As far as I know amyl nitrate (popper's) are largely used by clubbers, the LGBT community and recently swingers Because it not only gives you a 'head-rush high', (enhancing drug use and combating 'come downs'), but it also causes certain muscles to relax (namely your butt hole and throat). It's also used in industrial and domestic cleaning products. Too much of anything will kill you, a little if what you like does you good.

There is so much misinformation about pops these days. The ones sold in U.K. sex shops etc should be avoided at all costs because they are typically made from Isopropyl Nitrite, which is dangerous for a number of reasons, particularly eye damage. Then there are the general blood pressure related risks with them, and they should never be taken if you are on blood pressure or erectile dysfunction medication.
Back in the day, before they were prohibited formulations, they were made from Amyl or Isobutylene Nitrite, which were far less noxious than Isopropyl. Also, they were much purer products, but these days they are produced in god knows where by god knows who.
You can still get the older formulations from some European suppliers, but you take the risk of them being intercepted and, whilst unlikely, may also face prosecution.
Finally, in addition to the gay scene, they are also popular in the heavy rubber bondage scene. |

Very commonly used in the lgbtq scene. I've heard they 'relax' you, which for some apparently makes it easier for them to receive anal sex.

They are called that due to the noise when breaking the seal I believe.
I find as long as you relax, the chemicals bring on a sense of euphoria and sexually turns anyone into a compete deviant, but it only lasts a few seconds. Some will give you headache, but not the better/imported stuff
If you are on anythig else, those seconds seem to heighten things too.

The name comes from the packaging it used to come in..it used come in little cigarette sized glass veils that had some sort of covering .you used open it by snapping it in half and it would make a pop,then you take a few big wiffs .it used to be prescribed for angina, the same thing that viagra was developed for..that's the reason you should avoid taking them whilst taking any ED meds...I used to love them..but at the same time I used to call it "bottled sore head"...taking them at the right moment can enhance an orgasam in a very intense way..the problem is getting the timing right.. |

I find that my senses, especially hearing, are heightened. And yes, relaxes certain muscles and makes anal easier.

Not quite counteract but interact.
Using these (or any nitrates, incluing prescribed medicines) and Viagra could potentially be fatal. It can cause seriously low drops in blood pressure. The other issue is the interaction is entirely unpredictable in nature so it may be fine one time, but the next could kill you!
Please don't mix the two folx! All for having a lot of fun and I recognise that ED meds cab play a vital role in helping some engage in that. It's a risky game though.

From what I have heard, the new ones in this country are just not the same, legal reasons probably.

I tried them once when I was younger, not as an aid to sex but because a friend said: "Here, give this a sniff.". I did and instantly regretted it. I felt nauseated and dizzy, the actual aroma was off putting too.

I may know the reason for this here in the UK sales are restricted and the isobutyl they sell behind the counters can cause sickness and nausea also when they use them I can no longer keep an erection... But if you order online from Europe (you can Google the sites) you can buy amyl nitrates which are the correct pops and are so much better for everyone. Isobutyl have been linked with eyesight loss and other medical issues... Not saying amyl is fully safe as it's still a chemical but it's known to be a better substance.

No, it’s Isopropyl that is typically sold in the U.K., see my previous post.
Isobutyl was a decent formulation back in the day and still is if you can get a good quality one from abroad. Successive governments have banned the prevailing formulations and that is why they keep coming up with new variations such as the awful isopropyl, which poses a serious risk of blindness.
But even poor quality amyl, alkyl and isobutyl formulations can be dangerous as it is all about the purity. And all these formulations oxidise quickly, that is why any pads you put them on quickly smell stale. Back in the day they would put little chemical pellets in the bottles which helped to limit oxidisation, but later lower quality ones simply contained fake ceramic pellets that did nothing.
These are not to be trifled with, especially if you are older and have heart/circulatory problems. |

Dislike them, never purchased or had any desire to use them. Sometimes guys and gurls stick them under my nose insisting I have a whiff, have tried them and they do absolutely nothing for me whatsoever. Regardless of brand or how many snorts up my nostrils. Having said this, know others swear by them. Each to own, just not for me thanks. |

Used to sniff them very occasionally when high on E at raves and clubs in the 90s and 00s. Gave you that rush of blood to your head when dancing. Wasn't a fan of them generally, especially sober. The high is only brief and they stink. Sniff them too much you end up with a pounding headache. Someone accidentally poured a bottle on me once at the first UK Love Parade. Proper made me nauseous for a couple of hours. Never really used them in sex. They're mainly used on the gay sex scene. |
