Got a narrow boat booked in July for a week on the grand union canal. Family trip, we've never done anything like this and will have youngsters with us. What kind of thing should we expect? Hoping the fresh air and country side will give them a break from the digital age. Any tips/advice from seasoned boaters greatly appreciated

Went on a couple of narrow boat holidays when I was at school, absolutely loved them, will never forget the Tardebigge Locks on the Worcester and Birmingham canal, 30 locks in just over 2 miles!! We were exhausted at the end!

I spent a fab week with a guy I met online on his 60 foot narrowboat last summer, we posted messages each day to let people know where we were mooring each evening, so we could arrange for people to join us onboard for fun. Very relaxing and enjoyable cruising, lots of locks and walking between them, nice food and drink in canal side pubs, and some intense and exciting evenings... Can’t wait to do it again..
