I thought it was an interesting discussion in the 'Discrimination towards bi' thread.

Is preference really ever discrimination when related to who we will/ won't have sex with?

Am I ok to turn down someone that had 2 bareback gangbangs this week, but not ok to turn down a bi man?

most people who feel discriminated against start these topics coz they can't get laid, but they tend to have a point as well because preference can be discrimination if they rule out any type of *whoever*.

i like men, don't really have any discrimination against any apart from looks, age, approach to me, location, if they make me feel safe, if their pics are up to date, if they're genuinely single, if they're fun, dick too small, if they lie to me, what they're after, probably other stuff i cant think of as well.

but just coz i'm not discriminating against any type men doesn't mean i'm indiscriminate.

I think it can be discrimination when the no xxxx has no logic . For example I find no bi men a weird one . What difference does it make whether the person they slept with before you was a man or a woman ?

It's been discussed many times but the whole bi men thing is usually down to a perceived additional risk and/or wanting sex with a heterosexual person. Both I see as perfectly acceptable choices.

If it's not bi men it's "no asians" - its choice, and I do get it. If you've had xxx amount of bad experiences with a certain demographic why bother "risking" any more? That's not saying all bi men or white men, or Asians, or whoever is bad, it's just - why risk it?

I don't find it appealing at all and it would always be there in my head. I know, because it's happened to me. So, I try to avoid a situation where a guy is bi. Obviously, not all guys are honest and I may have had sex with a bi guy, but I didn't do it knowingly. Just the way I am and that's my prerogative.

Now you see, I don't meet bi men, but not for the reasons you may think.

In (my) experience bi men don't hesitate or feel uncomfortable with things I tell them to do. I know some bi men are only orally bi, but I've never met one. I like the look, hesitation, blushing displayed by straight men opposed to the excitement of bi men in the positions I put them in.

I daresay some will have issues, but we play with who we feel sexually comfortable with.

Same logic as used by people who only play safe but avoid those who will go bareback even if they offer to wear a full haz mat suit on a meet.

Preferences can be based on anything. Discrimination, fear, genuine safety concerns, misconceptions.

Beyond making observations about those "preferences" one has absolutely no right to sit there whining about why another individual has made a decision about his/her body and how they choose to sexually express themselves.

Its even more asinine when these same bi men march into the forum to cry about the fact that some couple rejected them.

As I said before and will say again...much of the chagrin shown by many in regard to preference really involves the fact that the complainant is fucking unattractive and takes any and all rejection personally. Any better adjusted individual would realize that human beings are complex and nuanced and may not want to date/fuck you for any number of reasons. If one was more adept that marketing themselves the best they could to the opposite sex they would not be so caught up in the preferences of people they cannot change.

As we explained on the other thread tests have shown Bi or Gay men who engage in anal sex have a higher incidence of STIs than straight men or women who engage in anal sex.

Some decide that risk is too much for them and will not meet Bi men as a result.

Hey all

I posted the original forum post questioning the potentially hypocritical attitudes towards bi guys on a swinging site that fundamentally champions an open minded attitude to sex generally. I brought it up to ask a question and promote a discussion more than anything.

In answer to some of the comments on the original thread.

"He's only saying that in complaint that nobody wants to meet him." I've met an continue to meet great couples and ladies through fab but more in clubs to be honest.

"He's saying that if I don't meet bi guys it's ignoring my right to a preference." Not at all, I was just questioning a broad generalisation when people don't meet bi or bi-curious guys full stop. If you don't take the individual into account and just look in broad brush strokes, then isn't that clubbing everyone into one group. Ergo if that's the case, is that a definition of discrimination?

"Bi and bi-curious guys carry more of a risk" I'm not sure how anyone can quantify that. I see plenty of straight couples advertising for bareback meets, isn't that more risky? How can anyone say that all bi or bi-curious guys have anal? I'd say there's more straight anal than bi anal in my experience.

Anywho, the original question was just that, a question. On one hand I think it's great that so many people put their points forward but also slightly sad that some opinions erred towards a very 1970s attitude when fab is all about having fun!

But I don't think you understand the meaning of hypocritical. You bandy it about in ways that make no sense in the context of this conversation.

Personal sexual preference is not discrimination. That's what message filters are there for as an example. Like I said in the other thread some want to have their cake and eat it. There are enough members on Fab to make it possible to meet those that share your sexual preferences etc. If you can't get a meet look in the mirror before calling out victim

Yeah I found it unfortunate very few appeared to join in engaging with the question, often accused Bi men of just wanting to shag forbidden fruit. Rather than explain their reasons. I do understand that at times people can't see how others think and are confused by them not having the same logic as they. I asked some questions and think In the end got a better appreciation of a couple of people point of view than I did from their first posts in the thread.

One issue is that in the form of text is people can't hear tone; empathy; and curiosity clearly. And at times people couldn't understand how some people felt the way they did the same as if it was an actual verbal conversation.

If I can't "discriminate" when choosing someone to have sex with when can I? It really does have no impact on anyone else except me. So why on earth anyone cares how anyone else chooses who to have sex with is beyond me.

It seems to me that people end up with skewed expectations on sites such as this. They expect that more people will want to have sex with them and when they don't they lash out at others for their preferences. I wonder if the same people wander through everyday life assuming that everyone they meet wants to have sex with them and then accusing them of discrimination when they don't? Some really do end up with odd attitudes on here.

Personally I tend not to base my sexual partner selection on logic. It's more instinct and attraction and there's nothing logical about!

Haven't read the whole thread so if this is has already been said I'll apologise. The on-line Oxford Dictionary the following as a definition of descrimination:

'The unjust or prejudicial treatment of different categories of people, especially on the grounds of race, age, or sex.'

So probably choosing not to sleep with someone based on their sexuality would not be described as unjust treatment. Not giving them a job would be unjust treatment. Is it being preduduced though. So I looked up the definition of predudice:

'Preconceived opinion that is not based on reason or actual experience.' Or 'Dislike, hostility, or unjust behaviour deriving from preconceived and unfounded opinions.'

I suspect there are some people who refuse to sleep with bisexual men due to a preconceived opinion that is not based on reason or actual experience.

Some people say they won't sleep with bisexual men because they find the thought of 2 men together distasteful. It's a logical reason I guess, but by that logic, they would also avoid sleeping with people who have undertaken any sexual act they find distasteful, whether it be bisexual or otherwise.

People are entitled to have sex with who they want to have sex and if our choices are based on predudice or discrimination then that can't be helped. We are only human. But to wrap everything up under the constantly incorrectly used word of 'preference' as though that is supposed to explain everything, is crazy. The Oxford Dictionary describes 'preference' as meaning:

'a greater liking for one alternative over another or others.'

The word 'preference' does NOT mean that one alternative is excluded from being an option, as seams to be with Fab definition of the word. For example if I were to have a preference for apples over pears it means I like apples more. It does not mean I dislike pears or will never eat them. So when people are excluding certain groups from their choice of sexual partner, that is indeed their choice and their right. But to call it a preference is an inaccurate use of the word.

Discrimination is a tough one to label and is slowly becoming one of those PC buzz words thrown around.

I prefer polish builders because 80% of them do 50% more work than an average English builder, unfortunately for the 20% of hard working English builders that's my preference based entirely on past experience.

Same thing (to a degree?) with swinging I guess? Past experience/word of mouth/general stereotypes run rampant and ruin the rep for "the good ones"

I think the line between preference and prejudice is so blurred on this issue, you'll never untangle it.

These threads only continue because one side is so quick to make accusations of homophobia and the other is just as quick to deny it and call it just "preference" or "personal choice". Ironically if someone put on their profile "I/we won't meet bi guys cos I/we think they're all sick, abnormal and hellbound", people would just block and move on and the two groups wouldn't ever interact.

It's a bit semantic but there's a bit of incorrect use of the word discrimination going on here. Discrimination in itself is not necessarily a bad thing. You might have discriminating tastes when it comes to food for example. If you give a job as an open heart surgeon to someone who has trained as a doctor rather than a sixteen year old with one gcse you are discriminating against the latter.

What lots of people find objectionable is irrational discrimination. So if you refuse a fully qualified person a job purely on the grounds of their race or gender that would be irrational discrimination. . Saying you just have a preference for men or white people would not get you very far even if it were true.

Sex is rather different in that irrational physical attraction is a big part of it. We all discriminate in that sense when it comes to sex. What I find difficult to understand is where it goes beyond the physical. Thus if a guy is bi but ticks all the physical boxes what's the problem if he is playing straight. It's obviously anyone's prerogative to have sex or not have sex with whoever they like. But then it's also my prerogative to refuse to have a drink with, say, people I know to be gay. I don't think anyone would doubt I was prejudiced though if I said that.

A woman stating no bi men is an odd one but I do understand it from a couples perspective.

My discrimination lies with height. I am heightist and open about it.

The reason being is that I feel extremely uncomfortable and unsexy if I am taller than the man I am with. As I always wear heels.. I stick to 6' as standard.

This doesn't mean I think short men are inferior as the problem lies with me and not them

"I think it can be discrimination when the no xxxx has no logic . For example I find no bi men a weird one . What difference does it make whether the person they slept with before you was a man or a woman ?"

Some women adore bi men as it's another possibility for her of a free for all with many chaps, plus there's a common school of thought that bi men are more more liberated and have less possible hang ups.

However some women go the other way. They see men as being attractive as men and one of the major things that screams manly to them is his desire to penetrate women, not other men or often even less manly in their eyes, his desire to take cock. Plus a few get hung up on the whole "don't know where he's been" malarky, though whilst the first is a valid reason the second isn't as many straight blokes have had anal sex with a woman before.

As for couples, the "no bi men" rule can be brought about by the woman for the reasons above or by the male of the couple, who feels uncomfortable having sexual relations upon his lady with a chap who may also find him arousing.

"It is called preferences lol"

It's confusing though because the definition of 'preference' on Fab is somewhat different than the dictionary definition of 'preference'. The latter meaning liking one alternative more than the other but not disliking or discounting either, that former meaning that something is completely excluded from consideration. To totally exclude something from consideration is well within everybody rights, but it is an incorrect use of the word to describe it as a preference.

The Fab definition should be added to the glossary of Fab terminology

Choice would be a better word. That choice may be based on many things.

"It's a bit semantic but there's a bit of incorrect use of the word discrimination going on here.

This is a bit like chatting up someone at the school disco but from the talk here and your profile we think we would get on. Hence we tried to send you a message but can't as we are not site supporters.

Despite this, if you like the look of us we'd welcome a message
