Lot of us naughty Muslim singers are going to be away from playing during this time. I wish you all a happy Ramadan and hope it goes well

Yes quite true!! Lmao

A better definition of Ramadan:

During the blessed month of Ramadan, Muslims all over the world abstain from all food, drink, and other physical needs during the daylight hours (such as smoking or sex). But Ramadan is much more than just not eating and drinking: it is a time to purify the soul, refocus attention on God and practice self-discipline and sacrifice.

As an atheist I find the concept of religion utterly bizzare. My divine ruler is a beautiful little thing called 'conscience' that I gained through evolution. it purely exists within and grants me permission to abstain if I choose and likewise overindulge, never judges my sins but keeps me on the straight and narrow by gifting me the knowledge of what's right and what's wrong. Each to their own of course, but if us atheists are right, we are having a LOT of fun before we bite the big one.x

That must be quite difficult in Northern latitudes. For example dusk isn't until 10:36 tonight in Edinburgh and dawn will be at 3:44 tomorrow for those who are planning on an early snack. By the time the month has gone by we'll be in the zone where it doesn't properly get dark (although the sun will be below the horizon if that's what counts).

It just like lent when I was a kid, everyone saying you have to give up something for lent

I always said Why? Was told it's in the bible just another way of embedding the control over the masses as in you will get up and pray at certain times of the day and congregate with others and proclaim you're faith ect.

Much easier being a non believer

"But Ramadan is much more than just not eating and drinking: it is a time to purify the soul, refocus attention on God and practice self-discipline and sacrifice."

One of the few things the Faiths have going for them is they force you to make time for more soulful stuff like this. I hope you feel that greater sense of connection.

Don't let the insecure atheists bait you. They find most expressions of spirituality threatening enough to want to jump on them, even when they have nothing to do with them. One can only imagine it's because their logical beliefs don't quite sit well with them so their arguments, and the agreement of their peers, helps them feel more secure that they're right. It must be exhausting.

Peace

Firstly: as usual, when an atheist expresses their beliefs it seems others jump to attack, most atheists couldn't give a shit what religion gives you, pray to a your god a martyr a bin bag for all I care.

Secondly: as per this usual with those. that stick their neb in, you are totally misinformed, religion and spirituality are SEPERATE things, I can be spiritual as an atheist.

So seeing a smile this is a forum and someone reflected their religious beliefs, I am entitled to express mine, it's called an exchange of opinions it's what the free world currently allows us to do.

The only person with in any issues is you and that high horse you're perched on.

And finally my logical beliefs sit just fine with me as evolution is far more convincing and "spiritually" rewarding than the idea of some bloke in the sky telling me what I should and should not do and who I should and should not love whatever sexuality they are?

So kindly take your religion and.....

I also do not align to a main stream religion, I've tried, it just didn't stick in my brain. However; I have respect for people of faith and at times have felt a little jealous of the help they draw from their faith. Good Ramadan to you OP.

A religious thread will have the phrase "man in the sky" as quickly as as bareback a one will get "russian roulette". The need to put down the beliefs of others exposes your own insecurity or lack of class, you choose.

Good luck OP, what you are doing requires a level of self control anyone would benefit from, religious or otherwise.

Haha! Remind me which chapter of the Holy Koran says 'Be thy into swinging for eleven months of the year but in the Holy Month, keep it in your pants'?

You 'Muslim singers' are funny.

Though Mr Aziz Mian is worth checking out cos he wasn't so scared or hypocritical. He did whatever he wanted, even in Ramadan.

We are meant to fast from the age of puberty.

But saying that we are meant to have food and drink in the morning to help us. You can get dehydrated it's to teach you how others who are less fortunate feel the pangs of hunger and for them it's not for a month it's their reality. As for children some try and do half a day. Essentially one is not mean to fast if it will cause them harm or if they are unwell as well as pregnant women

Yes quite true!! Lmao

A better definition of Ramadan:

During the blessed month of Ramadan, Muslims all over the world abstain from all food, drink, and other physical needs during the daylight hours (such as smoking or sex). But Ramadan is much more than just not eating and drinking: it is a time to purify the soul, refocus attention on God and practice self-discipline and sacrifice."

Even pregnant women have a "choice" whether they want to fast or not. Those who fast (the majority) say God will safeguard the unborn baby. Wonder if that has ever been studied scientifically. Oh, yes it has!

Haha! We are being preached Islam by a guy who's spending his day on this site while fasting! He also says he can have a wank after sunset when it stipulates that he's not allowed to wank at all! And pregnant women can avoid fasting due to their 'condition' but many are pressured into it. Not always directly but by the fact that if they keep fasts they are told how well they've done and how great they are.

If you preach Islam Mr OP try reading your holy book first.

Starvation during the day followed by binge eating after dark is very bad for the metabolism, it causes unhealthy blood glucose fluctuations that can trigger diabetes in those with a genetic predisposition, also the body has to work MUCH harder to digest food after dark which causes sleep disruption, imbalance, weight gain and degradation to general health that can lead to long term problems resulting in chronic illness.

Considering that Your Divinity basically wants you to be fat and diabetic with chronic illnesses..

May I ask please.

What happens if you break the fast?

If you give in and have a drink or a cheeky nandos?

I'm not being sarcastic just curious is there some sort of penance or something?

Or do you have to do extra prayers?

I guess it would be perfect for night workers as they can sleep all day.

"But Ramadan is much more than just not eating and drinking: it is a time to purify the soul, refocus attention on God and practice self-discipline and sacrifice.

So kindly take your religion and....."

Questions for cuckcouple and brokenbrilliance

What is your definition of 'preaching'. As subtle as it is, how is this not preaching. Allow me the puns to say this type of preaching comes in from the rear. It's subtle, pretending not to preach.

What is funny is that your comment is also preaching about others preaching.

My issue here isn't with people having spiritual or religious beliefs but the hypocrisy of some who feign it. OP posted this so that he feels better about Ramadan as he's got some of god's words out there to us who might otherwise not have known. It helps him to shake off a bit of the guilt he feels for being on here - where he's doing nothing wrong in my opinion, except the preachify. It is preaching on many levels, all of them subtle. At the very least is reminds us one more time of his religion. Repetition, being reminded, is how it is spread and indoctrinated.

This is clearly preaching below!

Yes quite true!! Lmao

So by implication you pick and choose your level of muslimness (if that's even a word?). Sex outside of marriage is haram. You totally ignore that....but you follow Ramadan? That would be like a Christian choosing to keep six of the Ten Commandments but saying "fuck it" to the other four....but still hypocritically claiming to be devout. I'm failing (as a non-believer) to follow your logic.

The post quoted above is spot on and bizarrely, that's the bit that many Muslims I come across don't seem to get.

They seem to be fasting because it is expected of them but totally ignore the bit where you're meant to have a spiritual reflection and refocus your life to what it really means to be a good Muslim.

During last year's Ramadan, I was expecting an important phone call which came through whilst I was driving. I quickly parked the car on the side of the road but in my hurry left it too close to the car in front of me that was already parked.

The owner of the other car, came out of his house, got into the car, found he couldn't pull out, and sat there waiting for me to move my car to give him room.

Being engrossed in my phone call, I didn't notice all this and after a while, the driver got out if his car, walked up to my window and said "Are you fucking thick or something you fool. You stupidly park your car that close to mine and sit there like an idiot when you see I can't get out"

I looked up, saw he was muslim and simply said "Seeing as you're fasting and meant to be keeping yourself holy and resisting all temptation, wouldn't you say you've woefully failed this test that Allah has presented you with and you might as well just go and eat"

He then looked at me as though I'd just spoken Greek, and walked back to his car without saying another word.

I see similar behaviour amongst Muslim friends and work colleagues regularly.

They see fasting as an end in itself, rather than a vehicle to help them achieve the true purpose of Ramadan.

Here's some logic that might offend. Anyone can feel free to reply. The only thing is that we are on the same side here so don't take this the wrong way.

The issue isn't Ramadan or any religion for that matter.

It's the minds of those people who are conflicted. Tell me this - and it is genuinely no judgement on OP - when bombs go off, is it usually the ones who went out whoring and drinking and drugs and then repented for it? Or was it the ones who were genuinely devoted to their religion and tried to get along in the world? Think you'll find it has been the boys who broke from their religion and then dived back in head first.

Anyway, this site is about shagging. Writing all this isn't going to get me laid. In the words of the Dragon's Den, I'm out or I'll never get laid.

Surely everyone that is religious has a level of faith they adhere to. As a Muslim friend of mine says, 'what Allah doesn't see, doesn't count'.

I have friends of all faiths, what we choose to adhere to and follow is a personal choice.

I'll also being going to mass in a few hours. I believe religion is about trying to live a better way, be a better person but I don't believe you have to follow the doctorine to the letter, times change.

Religion is a personal thing.

Agreed

I agree with this too, it's a very personal thing.

Ramadan Mubarak

2 years ago we were in a predominantly Muslim country during Ramadan. Fast was broken around 7.30pm and sunrise about 12 hours later. That makes for not a bad stretch.

Here in Edinburgh sunset isn't until gone 10pm and it's light again around 4. I suppose that the concept of fasting during daylight hours came around before Islam spread out of more equatorial areas.

"It seems to me there's only a few people preaching on this thread and it's not the OP.

It seems to me there's only a few people preaching on this thread and it's not the OP.

"

My definition of preaching is someone who says this is the right way and that is the wrong...

The OP has shared something that is important to him and has responded to replies with dignity and without judgement.

Good luck to him.

But then I've probably succumbed to the insidious indoctrination you so valiantly point out

Just because someone attempts to indoctrinate you doesn't necessarily mean you are indoctrinated by it. The attempt, however, still stands. The initial quote by OP was an attempt to let us know how great Islam is. Maybe it was done subconsciously but it was still an attempt, no matter how subtle.

Anyway, I'm off on holiday. Hopefully I'll get laid, but I can't tell them I posted on this thread...

What do Muslims look like?

Duno you guys tell me lol and BTW I am a muslim

Yeh just calling bs on the fact that you can tell if a person is Muslim on sight. lol"

If you stretch your imagination a tiny bit further, you might perhaps consider that it was possible that his appearance gave me the clues I needed.

If you're in a part of Birmingham called Small Heath, hear a bloke speak, can see he's of Asian origin, he's wearing a full face beard, as well as a Topi (prayer cap), and a white body length gown.., and finally see him holding prayer beads..., you might conclude that the guy is more likely to be Muslim than a Lay Preacher in the C of E.

Just maybe.. .

So all religions have the same concept of god that 'he is a man in the sky' right? Okayyyy then"

actually most religions are based off sun god/worship Just like Christianity.I'm a athiest but I don't consider myself much different than a musilim or Christian as they believe In one god out of the estimated 6000 God's.I just disbelieve in one more than they do..... .

The apparent links between christianity and eygptian mythology is a widely discredited view, about as valid as most other conspiracy theories. The male gods or the female ones which no one prays to any more? You're right. 2.5 billion people can't be wrong. Christianity must be right. And 2 billion Muslims can't be wrong either. They're also right. Scientologists are less right. Maybe their god is smaller like Terry Pratchett's Small Gods? The three main Abrahamic religions are derived from the Egyptian religions. Just look at the similarities.

"But Ramadan is much more than just not eating and drinking: it is a time to purify the soul, refocus attention on God and practice self-discipline and sacrifice.

So all religions have the same concept of god that 'he is a man in the sky' right? Okayyyy thenactually most religions are based off sun god/worship Just like Christianity.I'm a athiest but I don't consider myself much different than a musilim or Christian as they believe In one god out of the estimated 6000 God's.I just disbelieve in one more than they do..... .

The apparent links between christianity and eygptian mythology is a widely discredited view, about as valid as most other conspiracy theories. Fab is a haven for conspiracy theorists though as a quick forum search will show you. Believe what you like but presenting such tosh as fact is embarassing. not beleving in religeon makes me a conspiracy theorist haha heard it all now.I simply pointed out that all religions borrow from previous religions that is not a fact and I didint say it was but there is clear evidence of it and is far more credible than any evidence of god lol.and where did I metion Eygpt i was talking about religeon as a whole but yea all religeon is bullshit and was the cause off 800 years of science being suppressed so yea fuck religion.

I am very non religious and definitely in the non believer camp.

However if people do believe it is their choice.

I wouldn't want to force my views on them or vice versa.

Faith I feel is a different thing entirely.

Faith in one's self, faith in family and friends and love.

Faith in my humble opinion comes from the heart.

It's not about believing in the great God almighty I believe it's believing in what we do and can achieve if we have faith in ourselves.

If this makes sense?

"I looked up, saw he was muslim

What do Muslims look like?

Duno you guys tell me lol and BTW I am a muslim

Yeh just calling bs on the fact that you can tell if a person is Muslim on sight. lol

Just maybe.. . "

Depends what science book. I can't see a manual for an Amstrad computer or an investigation into gravitational waves helping much

After generations of no education you may find they get more inspiration from a pretty picture of some guy walking on water than a graph detailing differences in acoustic properties of a selection of materials. The former might inspire them to try building a boat whilst the latter would probably help start a decent fire

There are no pictures in the old testament And that's a good thing. No one would think it's ok to own a human being as a slave from looking at a graph.

I'm not religious in the slightest, but I don't see why people are so aggressive to those who are.

People use religions for different reasons, it can give a lost soul a purpose. Yes, some vary in their level of devotion, but is that honestly a reason to judge or start on them?

For a site that is supposed to have opened mined people on it, I'm amazed at what I've seen. OP wanted to send a message about Ramadan and that's fine. Same goes for someone starting a thread about Hanukkah, Diwali or Christmas/Easter. If they want to post a message on the forum so be it.

Just embrace the fact that we all are allowed to have our different views and move on ffs.

Anyway, good luck with Ramadan OP. I did it a couple of times when I was younger. Summer was always the hardest.

P.S. Muslim father and Catholic mother

Neither do a lot of political views and common sense. If you put a lot of the far-left views of the average athiest under the microscope you'd see that most of them think the economy is funded by the tooth fairy and there's always more money growing from the money tree.

Clever enough to understand all humans hold some contradictory beliefs at the same time. Unlike people who think cognitive dissonance is the exclusive trait of religious people and everyone else is perfectly consistent in all their ideas. Also clever enough to know how undesirable perfect consistency is (i.e. it's an extreme position).
