I have to say I love the cynicism and the responses on here are more convoluted and cynical than the original post. A forum is somewhere to express your _iews and opinions. Positive posts complimenting people are no worse than the negative posts which tear people down. I see people in here carry a holier than thou attitude in everything they post and carry themselves as the walking embodiment of the perfect swinger. I hate to break it to people but no-one is perfect, no-ones opinion or conduct is any better than anyone else's. Every single person on fab is equal whether you care to believe it or not!!

But don't you see the irony in your post? We didn't go into other threads and say nasty shit. We came to this separate thread and just said we weren't into the other threads - that they weren't our thing. You are the one saying we can't have a cynical opinion (to use your terminology). It's a tad ironic, no?

Before I shut up, because it's been bugging me today...the thing that irks me about the saccharine sycophantic threads is that they are composed entirely of the same group of posters congratulating each other on how nice and kind they are. I think it's actually really off-putting and gives the impression there's only one acceptable way to post to have a place on the forum.

Elsewhere, other posters are quietly providing advice and support to people and welcoming newcomers. Those are the real "nice" people, not the love-in circlejerk ones who have to announce it.

To be fair it is ALWAYS the same people jumping into the ass kissing, clique-ophantic, thread hijack posting frenzy.

Myself and miss read new posts and take bets on which fab forum users will jump in first and which of their flock will follow them.

I'm usually right, spend any time on here and its truly blatant. You don't have to be Columbo to see the same users chirping up. Miss doesn't really bother with the forums much, I just read posts out now and again to her as she has a far lesser tolerance to the BS the forum vultures post than I do.

We aren't here to make friends.

We are here to be as we are in life, true to our real opinions and value our integrity so the ass kissing craic (pun intended) is not for us.

We kind of like being the ones the popular cliquey types don't like much.

Shows we don't try and sell out our integrity to "fit in".

I'm being totally upfront here when I say I really would hate to see the lounge go back to what it was a few months ago.

I can honestly say most days I felt excluded, there were only a few I could relate too and as silly as it sounds no role to play....the nice / pretty / sexy / clever etc etc 'positions' were doled out to the same people on an almost daily basis. I don't look to Fabs for affirmation but a bit of variety validation wise would be nice.

It's hard to say what I mean, I guess I was fed up with it all.

I've looked at the lounge threads today, posted in a few, but on the whole they haven't been threads I've felt particularly interested in. Then again I've been pretty under the weather and quite anti social in real life too recently.

Yes, a lot of the time it's the same people talking to the same people about the same things, but that's just the nature of forums in general, not just on here.

I think tonight I'm just in more of a Jack Dee mood as opposed to a Michael McEntire mood.

I took a four month break from the fora (the only reason I stay on the site) as I felt jaded. However came back because there was something I felt I was missing. Now I'm back I'm not sure what it was I missed.

It's probably me and the way I choose to participate there is less to interest me now and I no longer feel the inclination to start threads.

I definitely feel more cynical this time....

I was fed up before I deleted last, so that would have been March/April time. The thing that stood out to me then, and now even more so, are the threads that used to be fun such as avatar challenges which now all get filled up with conversation between a few posters which could be dealt with via pm. I don't mean the odd in-joke here and there, I mean constant back and forth, like the flirting doesn't exist if it's not carried out in public. It means the threads move too quickly and get filled up with a few people's (hate the word but it feels appropriate) banter. I never tended to post in the good morning or nighttime threads for the same reason, but it's spread to way more of them now.

And I also think the politics threads being hived off to an exclusion zone has been to the detriment of the Lounge. The constant referendum stuff was already getting irritating in March so I can see it might have been unbearable by June, but it means there's been a void which appears to have been filled with just...dross. The same dross every day.

I get that you're kinda joking, but you're also kinda not. I was pretty done with the forums a few months ago too. I don't think anyone is a moron, certainly. Just because a certain vibe isn't for me doesn't mean I think people are moronic.

I think a few things would help. I think bringing politics back would be nice. I love it, but I've gotten tired of the politics forum itself. Maybe bringing back avatar competitions? I don't know. People can post what they like, of course. I think its just a matter of not getting swamped with it all - just like how negative threads can be disheartening. There is a balance to the different vibes that I would personally like to see. Not all negative, but not all add licky either. If that makes sense?

However we now have avatar challenges every weekend and status shuffles every couple of days. When they were more sporadic and a bit special they were much more fun.

It's like taking an overdose for me. I liked the variety when I fell into the fora, even though the repetitive threads were there it was less all consuming

"I guess the question underpinning this thread might be, what is the change we want to see?

We probably all want something different change wise.

Well that would make it different if all those changes happened "

Or it could come around full circle & we end up where we started

I've been avoiding the lounge because its so bland ... the politics forum is a little extreme but its time to reclaim it. A few of us normal people are trying to break the nastiness up, but its tricky down there. Bring back whatever we had .... politics is part of life, not for those marginalized few

"I'm looking for the thread where the totally fucking awesome people post....?

But I thought this was it? The morons are in The Lounge aren't they?

Totally agree. It was much more fun when people put up a challenge that had at least a weeks notice you know, one that allowed more people to get involved and think about it and execute it properly without any rush. I think many will see the recent ones and go... meh!

Ruby's suggestion is a good one, moving Politics back into the Lounge would add more depth.

I do wonder if it's gone too far though, it's fucking horrendous down there now.

Ahhh! I wondered why I hadn't seen a few people posting for ages! They're all down In the politics section "

And they've probably eaten each other. Not in a sycophantic way.

Yep I don't engage with it. Having the time to be creative is key to those challenges and maintaining freshness is important to the life of fora

Challenges sound a lot of fun. Like sexy dares where the results had to be posted as pics or something.

Is that what happened?

More creative challenges with themes like DIY, Halloween, Valentines, Replicate another Poster's avatar or one of their iconic pictures....but sexy dares could be done too

Fab fun park

Poetry challenges

Yep it was great, all born out of the distance dilemma that people we really wanted to meet lived miles away

"I love how you can't sompliment people on the forums anymore without being branded sycophantic. It's nice to see cynicism alive and well on fab ....... as always

Of course you can compliment people but some of what gets posted is nauseating. And it's not a compliment if you give it to every single person who acknowledges your existence.

Healthy cynicism rules much more betterer

Cynicism rules "

Timing and relevance to what's going on is what makes the really memorable threads for me - finding the opportune moment is key

Is it so horrible that 'they' want to stroke each other's respective egos? I take anything written in the forums with a pinch of salt at the best of times as do many others, some take it too seriously either positively or negatively. If the worst is that it's somewhat saccharine then let it be

Yes, I only got noticed after taking part in one of the challenges and the picture is still mentioned now by those that know me. I'd love to take part in that again

“The aching in my chest

isn't because I miss you,

it's realizing that you have

become someone I no longer know,

your fears, your 4 am thoughts,

your achievements,

are things I no longer have an equivalent to.

Who we were and who we are

are four different people,

and the me from now

doesn't relate to the me from then,

let alone to the you from now.

I instigated a 'fab lolly' challenge ..

and a sporty one too...

but the recent ones have been a bit samey, as I had most of the pics in my arsenal anyway...
