Help....
I'm taking quite a high dose of lyrica and it seems to have killed my normally very high libido.
Any tips from you lovely people would be gratefully received!

I've come off gabapentin , recently started pregablin. Oh dear perhaps I should have stayed on gaba.. mind you less pain at moment.. x |

How long have u been on it x as it does wear off x ive been on it a long time ( i have an inoperable blood clot on my spinal cord) and i was very unsexy for a while to me anyway x but it wore off x |

Please Dont take Lyrica / Gabapentin or Pregabalin..
Research the Side effects and the Possible Addiction.. First
Look for Lyrica Survivors..
The Side effects and Withdrawal effects are Not Published enough..

If used appropriately all these medications have a place in managing medical conditions including chronic pain the key word is appropriately.
Fentanyl is an opiate (the same family as morphine and heroin although many many times stronger) it can be a very good pain killer for some types of pain but often doesn't work well for others especially nerve pain hence the use of other types of drug as mentioned in the post. It is addictive and is what prince died from but for the right patient with the right type of pain I have seen very good results. Matrifen is a safer option as it is chew resistant if any pets or young children get it.
Inability to orgasm often lumped together as sexual dysfunction on medication leaflets along with a number of other conditions is frustrating as hell! You are all revved up but no matter what you do it seems nothing can quite get you off. It is an unfortunate side effect of many medication including SSRI antidepressants such as sertraline and Prozac. Many blood pressure tablets can affect a man's ability to have an errection as well.
We are all individuals and medication that can work wonders for one person with no side effects can be a living nightmare for another that is why reports that someone else had this problem or that this worked great for me are of very limited use. Some side effects can subside over time (e.g. the feeling of sickness with opiate medication) but others can get worse without treatment (constipation for example again with opiate medication unless treated) it may take a number of tries to find the best medication that suites you.
The best advice if you are having problems is to sit down and have a frank talk with your doctor explain in detail what is causing you problems and how it is impacting on and affecting your life, hopefully they will be sympathetic. It may be they ask you to persevere for a while and see what happens or it may be that they can try another options.
Having had this problem myself I can really sympathise it impacts on both you and your partner if you have one and can really affect your mood. I hope you are able to get a good result and if I can be of any further help please pm me. |

Yes I am aware of the addiction potential of this, that is one of the reasons why in the opening paragraph of my post I stressed that any medication must be prescribed appropriately. This would involve an assessment of the risk benifit ratio including addiction as part of the risk. Also why is the drug being considered. The reaserch for instance shows that it is far more effective in treating diabetic neuropathy pain than treating fibro myalgia. You would also have to consider other drug interactions, allergies and a whole host of other potential issues before the descission is made to prescribe.
These drugs are highly potent and there are many risks with them. However there is also for some people the chance that they are really effective where other drugs have failed and can for instance relieve chronic intractable pain or partial seizures. Also as I said everyone is an individual and not everyone is prone to the same side effects.
I would encourage anyone with a chronic medical condition to be as well read and up to date with as much information as you can get on it (beware the internet, only use reputable sources e.g. NHS direct). Discuss your condition and the various treatment options and any concerns with your doctor and come to a jointly prepared and agreed treatment plan that you are both happy with. Be prepared to rethink this if the situation changes.
But this is getting away from the original posters question about inability to orgasm which is unfortunately a recognised side effect of these drugs. |

I've tried both pregablin and gabapentin and can tolerate neither. It seems like I get no relief from prescription medication of any sort, even to the point I went cold turkey (with my gp's knowledge) from low dose morphine.
It's a bit of a bummer  |
