It is because they want to express what they are looking for and what they are not looking for and, perhaps, to express their personality. It is hard to do that in a few sentences.

So how do you know if a profile is a good match for you if you don't read it? Surely sending out messages to unsuitable profiles wastes more time than it would take to actually read the profile and therefore make an informed decision as to whether that it's worth taking the time to send a message.

We like to meet people we get on with, it's not just about looks. Having a profile which deprives what we want and gets some of our personality across suits us well. You're not obliged to read it, but if you don't, it's doubtful your first message will be one that will stand out to us.

How can you possibly write an approach to someone, that will make them stop and respond to you - if you havent read about them -

They are saving you lots of time by telling you what they are looking for, what they like and don't like - usually respect and trust...as its you who wants to meet them not the other way around - its only polite - and if you dont have time - slow down sit on the loo and read profiles, and make a valuable approach that will work and get you noticed.

Hidden profiles really shouldn't effect you in the least. The reason people usually hide their profiles is because they are either taking a break, or not wanting to receive any more messages at that moment in time.

I've had both, a long winded profile & now a short & to the point one. Can honestly say it makes no difference to the quality / quantity of messages received.

One thing that has improved is that I no longer get irked when men don't read it

We realised fairly early on that no one reads the profile so we thought we would make ours funny to encourage people to read it.

We tried to include our likes and dislikes in a funny way but still no one reads it.

I think this is a case where length doesn't matter

There are very few really really long male profiles, but when I see one I move on. I don't moan about it on the forums though because I have no idea why its so long. Perhaps they've added to it as they've gone along. Perhaps it works for them.

A detailed well written profile describes what you are looking for and helps potential meets assess the type of person that you are and whether you will meet their requirements .

If someone is too lazy to either read or write a detailed profile , it does not bode well.

Another advantage is that fakes are unlikely to go to the bother of writing a detailed and informed profile .

In any event any competent person should be able to read even the longest profiles on her in less than a minute .

By having a detailed profile , you avoid wasting other members time ..

I have just made mine longer to save men wasting time if there are issues with my circumstances or restrictions. Its less about what I want and more about "are you ok with..)

The great thing about fab is that we are all different... Whereas you would prefer to read or have people read (if they can be bothered) your requirements, others would prefer to get a gist of the profile writer and then get to know more via messages etc...

Another advantage is that fakes are unlikely to go to the bother of writing a detailed and informed profile .

In any event any competent person should be able to read even the longest profiles on her in less than a minute .

They (long profiles) are a waste of time in my opinion. Go read my wife's. She still gets 30 or so messages per day. I used to have a "real" profile, but it did me no good at all. Hence my current one.

There's detailed, and then there's ridiculous. As stated above, pithy is better. A person can get their likes and preferences across in surprisingly few words if they try, and some info you see on some profiles is extraneous to put it mildly.

Mine is fairly long but does contain useful information. I put a very important point at the top but I still get people from over 250 miles away who think I'm just down the road.

If someone can't be arsed to spend a minute seeing if I'm suitable, why the hell would they expect me to spend 90 minutes getting ready, time travelling and time meeting with them. It's not exactly the most arduous trade!

Some people don't like to cam. I don't, never have done so to them, they perhaps have a longer more detailed profile. Its their way of doing things as yours is going on cam. Simply find someone who does things your way and suits then happy days.

We all have choices, the folk who have written long profiles made that choice, It's up to you 'your choice' to read it or not...It's also their choice not to respond to messages.. whether you've read their short medium or long profile.

The thing is OP you say you've taken a lot of stick over this thread.

You started by asking a question, which is fair enough, but when peoples have you honest answered as to why they have long profiles you seem to have taken issue and gone in a bit of a crusade to convince those who don't use the site just the way think it should that they should change to your way of thinking.

Your gonna disagree with me but read the thread again. When others have explained their reasoning you haven't said "fair enough" you've kept re-asserting your own opinion over and over, and over, and over.

I'm guessing is why you've had some stick.

It's one thing asking an open and honest question, it's another thing asking a question just so you can tell people they are wrong when they answe it.

I prefer a detailed profile in order that I do not waste my time chatting to those whose requirements I do not fill.

In addition I always assume that one line profiles are fakes.

We only bother chatting if there is enough in the profile to indicate that it is worth chatting. We would be forever chatting, otherwise, with the chat ending in nothing.
