just wondering what scripts are best for using if developing your own website? i'll probably just look at page sources for other sites to get ideas but would be interested to hear your opinions, glitches, etc.
i still use html and java but not sure if java works on everything? not made a new site for while, that's why i'm asking.
also if you have any hints about what you think social sites should have i'd be interested to hear them. |

it's not for enterprise, so hoping to keep it cheap. and it will be niche so probably won't have more than several hundred members.
i'll probably collab with some people off another site as well. some kids i know like making scripts for free just for the challenge and acknowledgement. just wanted any adults perspectives really, so thanks for your input. |

Unless you don't mind a world of pain with version control stay away from Flash and Java, they have their uses, but you then need to keep on top of it and make sure what you have developed continues to work with updated code, I would suggest stick to html5 |

You can use CSS, cascading style sheets, it can control the layout of multiple web pages all at once and you can make the site more interactive and have animations as well with it |

Looking at page sources will only give you client-side view. If pages use PHP for loading data & content then you won't see it. Web design isn't easy really to make a good site, especially with all the compliance that has to be built in nowadays...
And beware of free website builders, they've got so much hidden advertising on them although that's not the case with them all... X |

Well... Wordpress is free so all you'll need to do is find some hosting space for it. You can customise it to do pretty much anything with plugins - I've made a social media type platform with it before with the buddypress plugin. |

Look at the various bootstrap templates.
Plenty of free ones and some really cheap ones. At the simplest level puck one close to what you want and edit the text.
Wordpress is fine but always find end up writing html anyway |
