taste" tattoos, they don't bother me because I'm not fucking the tattoo, I'm fucking someone who just happens to have tattoos. You can be beige or brightly coloured it makes no difference to me.

People use them like they use piercings, or usual hair colouring and cuts, to stand out from the crowd. And there is nothing wrong with that if that's what they want. But as now every man and his dog has got them it is no longer different or usual.I wonder what the next look at me fad will be?

Tribal tattoos are far too common, don't see the interest in them personally. But there are some pretty amazing tattoos out there, but also some cheap tacky ones, but when you pay cheap you get cheap.

I don't really think you can say tattoos are "common" in a snobbish way these days as all sorts of people from every walk of life have them - they are "common" only in the sense of plentiful. For some people they will always have negative connotations because of individual taste/upbringing. Like anything else that doesn't harm others, do what you like!

I have been considering a tattoo for several years. I know what I want, the style I want and where I want it. However we've just returned from holiday where it seemed that almost every woman had a tattoo on her shoulder, wrist or upper thigh. Its made me think twice because the majority of them didn't look great.

Where there's less body fat, yes it can be painful (depending on your pain threshold) but if it's 'little' shouldn't take too long..just keep that thought in your head while the needle is going in

The tattoo topic rarely changes

The 3 facts that seem to remain are:

People with tattoos never have a problem with people who don’t have tattoos, but......

And

A bad tattoo will always be a bad tattoo regardless of who or where

And

Personal taste ( as in life in general) is paramount

I always knew I’d have some

I never wanted to regret any though as I have friends who do

I waited a long time until I got inked & now every single one is poignant and I’m happy with and I will die so being

Tattoo’s don’t look good on most people. But when they’re on women or men who can pull it off, they look extremely hot.

The thing with tattoo’s is that they’re essentially an extension of your body. So you have to take care in design and placement (and ensure four body stays the same to keep them lookfor my good).

And 80% of the time people’s designs don’t fit their body correctly so they look weird to me and off putting.

"Tattoos have always been common. They are not usually done for sexual perposes.

Although some are! Sub has two in view in profile."

"I'm so thinking about having a little rose on my wrist,is it really painful there?

Where there's less body fat, yes it can be painful (depending on your pain threshold) but if it's 'little' shouldn't take too long..just keep that thought in your head while the needle is going in "

That's not reassuring

"Tattoo’s don’t look good on most people. But when they’re on women or men who can pull it off, they look extremely hot.

The thing with tattoo’s is that they’re essentially an extension of your body. So you have to take care in design and placement (and ensure four body stays the same to keep them lookfor my good).

And 80% of the time people’s designs don’t fit their body correctly so they look weird to me and off putting."

So basically you're saying that professional tattoo artists are purposely designing and misplacing designs on people's bodies? I'm sure your idea of where tattoos should go will be much better than their's

I actually quite like the feel of a tattoo being done

I find the first 10 mins I’m sitting there thinking ‘what the hell am I doing I’m not going to be able to take this’ then it’s just like an annoying scratch rather than pain

I do know when I’ve had enough tho and normally around the 5 hour mark I’m getting fidgety and stop as I swell quite easy and makes the skin more painful

A good tattooist would prefer another sitting than have you in too much pain

Do find it wipes me out tho and am really tired after

I find taking an ibruprofen before can help. For your first one, it’s mainly mind over matter. You need to relax and just go with it. Mine on the inside of my wrist didn’t hurt. As a women we go through far worse believe me! You can also get numbing cream that you rub on the area a couple of hours before. I actually enjoy the buzz of the needle and the feeling of it and I’m a wuss when it comes to pain x

5 hours blink! I'm pretty sure I couldn't do that. I'm going to see if the local tattooist is open this afternoon and see what his work is like. I feel like doing something drastic (for me that is)

Tattoos done with a needle don't hurt, and the endorphins kick in after about 20 minutes anyway - I've say for over 6 hours before and only stopped because my body started to reject the ink.

Tattoo-flu was pretty bad after a long session though.

If you want to try some real pain, get a bamboo tattoo or some piercings......then we can talk!

Research the tattooists in your area. Good ones will have websites and social media pages where they can show off their work and also people can comment and give reviews. Take your time even for a small one you don’t need to rush into anything

"I wouldn't deny any adult's right to have them, but I find them utterly repulsive. I can overlook one or two small ones.

Just out of interest, why would anyone want to mutilate themselves? Not being critical, just trying to understand. I have heard of temporary tattoos - surely these are a bit more sensible."

My tattoos aren't to be sexy. They are a lasting tribute to the man I was married to for 25 years who died far too young.

I have 3 tattoos had it done the last two over the last 3 weeks. For me all of mines has a meaning and it's not just a show off . It's depend on me if I would like to show them or not..not trying to catch anyone eyes or act like a cool kid . But on the site note , had to wait a pretty long time for a free appointment ..what give me that feeling it's must be a popular thing nowdays.

It entirely depends on the type of tattoos, as to whether they look good or not. It also depends on the way a person presents themself.

I get judged for having tattoos, and some people avoid me (on here and otherwise) as a result of having full sleeves, and make a judgement that I'm likely to be a chavvy troublemaker. The truth is I'm a very well spoken, well educated professional but nobody would think that at first glance because I have tattoos and a shaved head.

Books/covers etc..

It's art to some, others don't like it. Each to their own. If tattoos are a reason to not find someone attractive, or even see them as "mutilated", you most likely weren't compatible anyway x

People's tattoos and hair and clothes are all part of who they are. You either find it attractive or your don't but don't feel there is a need to be negative about anyone. We should all be encouraging and positive and give people a lift or a boost and make them feel good

"I will retire to a nursing home with nothing more than scars from my life.

I have no issue with tats per se, just not something I would want or actively seek out.

I am probably going to be a novelty item with neither ink or piercings to show off "

Must admit they do look silly on people who live in care and nursing homes .

Pointless sleeve tattoos filled with flowers and fish, no meaning at all? Unless your branding yourself into the florist / fish tank cleaner crowd

"Pointless" is an interesting turn of phrase. What would you say the "point" of a tattoo is? I mean, if you think that particular style is pointless, what kind of tattoo DOES have a point?

Depends on the person. Ink on skinny, pasty guys in my opinion just looks funny, often looks an ill thought out jump on a fashion bandwagon.

I've yet to meet someone who later in life haven't regretted at least some of their tattoos.

I play rugby with a lot of South sea islanders and their tribal designs steeped in heritage and culture along with big muscular dark bodies look amazing.

A tattoo defines a person, who they are and where they are in their life. The point I’m making there seems to be a lot of the same there. I once saw a guy who had ‘individual’ tattooed on his neck, when I asked what it meant he replied, “ cos my mates got one in it’

I think tattoos in general are sexy!

I’m definitely attracted to men and women with tattoos

I know they are more common now but in my opinion that’s a good thing

My partner loves my tattoos and I love his’

They make us who we are

If one is insecure enough to feel that a drawing on their skin defines them somehow, I find that a little sad. My tattoos certainly don't define me, any more than my wallpaper, my car, the colour of my socks or my patchy lawn define me. They're pictures that I like.
