Just curious,

where did the term "Swinging" originate from?

I'd just assumed it was a reference to going backwards and forwards between two partners but I might be wholly wrong on this.

peak district

Think it originated in California in the 1960s when group-sex communities and parties became socially acceptable. Think the man who wrote "The Joy of Sex" mentions that, he was into those sort of group-sex communities. Up until then it was 'wife swapping' but apparently wasn't really spoken about, but plenty must have gone on underground.

In France it's 'exchangiste' which is more accurate.
