Personally I feel that true intimacy can't be found by kissing or having sex with someone you've met via the net or in a club unless you know them very well.
As far as your remarks about having sex without kissing being akin to having sex with a prostitute, I don't think you're far wrong. However I would say that even with kissing many elements of swinging are in a similar vein in that its no strings, casual sex with people you don't know well.
