Because they can look for people they want to meet themselves without messages from guys they don't want to meet clogging up their inbox.

Or they currently can't meet at the moment so messages from people they can't meet would be fruitless

or they may just be talking to people they have already been in touch with... or have on friends lists.... as they will still be able to contact them....

I look for men (aswell as fem and MF) but I do turn my message filters on and off to suit

I turn them on a while and if I find a couple of men to chat to and maybe possibly meet I turn it off again until it all starts again and if I add a meet I turn it on

Otherwise I get bombarded with messages and get easily confused who I am talking with lol

I openly tell people in my profile that I do it too

Or the person messaging them is rude or crude etc or even that they aren't what the people in question are looking for. Just move on and accept this for what it is.
