"I remember the Roses debut album - The Stone Roses back in '89 and ive pretty much been hooked ever since "
Agreed! Think it's quite normal for Northerners in their 30's and 40's to feel this way

I love both but the Roses edge it mainly because they got me into the whole indie scene.
A few are being unfair on oasis tbh. Most groups have influences and oasis make no secret that they worshipped the Beatles. What's the story has sold more albums than most in the last 20 years or so and I believe they deserve a little more credit. |

Stone roses had one good album, that's all. Oasis, some shite but some brilliant tracks, the best track they ever did being the b side to wonderwall
Neither though a patch on the best group to come out of Manchester, that title imho going to The Smiths |

The Roses probably mean more to me. They kickstarted my love of music back when I was 12 years old. In a way I'll always be eternally grateful for that. Oasis later helped restore my faith in music when they burst on the scene and were very important to me at the time. In a nutshell, they both helped shape the soundtrack of my youth. |

Simple...The Stone Roses(said in a cool manc accent)
What with their mix of rock and a dance vib always will be
As for Oasis, their down fall for me being Liam, sadly taking the talented songwriter Noels limelight, trying to act all cool, just came over as an arrogant ar$ehole |

Roses by a mile. An inovatitave band that changed music. Oasis were more part of a scene than actually revolutionising music. It was simple music and very simple lyrics. I Loved defiantly maybe's amazing rock n roll vibe but looking back it many songs were re-hashed rock tracks. T-Rex Get it on/Cigarettes and alcohal is so blatant it's embarrassing. After Kurt Cobains death they were at the right place at the right time. Still an awesome band, though.
the seahorses is an anagram of he hates roses....if anyone's interested! |

"Slowly walking down the hall, faster than a cannonball" what an absolute load of lyrical Shit. Good band of musicians but couldn't write a song for toffee. (She's got a sister, on the palm of a hand is a blister). FFS... |

Stone roses were a talentless bunch of morons.... So I'd have to say Oasis, although I'm not a fan of his vocals.

I'm in the credits .
I love rhythm in music. Most rock bands lack it. The Roses had it in buckets. Even some of the heavier later stuff had it - listen to Reni's isolated drums on Love Spreads on YouTube.
He is a fantastic drummer and musician. Mani was steeped in northern soul etc. Again, a great musician and pretty underrated. Controversial maybe, but I'd say John Squire is the 3rd best musician in that band and he's a great guitar player.
Noel G is an interesting guy and wrote songs known the world over. The songs feel a bit lumpen and "rocky" for me though.
Oasis's influences seem limited to the Beatles (amazing though they were) and white rock bands. The Roses loved reggae, dance music, gospel, hip-hop etc - a more interesting spread. Listen to their Radio 1 interview from 1995 - that highlights it.
The Roses had/have grooves - maaaannn. |

Never seen either but have seen all the Stone Roses tributes, the Complete Stone Roses, Fools Gold & the Clone Roses, who did an awesome gig at the Shiiine on festival at Butlins recently. Every time we see a tribute people say doesn't the lead singer sing better than Ian Brown!!
Favourite band at the festival by miles was 1000 Yard stare. |

Though having seen both live,
Oasis were awesome,
The roses were fucking awful.
"
I agree, seen Oasis on a few occasions, brilliant.. getting covered in piss is worth it, imo..
Seen stone roses twice, shockingly bad on both.. Brown ain't the singer he once was...
