Can someone please explain to me the difference between being in a 'proper'relationship, being friends with benefits and being fuck buddies. I'm very confused especially the distinction between fwb and fb? |

It's a bit of a sliding scale in my mind, and depends on how intense things are, how much time you give each other, how many strings are attached and how much emotion. If someone expects me to make them a priority in my life then that is a relationship IMO, even if it's an open one.
In general fwb would be guys you did more social stuff with, spent more time chatting to etc, but most of my fb's like to spend hours on the phone chatting to me and end up becoming friends even if we stop meeting for sex (eg 'cos of a relationship) - we just start going to gigs or dancing instead.
If we only meet for sex and don't go out together I still call them fb's though. |

Proper relationship - commiting oneself to a specific person because you care about them and want to be exclusively with them, both in and out of the bedroom.
Friends-with-Benefits - someone you have sex with, but are not in a committed relationship with them. You socialise with them out of the bedroom and do non-sexual stuff together.
Fuck Buddies - someone you just have sex with and don't socialise with outside the bedroom. Also know as a booty call lol. |

I would say if you met somebody of of here regularly just for sex or to attebd clubs with then he would be your fuck buddy.
If you were to also meet for meals,to go shopping,to the cinema or even share holidays then you would become friends with benefits.
If you were to become exclusive or to fall in love you would become boyfriend and girlfriend |

Fwb = meal , drinks , clubs with sex
FB = just sex |

Proper relationship = exclusive, so are those who swing but are in a relationship not in a proper relationship? |

Quite true, poor choice of words on my part. When I said proper relationship, I was talking in that instance about couples who don't swing. Would correct word for swinging couples be open relationship?
This is when labelling isnt appropriate at times |

"Trophy words for people that are shagging. Fb = shag fwb= shag + a bag of chips"
This cracked me up.
Seriously though, I agree with the general consensus of the thread.

Just about sums up what I was thinking. I have none of the first group currently. Three of the second. One of the third group. |

"So meeting for social stuff, meeting your family , chatting daily etc as well as meeting for sex would be what exactly?
FWB
Isn't that a relationship, once family are involved?"
For me personally I'd say no. A relationship is when it has been agreed one is in a relationship. Just because they've met people doesn't make it a relationship.

Don't many people just slip knot a relationship? I have never said to someone, okay let's agree we are in a relationship, it just happens doesn't it? |

A relationship implies commitment of some kind. FWB if either party finds a relationship (other than a swinging one) then the sex part would likely stop. One of my FWB has atcleastvone FB that I know...but she doesn't socialise with him as he is married. Another one did have another FWB from here when I met her. So for a while she had at least two FWBs....currently she just has me...but could have others if the opportunity arose.
I have a FB who is married. Her hubby knows about me...but I don't socialise with her apart from a couple of parties and a few club visits in the past.
That's how I see it...and how they see it. |

Not for me, and that's where a lot of people come a cropper, they think they have a relationship when actually they don't. |

Just noticed my tablet turned slip into slip knot, was that a Freudian slip or what? I agree, but on the other hand, I think many people deny they are in a relationship when they actually are, it goes both ways .... |

Can you have a friend with benefits that doesn't shag anyone else during the time that you're shagging, or is that too much to ask of someone that you aren't in a relationship with? I only want the odd shag sleepover on a weekend but don't want them shagging anyone else because they might get contaminated and I like cum inside me so need to trust someone to keep themself safe. |

I met a very lovely lady on here and we became great friends and lovers. Sadly she passed away last year. We started out as fuck buddies, she would text me and say get yourself over here now lol. Over time this grew into a real relationship. And now that she is no longer with me, then there is a very big hole in my life. If you can have any sort of fun in life, that doesn't impact on anyone else then go for it and enjoy it xxx |

"so where does just dating but not serious yet fit in "
Dating is supposed to be the pre-amble to a relationship. I never really did any dating - in my youth we always started a relationship with sex lol! |

See we started as fb but over time - like 4 years, he gas met my family. I have been on holiday with him and his kids. We socialise and we fuck. He says it's not a relationship he says we're fwb.
We chat every day either text or phone and see each other twice a week?
What's the diagnosis? |

If it's not a relationship you could take a month break and not bother you. Sounds convenient for him rather than you to not use the r word ? |
