Having been involved es in the forums over recent weeks, I've noticed when some particular subjects are brought up, rhere seems to be a lot of people who seem to get worked up i.e. using capital letters, los of exclamation marks and resort to swearing. To me these people seem to have vent up anger and frustration on themselves. Those are wasted emotions and do nothing but self harm their own minds.
Maybe people need to learn to accept things happen In life, sometimes not always good things, but people need to move forwards in life.
Don't waste yourself on pointless emotions such as anger and jealousy.
Rise above and try to be positive and broad minded. |

Quite agree. I particularly don't like the swearing, but that gets justified as ok because it's an adult sex site. Not sure what swearing to emphasise an opinion has to do with sex, but there you go.

It's easy to become passionate over certain subjects, especially if you've been directly affected. There are still ways to get a point across without being a dick, though... |

I certainly agree, it is sometimes better for us all to accept that things happen that we have no control of and that life is too short stressing over them |

Maybe people just choose to use a myriad of their lexicon not for emphasis and not because it's an adult site but because that's how they would respond if certain things were discussed with friends or other adults?
I dunno.
I think that people do take this site too seriously at times. If it's a subject they are passionate about though, I can sort of see why.

Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum |
If it hits a nerve then I can imagine people might get upset. However I do find it odd people getting worked up about things they can't affect. I find shutting down the web page helps me plenty when that happens. |

life goes on.
It really does, last year I lost 5 family members and a partner in the midst of that loss plus nearly died in hospital... no point sweating the small stuff, life is too short for popping off at people. Where's the joy these days?
We're here for a good time not a long one, to all the angry fella's out there just have a pint and get on with it. As for the ladies, well just have a cheeky glass of wine and put your feet up |

You're entitled to your opinion. That's what the forums are for. I've been noticing for a while that a lot of people are offended at generalised threads not aimed at any particular individual, and I've often wondered if it's just me that that doesn't get bothered by such threads. |

Like I said, not much riles me but the holier than though, omg why can't everyone behave, threads I find annoying.
And that's an opinion I am totally allowed to have. |

The problem is how does one know what others are going to find patronising? It never would have occurred to me that so many threads are considered patronisation to others. So people make mistakes in their choice of threads. |

But it isn't patronising in the slightest. It's meant to be a happy positive thread, you know as in fun, which is after all what this site is meant to be all about |

I see what you were trying to say, OP, but your wording does come across as a little patronising, in my opinion.
You can't really dictate how people should deal with a thread that they find quite personal. Sometimes passion overtakes "rising above".

Maybe just agree to differ on this one. Wasn't meant to be particularly a dig at anyone but the forums seem to go through bouts of negativity and while it's good to be able to voice opinion sometimes the more cheerful things seem to get drowned out. |

How can you tell if people are really worked up or just read as if they are. I have had people tell me to calm down when I am completely calm and enjoying the banter .... I think it's a little presumptuous to assume and says more about those people in that moment and how worked up they are. Not you, OP, just the sanctimonious tone of the person who messaged me told me all I needed to know about them |

If something that some people do bothers someone, should they keep it themselves? Or should they be allowed to initiate a generalised discussion about that behaviour on the forums? If the latter is allowed, how should the OP phrase it so that nobody gets offended and feel that the thread shouldn't have been posted? |

Obviously I think it's best to say something. I don't think the original post was offensive, just patronising.
No one is saying it shouldn't have been posted. |

" I just try to be positive and happy in life, but I get that some people are the opposite. Hey ho, I tried
And now saying that those that don't agree are negative is adding insult.
I'm mega positive and I don't need you questioning my character thanks
Where have I questioned your character ? I've never aimed this personally to anyone whatsoever. You seem to be the one choosing to make this about you.
When you aim it at people in general everyone is included
If something that some people do bothers someone, should they keep it themselves? Or should they be allowed to initiate a generalised discussion about that behaviour on the forums? If the latter is allowed, how should the OP phrase it so that nobody gets offended and feel that the thread shouldn't have been posted? "
Anyone else lost ?? |

To me these people seem to have vent up anger and frustration on themselves. Those are wasted emotions and do nothing but self harm their own minds.

Obviously I think it's best to say something. I don't think the original post was offensive, just patronising.
No one is saying it shouldn't have been posted."
So the question is how to phrase something in a way that people don't find patronising |

Anyone that says anything too offensive or obscene is dealt with by the mods. I don't see it as anyone else's job to say what people should be allowed to feel and what what emotions they should have. It's called being broadminded. |

Not even that, if one starts a post there is always the chance that someone may not like how it comes over.
It's the risk you take. On this occasion those of us who thought it was patronising are way outnumbered by those that don't.
The trick, as an OP, is to see the big picture and not let any replies get to you. |

Sometimes people just want to come on here for a rant. And sometimes they logged on in a good mood, stumbled on the politics forum, and felt the need to lash out on another post.
I think if people start dictating what should and shouldn't be considered the correct way to behave on the forums then this place is going to get very boring, very fast. |

I'd say just post in the style you want too, as long as you're not breaking any rules there is no problem.
I learnt my lesson about posting on threads where the subject was emotive to me, I steer clear of them now.

Agreed
What gives anyone the right to tell others how they should or shouldnt feel and what emotions they should or shouldnt have?
Posts like that give an impressive of superiority and comes across as patronising to others.
Run your life the way you see fit but dont tell others how to run theirs.

So are people who comment on behaviour they don't like being 'superior'? Or are they just commenting on behaviour they don't like. |

"You can just ignore a post you don't really appreciate and let the person writing it be just a little happier. Really is no harm in it
Or you can use the forum to have a discussion about something you don't quite agree with and use the forum as a forum is intended - a place for the exchanging of ideas.
Yup, you can indeed come on here. Be a keyboard warrior and disagree with many when you're bored. Completely agree you can xx
Why are you automatically a keyboard warrior if you disagree with some things? I disagree with judgemental posts - I do the same in real life. I guess I'm a warrior in real life too.

Yeah, its envy that is the destructive emotion. jealousy can be positive, although it is coloured on this site by the reason this site exists. |

I think it's both envy and jealousy. Both can make you more ambitious, both can be destructive. I think it's the circumstances that determine their worthiness. |

Playful-Minx: some of the responses in this thread just serve to prove your original supposition.
We are not their type... and they are not ours... and never the twain shall meet...
Human nature, especially in an arena where people are driven to posture and peacock more than normal, polarises into two distinct sides on here: those who can stand back and appreciate and those who regard any opinion other than their own to be aggressive and challenging.
Negativity is such a wasted emotion and serves no purpose whatsoever.

Personally I think all emotions taken to extremes can be damaging but a little bit of everything in moderation I would say is healthy. |
