"It's pure laziness but I tend to live with it now unless I can't understand the message at all....which happens quite often."
I'm finding that at the moment it's hard work sometimes |

We are horrible. If the spelling is terrible we tend to avoid the writer. It's a product of our pre-text speak age I guess where grammar and punctuation was beaten into us. |

Here occasionally, but mostly somewhere else |
"Sharp dressed man ... glad to meet another pain in the ass. "
In fairness, I apply a lower expectation to the forums, where we're all typing quickly - similar to a pub where the back and forth of conversation inevitably leads to more casual English than a CV (for example).
However, if one is going to criticise others, one opens oneself up to the full force of the Grammar Police! I tend to save it for when Mr Seeside is getting posts criticised, and let out all my pent up OCD at those individuals |

I'm often criticised for over long sentences and poor sentence construction. I have no idea when to use a colon and semi colon. My knowledge of apostrophe placement is minimal. I was about 35 before I realised it was "thank you" not "thankyou". It's a question of degree really. |

Personally dislike it, but tend to "try" not to be judgmental about it.
But do admit to pondering if by insisting on the "proper" way to spell, are we not suppressing the evolution of language?
I mean, I wonder if, as we evolved from pictograms on cave walls to scrawling letters on stone or slate, people thought the same? |

"My knowledge of apostrophe placement is minimal.
...and I suspect as a result you wouldn't judge others' usage thereof?
"
I try not to, mainly because in some cases I wouldn't know if they were right or not .
I do smile wryly to myself when I pass a green grocer proudly advertising "tomatoe's" |

As long as I can understand the message I don't really care that much. Could be laziness, could be dyslexia, could be a number of things. My pet hate is spelling and grammar Nazis. |

See it doesn't bother me. I only write proper because I have predictive text and it doesn't recognise slang words and text speak. In my era, we all learnt text speak to save on texts as we were charged per text wasn't we lol and then it sticks. Like someone else said, it's habit. I never judge people on the way they message. If we get on, we get on. |

Not particularly arsed about it here, with many reasons for spelling mistakes (small keypads +fat fingers, dyslexia, rushing) I don't really judge. In a fab context, it's not really a big deal.
We're here to meet and shag others, not pass an English exam. |

If it's a message that I struggle to read then yes, it does bother me. I'm not particularly anally retentive about it but in order to find someone attractive I have to like all aspects of said person and think we'll get along. If it's the sort of person who only writes text speak and feels that any other who uses slightly longer words and the correct spelling of them is arrogant? We won't be compatible. |

I found it rather amusing the other day...when another fab user was having a moan about other people's spellings on her status but had spelt it all wrong as well |

"Someone who cant spell probably better at lots of things we're rubbish at enyone want to let us know what thay can't do were all different good thing we are "
Bad punctuation is worse, since without punctuation, strings of words are meaningless; i.e.
"Someone who can't spell [is] probably better at lots of things [that] [we're] rubbish at[.] [A]nyone want to let us know what thay can't do[?] [We're] all different[.] [It is a] good thing we are[.] |
