Depends whether the profile appeals. The message length doesn't make much difference. ..although I really can't be doing with reading war and peace as an opening message.

It's rare. I'm certainly not complaining about personal taste. I don't expect everyone I write to to like me, hell no, but even with thoughtful tailored messages it's rare to get an answer; even a "no thank you".

If someone goes to the trouble of writing a lengthy detailed message, we would always reply. Minimalists messages we are less likely to replay to.
