Wherever the party is! |
While I enjoy using the forums and having great fun there, I think this is a place that may not encourage people to stay here. I believe this is a bad thing.
I've been using and moderating online message boards of some sort for over twenty years and I'd like to think that I've grown a thick skin when it comes to mean stuff that people say from behind a screen. I'm also mature enough to know that others don't have the same life skills, experiences and awareness that I do.
I'd really love to see a period where users try to communicate as if there's a real living person on the other side of the screen. If a poster is new, maybe offer some genuine help and advice. If they repeat stuff, direct them to the relevant discussion thread. If they say something out of order then have a mature debate about the subject.
I don't think there are any simple solutions but my gut tells me that having people leave due to a negative experience in the forum just...can't be ok...can it? |

I would say for many the forum is almost a last resort before leaving anyway. In the none months or do we've been here many has been the thread where the OP has had sensible advise as well as a little bit of stick.
Trouble is they come on when they are felling negative due to no luck here.
9/10 times they go Unlos without taking the advise probably because like many they think this site is easier than going to a pub/club & picking someone up & it very much isn't..This is particularly true of the one cock photo, two lines of profile brigade.

You'll always get those that advise same as you'll always get those that'll rip you a new one. I think if you don't have a thick skin on here you need a big overcoat pretty damn fast. Not that it's right but that's how it is.
Its the internet after all

That's cool. But even though it's technically none of mine, I'm also interested in this from the business point of view. Would this become a "real" issue after (x) people leave the site? Or does it depend not so much on how many leave but who leaves? |

The forum is only a small part of Fab. If you go on the chat rooms around 10pm you'll see the directing rooms will be full. There will be over 1,000 people across all the rooms.
I'd guess that there are no more than 500, at a generous push, that use the forums and maybe 100-150 that use it regularly. In the grand scheme of things the forum isn't that big a deal. |

There are far too many people on these forums that think it's ok to act negatively wether it's the odd hurtful banter to some quite abusive texts - and then they justify it by can't I have an opinion or in the name of debate, why do people think it's ok to act like this behind a screen?
This can't be good can it!
If you don't have anything nice or good to say then don't say it! |

The problem we have with the forums (as stated by op) are that generally speaking people will act vastly different behind a computer screen than they would irl, problem is though it's not really something you can mod as some people don't?
We take the piss out of everyone and everything, ourselves included more than most, unfortunately something we said just the other week afforded us a 24 hour ban (and it was pretty tame to be perfectly honest)
There becomes a very fine line between censoring abusibe and downright mean to censoring people personalities.
I think as a rule with posting on any forum you've gotta have a pretty thick skin and if you don't someone is going to ruin your day with simple words. |

I agree OP but it won't change. It's current society. Facebookers shock me more than the Fab forumites. It's pretty tame on here.
The ones that take the piss out of newbies just show themselves up all the time. Funny how they are always the ones that claim to be friendly though. |

"I think some use the forums specifically to argue or wind people up,i try to avoid them or those types of threads .
The forums can be a good filter I think ,good and bad .
Miss" I agree. I have gotten to know some great people through just chatting on the forums. |
