Why do people wink?

We've had a spate of people winking at us and when we send a message back thanking them they don't reply.

Can't quite see the point at that. It's not as if we use an offensive font in our messages lol.

Just to gauge interest for some folk, if they wink you first I would of thought they would reply, maybe a change of heart for them

some people wink to acknowledge a good profile or nice pics, and it has been known to send a wink by mistake, especially if they're on a laptop

We can definately understand the mistake element, even worse on a smartphone. It's not just the odd one though. Happens a lot.

Our theory is that some people just wink at everybody and choose who they message from the winks that come back.

I winked by mistake at someone once, whilst on my phone. We met up and WOW and I glad!

I've sent a few myself by mistake, I never check where the cursor is going when I'm looking at profiles. I've sent winks, friends invites and have blocked people by mistake...... but, when I do I always send a message to say "sorry" for the error, and leave it to them to take the next step

Have to admit to sending a friend invite by mistake and worried it made us look like picture collectors.

I'm a bit of hypocrite when it comes to winks as I generally ignore them but do very occasionally send one myself.

What I really hate is friend requests with no prior messaging - that's just rude and I still get loads despite my profile saying that I'll ignore them and block offenders. It's quite obvious these people just want to look at your private pics before deciding whether you're worth messaging or not and I find that offensive.

Strangely enough if you get a friends request and send a message saying you need to chat first, you also get no reply. -Picture collector alert -

have to admit i wink at folk on occasion. mainly to gauge interest . sometimes i can be a bit shy on the message front other times not. sometimes people aknowledge them most ignore and thats fine not complaining by any means about it , i think its a good feature of the site . so in essence im a complete winker

We wink at people when we cant be bothered to write as a message as they have no pics or no veri's and have been on here for months but they sound ok

we get that too!!! send a wink, we send a message, they send a friend request, we send another message and delete the request, they delete messages.

What is the point in winking if you cant be arsed to even chat or have no intention to meet or take it further??????

So glad it's not just us that do this! We've sent out so many random friend requests by accident this way, and because we have a bit of a thing about people sending friend invites when you haven't even chatted we feel obliged to send a message with an apology. Worked in our favour once though..

To save some time and effort, it can be better to replay to a wink with another wink. This put's the ball in thier court, forcing them to message you, or move on.

Have started doing this recently - seems to work well.

What a bout this concept:

A couple sometimes access their profile separately. The male of the couple sends winks out willy nilly mainly because there's a pair of tits in the avatar. Or there are sexy pics and he's excited as he's looking and he thinks ooo yeah ill have a bit of that and presses the send a wink button.

If the others reply with a message he's usually sent winks to various folks and is now bored of perving profiles as he's in work mode again. Then his partner might log on, look at the messages and think they are not suitable or they don't float her boat so it goes no further.

Does the party of the first part agree to party with the party of the second part, and will a third party be joining the party?

If someone winks at us we either ignore or wink back. After that ball is in their court as we forget all about it so don't really get any of that stuff happening. Confusing isn't it?

clearly states on my profile i dont travel half way round the country -

only within 1 hour radius;

people really need to start reading profiles properly
