Advice from the guys needed!

I'm thinking about having a vasectomy. I've got children, most are now adults, and really don't want any more. I'd really appreciate any advise from guys who've had the snip. I've been told by a female doctor that it's painless, takes two minutes and it doesn't put you out of action. I'm quite happy with all I've been blessed with but the thought of anything surgical near my crown jewells really makes me wince! So guys, if you've had it done, what's it like? Not really sure I trust a female telling me it's painless etc lol! How would she know? |

"I was chatting to the dr doing it and said how long will this take? He said "I'm done, pull your trousers up"
Honestly don't feel it. But uncomfortable for a day after but that's it"
Thanks really appreciate your reply |

Go for it .. two injections ..one in each side ..bit of a sting , then you have numb nuts... doesn't take long, stitches in, the nurse sprayed an iodine cover on the area to stop any possible infection( felt like aftershave on a,freshly shaved faced.. a slight stinging sensation)...pants on then home, took two paracetamol and didn't have any pain at all ! |

For me it was excruciating, I was the last guy of the day.
The injections were the painful part of the operation. I had two chunks of tube removed so I could never have it reversed, this caused extra bruising. The stitches didn't completey dissolve so I ended up pulling them out myself.
I was laid up for a week, but I am a rare case. Most people are back at work the same or next day. |

I've not had it done myself but I have considered it..... however.... some of my friends who have it done have noticed negative changes with themselves. Also, subconsciously woman do not like it as it makes you less desirable as a mate. I think not getting it done forces the issues of safer sex like wearing a condom. Pro's and con's OP, weigh the up and see what suits you |

Ouch! Your experience is the sort that would really put me off! Then again, I don't think I'd request "chunks" of tube to be removed |

What type of negative changes? And with regards to safer sex issues, snip or not, I'd always play safe with partners I'm not familiar with |

Any evidence the "negative changes" are actually anything to do with the snip? No? I thought not.
You have a brain, you make the decision to wear a condom or not. Not your vasectomy.
"Subconciously women don't like it" LOL
as with any procedure there are risks. But these are minuscule in the grand scheme (a lot kess than crossing the road)...
It's quick, effective, and virtually painless. Unless you manage to get an infection like I did! But anti-biotics soon sorted that out... |

I had it done 15 years ago, 2 injections either side, then felt nothing other than a bit of pulling, didn't even have stitches in, do exactly what the doc says after & you'll be fine, I took one day off work & just relaxed, no bruising or pain. |

It's different for everyone, I was out of action for 3 days and had pain for 6 months, I couldn't have sex from behind it was too painful my balls banging up against the woman.
Mine was 15 years ago so it might be different now but I had a general and they didn't tell me you have a pain killing suppository just before you get knocked out??? ?? |

I had it done, the procedure itself was painless and not very long. If my ball sack wasn't supported for the next couple of days it was tender but after a 2 days that wore off.
The worst bit is providing the samples so you get your 3 months on the trot seedless to get your Jaffa certificate. You have to provide the sample and post it the same day but the bastard tubes don't fit in the postbox so you have to go into the post office, the smirk I got when she asked what it was and I said "medical sample", sent the ex the next two times haha |

Like I said, I was a rare case.
I did notice that after having the snip, my ability too hit the headboard no longer existed, if I reach a woman's belly button I'm punching the air shouting "YES"! |

I had mine done about 8 years ago as my wife has medical problems with all her contraceptives and we were both buggers for forgetting condoms. After a termination the doctor suggested i get done.
I was done under general anesthesia and was back to work on day two, as a mechanic. A little discomfort and a bit slower? to move but fine really.
Now i can feel the knots if i look for them and i have two tiny scars that also need to be looked for.
About the female aspect, don't tell them you have had the Snip, they suspect you are insinuating you want bareback and makes them run a mile lol
All in all, a good experience. |

Piece of cake mate, the more you think about it, the worse it seems, honestly. Try to get a Friday appointment, so you can (excuse the pun) milk the situation ie, lounge around all weekend on the sofa watching whatever you want on the tv, your every wish looked after (throw in the occasional groan and slow, painful-looking physical movements), basically try to redress the balance of months of pregnancy you had to endure in previous times......... |

Bollocks. To coin a phrase.
A friend was told he should have lots and lots of sex for the month after his vasectomy. Not sure if he made that up... |

No worse than a trip to the dentist in my experience. Had it done a few years ago. Referred by my GP, had an examination a few weeks later at the clinic, which was actually more painful than the procedure itself.
On the day, it was baby clinic, apparently they do this to either convinced you you want to go through with it or make you change your mind. Had a valium from the nurse and went upstairs to wait for about twenty minutes. By which time I thought I was a stand up comedian.
Went in, stripped off, chatted up the nurse while the doctor did his thing. Did get a slight discomfort at one point and the doc topped up the anaesthetic.
I got up and got dressed, the gown falling in the floor as I got up but the drugs worked well.
Then jumped on the bus home, laughing and giggling.
The worst part was taking a shower a few days later. The first time my bits had been left hanging on there own.
My advice is keep your pants on or take a bath, it felt like I had weights hanging on them.
I occasionally get a mild kick in the nuts sensation, especially if I've not had a bit in a while, but it's not major and not often.
Well worth it just for the drugs! |

That's kind of true, protected sex yes. It helps clear the pipes out so when it comes to testing to see if it was a success there's no chance of any live ones still lurking around.
I was told to masturbate, or have lots of protected sex until getting the all clear. |

"If you don't have kids then they might not even allow you the op in the first place."
If you're considered young, or do not have any kids you might have to attend a psychological assessment.
I had my snip done at 28. I had to have a psych assessment due to my age. However I more than convinced them I had thought this through |

Don't forget you need to use alternative precautions though as there are still tadpoles in the system until you get the all clear. |

I can imagine he was. I think I just wanked a lot iirc. I didn't want to use a condom with someone I had been with 17 years, nor did I want to risk another baby |

Had it done.
Went for the no needle option, but that didn't work as I could still feel the surgery. So asked for a local aesthetic instead.
Did the trick, could still feel the pulling and tugging but no pain.
I was in discomfort but able for a few weeks.
No issues since.
My tip, take the drugs, follow the advice to rest up. There are no prizes for running and jumping the next day, just more chance of prolonged recovery. |

I did, I was with my partner 12 years at that point not 17. That's how long we were together total. |

Thanks again everyone for your input. I'm definitely leaning more towards having it done than not, although the needles and tugging my tubes does sound a bit scary lol!
And to whoever was asking, in my head I'm still 18 but in reality in my 40s! I have a coupe of grown up kids and one approaching puberty so I really don't want any more... they're too bloody expensive! iPad this, iPhone that lol
Also my reasons for doing this has nothing to do with wanting to bareback strangers - I value my health! But condoms do fail occasionally and I wouldn't want an unplanned surprise!
Thanks again - you've all been Fab! |

I've had the snip mate
It was a quick easy process 15 minutes in total!
The only thing I found is that it can affect your head a bit.
Only lasts for a while though I found.

Huh? Women don't like it because it makes you men less desirable? Lol do you seriously believe that? For me that's nonsense. I'd love it if I found a guy to settle down with and he's had the snip done. Not every woman wants a tribe or kids. I've personally had enough lol. Would be a relief!
My dad, uncle's and brother in law have had it done. All had no issues and we're back to work in no time. All are very happy they went through with it.
Good luck Op. I'm sure everything will go well. |
