Lots of reasons, mainly psychological than physical.
Physically, I like the sensation, I like the tingle. I did it in a dark room once with my face in a pillow which heightens all the sensations, my intakes of breath, the sharp impact, my hot skin against his palm.
Also, if I do that with someone, it means I feel very comfortable with them, so it tends to relax me a lot, so much I've almost fallen asleep before.
