Here's a question we occasionally ask ourselves so it would be good to get opinions from others.
Swinging challenges the definition of a conventional marriage so is it just a selfish excuse for fulfilling your sexual desires, or is it in fact the future of marriage in general?

Definition of conventional marriage by who?
Historically, far more cultures have polygamy than monogamous marriages. Even in our culture, I don't think there was ever a King who didn't have mistresses.
Secondly, 43% of marriages are failing anyway so I think that's far more of a threat to marriage than swinging is.
Finally, multiple studies have shown that 60-70% of spouses are unfaithful at some point in their marriage. Factor in the people that got divorced and remarried and very few people are having one sexual partner for life, even after marriage.
So in conclusion, swingers are just doing what most other people are doing, minus the lies. Is it the future of marriage though? No. Most people cannot get their head around it and would rather follow the inertia of social pressure to the contrary. |

I gave up on 'conventional' years ago. I kind of go with 'stuff that works for me and doesn't hurt anyone else' with the caveat of 'as long as mother doesn't find out' |

We have been together 9 years, swinging on and off for 7 of those and only married for 1. We did have a break from swinging after the wedding. But if we didn't swing we wouldn't have got married. I know for one I can't be in a monogamous relationship, I can't help but find other attractive and act on that.
We are honest with each other and our thoughts and feelings at all times and I think that's a successful marriage.
We were also careful to have a non religious ceremony and choose our own vows too as didn't want to void our vows when sleeping with others.
Swinging is not for everyone but I think monogamy is outdated |

This swinging malarkey has improved our relationship, we fully understand each others needs and after almost 18 years of marriage we are back to being loved up teenagers again. |

We are a very happily married couple and have been together 31 years and married 27 years next months. We are not bored with each other or wanting to find someone new we just wanted to introduce another element in to our relationship. We don't play that often as we are very busy work wise and also like to spend some time just for the two of us. We enjoy the fun of swinging but if either or both of us wanted to stop then it would end.
So in answer to the question no we do not see this life style as the normal for marriages, it is for us what we both want for the here and now but probably not our forever....especially where growing old comes into play. |
