Blessed or cursed with a big(ish) bust

Jump to: Newest in thread

By (user no longer on site) OP     over a year ago

I am a 38DD. Not massive but quite big.

A lot of people say that I am blessed but I truly believe that I am cursed.

My back is in agony around 90% of the day. I can't find bras that will fit. And when I do they are rather expensive or I grow out of them in a few weeks. I buy a bra and it fits for a few weeks at best even when I wash and dry it by its instructions.

I get massive red marks round my back and across my ribs and my back and ribs are in absolute agony. I can't run without it hurting my chest severely and even a sports bra or two doesn't do much.

I have been fitted for a bra but yet the bloody thing was still too small. I had red marks all over and I couldn't breathe very well!

Any solutions as I've tried the doctors and they just tell me to take pain killers or that there isn't much they can do!

Help I'm in pain!

hiding from cock pics.

I do have a similar past but I'm likely not suffering with it. You can get breast reductions on the NHS if that is something you feel like you would like.

I think there is a waiting list and that it's not very easy but I do know somebody who was going to have one once.

I feel for you. My daughter is the same and she hates them.

The usual solution is to lose weight- but you have to lose quite a lot before you see a difference up top.

If they're out of all proportion to your overall size, then you can get reduction surgery on NHS, but you'd best be prepared to continue to visit your doc and really let them know how badly it affects your life.

Good luck

Still waiting on a nose repair 10 years after it broke. NHS are useless and told me my boobs weren't big enough to be classed as an issue for the NHS to cover a reduction

I'm a 38 J and I'd say I'm both blessed and cursed. They get lots of attention sometimes wanted and unwanted but the bras are very expensive and the backache is unbearable some days.

Have you tried getting fitted in more than one place? I wouldn't have thought you should be experiencing that much discomfort as a 38DD.

Style of bra plays a big part too, I'm a 36F and don't have much bother with back pain or digging in or anything like that, but there are certain styles that are just always uncomfortable because of the shape of my boobs.

I would love to have 38DD boobs, mine are 38JJ

I have had severe back pain for over 20 years and weight loss has helped a bit but not that much. I lost nearly 7 stone, went down from 44 to 38 around the back but lost nothing from my boobs. I always have nasty red marks around my body and on my shoulders purely from the weight of them.

I do love my boobs and the attention they get but they are definitely both a blessing and a curse.

It's not a long term solution but if your partner is willing to learn the massage techniques that ease your back it helps day to day.

hi girls, as a guy that loves big boobs this makes me very sad but i have to agree with chakala, the massage techniques made a massive difference to my ex. oh and heat patches helped too. but you can't resolve the long term issues unless you spend well on proper bras. cheap and wrong fitting will make it worse. good luck xx

If u look at their page online they give ideas and helpful hints and happy to exchange. They don't go on specific size ( although a measure and ish size needed to order) they go on shoulder indents, side boob, back riding up , over cup spill etc. Well worth a look

Currently in between sizes as 33 under bust so an H or hh.

They get attention not always wanted.

Finding clothes to fit nicely is a problem.

They are heavy, sag and get in the way most of the time and also clap when I turn over in bed!

I guess I'm justadirtybird used to them being there now.

I've found Bravissimo's customer service second to none. They replaced, without quibble, a couple of bras I'd had for about 6 weeks after the wires came through. So ... if you followed the self measuring tips on their site but still found the bras you got uncomfortable I'd bet there'd be no problem exchanging them even after they'd been worn a short while.

I do sympathise with the problems you're experiencing and do get some backache now and again though thankfully I've never had it as bad as you. What I do find though is that there's no such thing as a set size, depending on the style of bra and brand. I most often wear 32FF but also have a couple of 30FFs and got a 32E last weekend as the cups came up very large .... that was on the recommendation of a Bravissimo fitter and though I was sceptical she was dead right as it fits perfectly.

i think you're cursed as well.

when i was an F cup i was always banging my boobs on everything, especially door handles. and it was really painful doing that.

i'm around a b/c cup now, mostly c. and no aches from heavy boobs and no banging into things. life is better smaller. don't even bother with a bra either.

don't know what you can do except lose wieght off your boobs somehow? i just lost weight all over but i was obese.

What Ruby says.

You may have been fitted for a bra but like with clothes, bras from different manufacturers and styles come up in different sizes. You know that if you buy a skirt from a certain shop you need to go up or down several sizes. The bra size you were given when fitted should just be seen as a guide, when buying a bra try it on first, pick up different size combinations and see which fits best.

I do wear tests for a bra manufacturer, I try on several when I'm at the factory and they see which is the best fit, I can walk out with a 36JJ in one bra and a 38J in another style.

Yep - CurvyKate and Bravissimo, along with a proper fitting (don't do it yourself) are life changers.

I dont understand why you cant get bras to fit you, most go up to 38e in there standard range and it sounds like you werent measured properly. I was measured at both m&s and debenhams and came out the same size at both.

Although victotia secrets are actually the best fit ever for me in their evetyday bras and even they go up to an e cup or ddd as they call them.

The only problem i have is the fact that my boobs are slightly big in proportion to the rest of me, so dresses with a side zip are a no go in my size as they wont do up

"I dont understand why you cant get bras to fit you, most go up to 38e in there standard range and it sounds like you werent measured properly.

I am a 34e which I think is quite big, however I am 6ft tall and quite stocky in build

so I'm sort of in proportion but I'm a 14/16 on top and a 12/14 hips/arse

"I am a 38DD.

yeah buy a bigger bra, if you are uncomfortable while wearing it and it leave marks on you when you take it off it quite obviously does not fit

You don't have to stick with a 38DD because somebody told you thata what size you are, id go up a back size, maybe two if the straps are rubbing your back

An ex copper would help you with them ??"

I have a copper who helps me with them lol.

Boob or bust calculator. It's very likely you're wearing the wrong size. You look bigger than dd to me. Try the calculator.

And the bit I don't like is that in the summer I would like to wear little vest tops and these SHABANGERS In Front of me look ridiculous no matter how thin I am I never loose anything from that significant place , it's not as good as someone wishes for bigger ones thinks I would gladly swap any day x

Mine had the opposite effect. I lost weight and they got bigger.

They keep getting bigger as well and they don't want to stop growing.

I have similar issues to OP, where I suffer from back pains; sometimes it is too much to handle.

I also hate how expensive bras are

Beyond lodging weight and finding supportive bras there isn't an awful lot you can do. Are you taking any hormones for anything? This might contribute to them growing.

GPs do send off referrals to plastic surgery for reductions when it is an issue. Your problem is likely that you've only seen them once for the issue. Do as they say, give it a month or two and go back. See if there is another gp who can ser you at the practice if one isn't helpful. Bear in mind the waiting list is likely long to have it sorted after a referral. GPs don't want to send people off to specialists as the referral costs the practice quite a lot of money.

The final option is to get it done privately. A reduction is usually not that expensive as the are no implants to cost money

I used to have backache problems but it came down to my posture as much as anything.

You got lots of lovely bra advice, but have you tried something like Pilates or yoga to help?

I found that helped me and my posture massively. Bra or no bra I don't get boob related backache now

Im a 38DD and do not suffer with any back problems. I used to be a 34c in my 20's but gradually grew bigger as I got older and more fuller.

I agree with others, go to debenhams and get fitted.. they will find you the perfect bra. I need to get resized as the straps dig in sometimes.

Good luck x

Yeah as I said lost over 3 stone and they only continue to get bigger and I'm on the implant so I know what is causing the growth just getting irritated that they won't stop even though I've lost so much weight. Just can't seem to find the right bra no matter who fits me. It's annoying.

Went to the GP several times and they just waved it off as growing pains. Or said it can't be that bad as I wasn't massive and didn't take me seriously at all. And it's really hard to get a GP appointment in the first place

Privately I couldn't even begin to dream about affording that considering how little I earn

I can soooooo relate - 40H/J depending on bra ....

Or rolling over and slap.....or he leans in to kiss you and you need to grab your breast and throw it out of the way so he doesn't elbow it.....or he goes to undo the one clip, two clip, three clip or fourth clip and says bloody hell........

Massage helps my back and weight lifting has really helped....I've lost five stone at times and nowt off my breasts....

Embrace them darling......and grab a massage...xx

Definitely 38. Have been measured several times by different people and all said 38. Even done the measurements myself and it was the same. Anything in a 36 has always been too tight around my back and ribs. The bra is supposed to flat against your breast bone otherwise it's not the right size and a 36 just rides up my back no matter how much i fiddle with the straps

I have a small back and enormous boobs.

I have to buy bras from a specialized shop. Normal high street shops don't sell my size

I am also considered too small for nhs but by 1 cup size. Weight loss doesn't shrink my bust ever.

Men only see my chest. I can't lay on my front. I have pain all the time from them.

Clothes don't fit. I can't run. Sports bras aren't made in my size!

I would love a reduction but the cost is ridiculous. And I would be off work for so long and lose my home.

So yes. They are a bloody curse

Fair enough, that makes it a little harder. Have you been to see a physio? Most problems become more manageable with physio. Often you can self refer but if not get your GP to refer you and they might understand it is causing you a problem

Op, are you sure its the actual size of your boobs causing the pain and not the implant, although that wouldnt explain why you cant get a bra to fit you.

Asda have really reasonable cheap bras in all sorts of sizes, you could just try them on and see which you feel most comfortable in anf if you have the same problem when you get home you havent wasted that much money. Or just get a bigger back size

I have 40FF/38G breasts - I feel your pain.

That's not entirely true, I don't actually, mainly thanks to my upbringing. Huge amounts of horse riding, swimming and piano playing all helped to develop my upper body and my carriage.

The reason your back is hurting is because you haven't developed the core strength to stabilise your breasts. Try Pilates or yoga (I'd go with the former, but ensure you find a Body Control instructor, not just a mat based one).

I have the best sports bra in the workd - the first time I've been able to get something that reduces both the sideways and up and down motions, and i've never had the stomach strain after. It's called Enell and it is worth a hundred times my weight in gold (though it's actually only £45 or so). Only one place in the UK stocks them too, so give them a try.

I get my bras from Yours, we have a shop here in Leeds and you can get them online too. Very reasonably priced and they work.

Swimming costumes are an absolute bugger, I'll give you that. Especially when you're 6ft odd like me! I usually have to get my needle and thread out and work some magic to make them hold me up.

I adore my breasts, always have - big knockers are nothing to hate. Keep working at it and in another year you won't remember why you hated them so much!

Swimming costumes are an absolute bugger, I'll give you that. Especially when you're 6ft odd like me! I usually have to get my needle and thread out and work some magic to make them hold me up.

I adore my breasts, always have - big knockers are nothing to hate. Keep working at it and in another year you won't remember why you hated them so much!"

Will have to have a look at that and see what I can find. And a sports bra that works would be great but I don't have that sort of money to spend on them

Not convinced I've been measured properly at all as nothing in the size they said I was fits at all.

Yes swimming costumes are a hassle and I'm quite short so they always seem to be either massive or tiny on me.

I love my boobs just hate the pain hahaah!
