I came downstairs at 05:30, turned the telly on and went to make a cup of tea. Then wondered why the telly hadn't come on, as I couldn't hear anything. When I wandered back in to press the button again there was a black screen with white lettering that said words to the effect of Rest in Peace Diana.
Then I went to work. |

Driving to work in NI and wondering why Radio 1 was playing sombre music, I thought that the Queen Mum had popped her clogs.
For 9/11 I was at work in NATO HQ and saw the second tower get hit on live tv, never was the phrase "shit's got real" more apt when it was announced that the Pentagon had been hit. |

Both times I was in work..
One on day shift and on the phone to my hubby and he told me about the first plane, we googled it in the clean room we were working in and were super shocked. The site went down after that and we all came out of the area to find out what was going on. The second on nights in a chatroom killing time and someone came in and said Diana had been killed.
Seems so long ago now. But both very shocking and somewhat world changing. |

It is strange that today and only today we can remember exactly what we did 20 years ago to the day. any other day we would all say " howw the hell do i know what i did exactly 20 years ago . Just think its interesting . Or maybe I'm just wierd lol .
Then I went to work."

For 9/11 was actually sat around the table in work eating pizza and discussing how pizza in New York was far superior to anywhere else, then it came in the radio.
For Dianna I was persuading my daughter then very very small to eat her breakfast. |

For Diana I woke up and my mum told me in the kitchen while I was making a bacon sandwich. I was 12/13.
For 9/11 I was awake watching the news, still jet lagged a bit as I had been on my 1st abroad hoilday without my family to Ayia Napa with Club 18-30. It was an AWFUL holiday so I came back early and left the bitches I went with there. Saw the 1st plane then the 2nd.
In a twist of fate we were meant to fly home 12th September but as I left early I didn't. The other bitches said the airport and the plane journey were eerie and awful. Any noise. Any loud voices. Panic ensued. Glad I had such a shit time and made the decision to go home early. Miss C Xx |

Thanks for all your memories . I think it's a sombre day today . However if it was let's say the 7th of October could you all remember what you were doing on that day 20 years ago . I guess not. Maybe I'm just kinda strange lol |

Dianna was a Sunday and I was in my cousins house cos I'd slept over the night before.
9/11 I was in my grans house watching Sabrina the teenage witch on nickelodeon and a message came on to turn to the news. I called my gran in and we started watching and saw the second plane hit live. Was the first time I smoked in front of a family member (I was 18) and I had one of my grans Berkeley menthols. |

I can. I have a highly superior autobiographical memory. Would've been Friday and I'd cooked savoury cheese slice in school I remember walking to the bus bay with the boy from my class that I fancied (who I later went on to lose my virginity to) and we were eating my savoury cheese slice on the bus! |

When Diana died I woke up after a serious hard night out, thought I was hallucinating as the same images of the crash were on every tv channel, so went back to bed!
911 my best friend had gone on holiday and left me the keys to his house, I was on his sofa having sex with a member of staff who worked for me at the time, it was the start of a 4 year relationship! |

Diana, at work when I heard. My boss reminded me I'd only commented on something in the paper the day before & said "one day they'll hound her to her death"
911 got in from work, turned TV on & thought "oh God, not another action movie" had a shower, went back to TV, then realised what I was actually watching

Diana.
I'd stayed at Mr B's house and it came on the TV or radio.
9/11 was the day of my Grandads funeral. Didn't know anything about it until we'd gone to pick up our daughter from a close friend, who'd looked after her for the day. |

Diana - I was 19 and working a Sunday shift at a frozen food place.
Thought it was wierd as every radio station had no music on it.
Didn't really sink in until the evening.
9/11 - I was on a week off work waiting to go on holiday 2 days later.
Watched the whole thing on sky news. Went to Greece 2 days after and my flight was the only one not delayed. armed police everywhere!

9/11 I was at a spa in France recovering from an operation. I watched it all unfolding on French tv. I thought it was a film at first.
Diana dying I was just getting in from being at work. I put the radio on as I put the kettle on and it was all the radio was talking about. |

No idea on either , and quite frankly not in the slightest bit bothered .
9/11 was the start of a world changing threat , which of course makes it an event worthy of some thought .
The death of Diana was tragic , but whether it's worthy of such media hype etc.... is questionable . |

Diana - I woke up stupidly early for a 12 year old me so thought oh I'll put some kids TV on til everyone gets up, kept changing channels to find something and it was nothing but news and I watched it then woke my mum up to tell her.
9/11 - my grandad picked me up from college and said a plane has hit the world trade centre and I didn't have a clue where he was on about. Only when I got home and watched it that I realised. |

On way to work at 5:30 in the Sunday morning when radio stations all had news of Diana, felt numb when I got to work!
At a conference in NEC for 911, and they never broke the news until it was over! |

Diana ~ I started my Sunday paper round and it was reported she'd been in the crash, by the time I finished she was dead.
9/11 ~ At Disneyland Paris, couldn't understand why they shut the park early. Went back to hotel and thought I was watching a movie on TV, called home to ask what was going on? Confirmed what I was seeing was real. Stuck in Paris for 2 days before we could fly home.
Will never forget these tragic moments in my life.

Diana I was in a B&B in Brighton with my ex and 2 young daughters.
9/11 I'd just landed in Italy, working, got to my hotel room and saw the 2nd plane hit.
Spent the evenings for a week talking to total strangers in the street. Everyone so scared about flying home or how they'd even get home. Not a week you forget. |
