Ok, a very good female friend of mine is absolutely desperate for a breast reduction.
After having a child 14 years ago, her boobs are very saggy and empty. She suffers from depression Alot from it. She wants too look into surgery in the Manchester area but doesn't have a clue where too look or what it costs etc.
Anyone with any experience of this able to give advice please?? |

I would advise her to talk to her GP about it. This is for two reasons. 1 if she is suffering depression regarding body acceptance issues she might be eligable for councilling and 2. Although breast reduction would probably be defined as a cosmetic treatment but in certain circumstances the NHS will fund treatment like this if it signifcantly improves the patient's well being.
The GP will probably be able to tell her a bit about how to get the medical procedure done, if the above does'nt really apply. |

Yep - what the person above said.
It is highly likely the depression is causing her body image issues, not the other way around. One procedure often leads to another, and another, and it never helps the underlying problem.
The depression needs to be checked out and dealt with. If her boobs really get her down that much when she has a clear head, then would be the time to consider it.
If her boobs are genuinely the cause of her depression, which only a medical professional can truly figure out, then the NHS can do the procedure for her. |

I had a reduction in my early twenties (they were enormous and very uncomfortable).
It was a long while ago and in a different country so I can't comment on cost or practicalities in the UK.
I think the depression and unhappiness with her body are two different things, but they can certainly feed each other.
Personally, I would do it again in an instant if I had to make the choice again -- it made me much happier and more comfortable in my own body.
I suggest she does as much research as she can beforehand-- recovery time, talks to women who've had it done (there are some good forums if she googles).

I had a reduction over 20 years ago on the NHS, after suffering for years of back problems and hating my breasts. They were ginormous. My GP referred me after I finally raised the subject with much embarrassment.
I'd do it again in a second. I feel much better about myself, and physically I'm a different woman.
If any lady wants to discuss 1-2-1, please message me.
