Growing old gracefully

At 52, I'm always dying my hair, to cover the grey......but I was looking in the mirror earlier, and my grey roots are showing.
I'm so tempted to let it grow, just to see what it looks like! I have naturally dark hair, so it's a salt and pepper effect.
Any ladies here, that have stopped dying their hair, and let the natural process of age take over??? |

A friend hairdresser, advises people to let it grow out a bit, then dye it a lighter shade than your pre- grey hair in order for the roots to show less. I know that doesn't really answer your question but it's all I've got. |

for me yes because I still feel young and I don't see grey hair as a symbol of being young. I may feel differently when I'm in my 50s. Xxx

not exactly the same i know but i started loosing hair in my twenties...just go with it. i used to have lovely locks and was gutted when it started going but now i love my skinned bonce, suits me so much more, you might come to like your new look. if not, slap some dye through it again  |

I planned to grow old gracefully and allow the distinguished (or so I thought) salt and pepper take over.
However, I've had a few negative comments about how grey I actually look. (And a google image search of my last selfie, said "best guess: senior citizen" ffs 
Might end up bowing to opinion and having it darkened back to my normal shade. |

If I thought mine would be properly white or grey then I would leave it but being a blonde I know it won't be, even when it starts coming through so...fuck it! I am blue for the unforseeable future   |

Very true, it's just gonna look very odd for a while, as I dye my hair black, so gonna be a strange contrast for a while lol. But I really want to, just to see. |

I'm thoroughly disgraceful.
Dyed mine bright blue last night. Usually dark brown with highlights mixed in with the grey so it's a bit full on.
Everybody's loving it so far...except for one old lady on the bus who told me that it obviously wasn't my natural colour (no shit batman) and that she had a parrot the same colour as my hair many years ago |

I have very dark hair but the grey has set in so i use Henna on it now, the colour lasts much longer, is kinder to the hair and the grey bits look like highlights rather than a block of colour.
I plan on having long grey hair when i'm older, i'm just not ready to embrace the grey just yet. |

At a family dinner in a restaurant one evening I casually mentioned I was fed up with dying my hair, and said I was going to let it grow out and embrace the grey.
My sisters and sister in law all looked at me and went "Oh no you're not!", in unison.
So, I scrapped the idea, as a bad one. |

I remember when my nana stopped dying her hair at about 60.
She was suddenly a different person to the one I'd known all my life. It was an odd moment.

She simply looked physically different. Always had red hair, suddenly it was grey. Quite shocked me the first time I saw her.
It also, obviously, made her look older. |

Only go to grey if you're happy with it - try a wig or an app. I'm not wanting to go grey yet so carry on dying my hair - one of my vanilla friends went to grey and she looks good but not for me. Let us know what you do. You girls look a ball whatever colour hair x |

Yea I'm thinking of trying one of those apps, but I reckon I will chicken out soon, the black dye is sitting on my bathroom shelf, shouting at me, and I know my mom, who is 84, and still dyes her hair, would go mad.
But I'm still tempted. It's just the growing out stage. Ffs. |

My hair is completely grey if I don't dye it. I,'ve gone from black to brown to auburn and now took the dye out and its like a straw colour. Won't stop dying it ever, I will poke my son with my walking stick and make him do it for me when I get too feeble to do it myself |

What about one of the Colour remover treatments? And then a colour that won't show your roots.
If you happen to have a few days or a week that you have to leave your hair, in between treatments, some nice scarves or hats can help you through that.
Y never know you might actually like that in between stage. |

Wiggles got fed up of dying her hair to cover grey, so dyed it all grey..my hat was a lot of effort, so she dyed it all black.
Oddly the black is wearing off and she is now getting a rather nice Sweeny Tod, grey streak.
As to growing old gracefully, she just hit 50 and is definitely going for disgracefully instead |

grow old disgracefully, if you lived in country community like I do , you just have to, to stay sane. Hubby has been grey now white since he was 30 its great, I however spend a lot on money having white highlights put in my hair which looks cool. |

Well I'm blonde so I am fortunate enough not to have to worry about the roots - apparently mine will go white!
But I will be going pink/purple/ginger until I snuff it! Do whatever is best for you. Maybe grow it out and see if you like it. If not you can always start colouring it again. |

Not everyone goes grey ... its taken my mum until she is 88 ... I have a couple of grey hairs, too many to pull out now, but they hardly show. |

My hair is naturally brunette with a few silvery grey hairs which are most obvious in my parting if I don't colour it. My daughter refers to the grey hairs as my fairy lights ..... I can live with that! |
