I don't work in a job where I can be in trouble for this stuff but why would somebody be so stupid! |

Yep as long as the site says that your pictures cannot be used out side the site. Then they should persue those people who breach this confidence. So firstly did he relinquish the private nature of his pics and secondly make the paper disclose who provided the pic then pesue them with the law.
Expensive but pretty sure we/you will all agree to additional levies to support your privacy right?? |

If you put photos on the internet they are in effect in the public domain. As an interesting aside copyright would actually only belong to the person who took the photo not the subject.
Copyright law is tortuous at best; anyone here going to risk tens of thousands of pounds in legal fees taking a copyright case to court? No I thought not - so if you don't want photos being used by others; don't post them on the internet. |

It's on the daily mail website, the username is listed on there but has either deleted or hidden profile according to the article, they even went as far as to give snippets of his verifications!
The issue appears to be him posing in his uniform
I was once outed by some club owners to my boss who they met socially once, it was when I was a couple, to say I was mad is an understatement, the club no longer exists and I had many happy times in there, afraid now all soured by the comments about my attendance..... |

I wouldn't bother pursuing it under copyright law. I'm not a lawyer but s33 and s34 of the criminal justice and courts act 2015 are probably best bet.
[tongue firmly in cheek]
As an aside... his comment "I did nothing illegal, just daft"... as it is an offence to impersonate a police office, he is probably the one 'police officer' on here not doing anything illegal lol.
(yeah, yeah, I know, lapel numbers needed etc... and yeah, I know of about a dozen coppers on here)

Only thing he's done is show his pic with his uniform on. Bit stupid but not the worst thing in the world. His lifestyle choice is his own business. If it doesn't affect the ability to perform his job duties there shouldn't be a problem. Don't think his conduct is questionable unless he had meets on duty whilst in his uniform. I think they'd find it very difficult to sack him. But with the media involved they could panic and be rash |

The media has a lot to answer for sometimes. They are heartless when it comes to bad press and gossip and only ever print one side of the story.
But then why put a profile picture up of yourself, especially your face. I don't understand why anyone shows their faces if they have things in their private life that could be jeapordised. It's just plain stupid. This is a sex site on the internet, nothing is totally secure but each person should minimise their own risks. |

Some employers do get a bit tetchy about their 'corporate image' being used as stated in this case, easily avoided by not having them public and or being a bit savvy about whom one sends pictures to..

He's obviously been a tool and used his occupation as an advantage over others and it's bit him on the arse. But it's his personal life and shouldn't be an issue with his job. Probably feels more embarrassment for being stupid. Whether he's embarrassed with his friends, work colleagues and family only he will know. Most people this day and age won't even bat an eyelid |

I've read another thread on here and get the impression the uniform photo was sent privately and not on public display which meant someone he sent it to then outed him which is pretty low but that said, he really should have thought twice about it. |

This should be a good warning to people that there are people on the site looking for a story. You can't know who is looking at your profile or why someone chats to you. The reporter must have had enough information to find out where the man lived, if they knocked on his door.
Is there a law against harassment that could be applied? |

wow there are some harsh comments on here.
The guy made a mistake, yes he tried to tempt the ladies who enjoy uniforms and it backfired.
He has my sympathy, we all send face pics when we decide its right, many have face pics on their profile, and many have pics with their work 'uniform' on, be it a suit or work clothes with logo on, wearing their company badge, picture taken in the office with identifiable logos on the paperwork behind them or on the desk, etc.
Newspapers search for stories, for those who deny him sympathy, would you be as happy if it happened to you.

This is exactly why I never send out face pics to anyone who asks or post them on my profile. This is also the reason I will only meet Verified guys only. After what happened at swingfields think about it!! Newspaper are constantly seeking stories and 10 years ago it was vice girls in flats which they seemed to do to death. Now they are turning their attention to swinging. And let's be honest here, it is easy for an undercover reporter to put a profile on here and trawl through the site seeking to meet someone the think may have a rather interesting profile... If they have a high profile job then even better! It never fails to amaze me how folk can let their guard down on fab and yes I would prefer to err on the side of caution - if I get less meets then I can easily live with that. |

I think the issue is that when you join you have to agree to certain rules. Posting or sharing pics in uniform likely go against rules on bringing discredit on the service and potentially opening yourself up to blackmail, although guess that depends on how open he was with family and so on about it.
Not quite sure how that dovetails with human rights legislation but it's what you sign up to. I have a degree of sympathy, especially if it was sent in a message but it was pretty daft. |

Although it's a shame that the tabloid has invaded this persons privacy, I still have little sympathy.
I've been in the emergency services game and I can ensure you that flashing your warrant card in clubs and posing in uniform in dating sites would have been drummed into you as a no no. This would have further been drummed into the officer whilst on active duty so if now loses his job then he should blame himself and hopefully not the daily mail. These rigid policies are there for a reason including reducing the risk of blackmailing you |

The paper used the pics that police officer sent the lady who blew his indenty on here. Therefore "his" pics no longer belonged to him.
Also this is a public site so I'm told. As such everyone's pics are open to anyone to "steal". Which is why I'm stunned when people put their face pic as public. |

It's their reason for existence though - they'd have no justification to publish every day if they did sensible journalism as no-one would buy it

Anyone thinking their personal life is just personal and shouldn't be exposed in this day and age of freedom of speech and media doing what they're paid to do by the readers and their employers is just plain naive. There is really no such thing as respect of privacy in this day and age.
If you respect your privacy it's up to you to protect it no one else is concerned for your privacy. Sounds a bit harsh but it's the reality we all live in now.
We all want to know other people's business... the most popular TV shows and tabloids and media reflects that.
Hide it if you value it...If you don't then accept it'll be of interest to many out there for numerous reasons...good or bad. |

The fact this place/swingers in general are in the media a lot leads me to believe its somebody from the inside.
A fab user. There ARE journalists using the site. Often they masquerade as normal users, may even appear to be normal users, maybe have fake verifications set up from multiple accounts they have access to as they set these free accounts up.
They may have even met genuine users to gain "credibility". Often the best place to hide is "in plain site".
They can then say "I've got nothing to hide" etc.
That what everyone who is duplicitous says.
They feel it gains trust.
This site is great but there ARE journalists here, just aire on the side of caution as you don't want egg on your face if you end up being a bloody story.
A woman was recently named and had her address appear in the paper from
Fab.

totally a leap into something out of context with your analogy..

I disagree. In police training school, this officer would have had it drummed into him not to identify himself as a police officer on the internet as well as in person unless it is to place himself on duty. After passing out, the police professionals standards department would have held talks about this at least every year.
If this officer sent photographs of himself (*in uniform) then he knew the risk that he may be sacked for bringing the job into disrepute. If is was not in uniform then it would likely not be a problem.
I'm an employer with a medium size work force and if any of my employees were on fab posing in a photograph wearing their name badges then I'd sack them immediately (and then block them on here!). If my employees are on here but do not identify my company then I'll block and move on as they have a right to be here. |
