Recently had an MOT or 'screening' at the sexual health clinic to monitor safety and was told that as I now swing, I need to be screened every 6 weeks to 3 months because the risks are as high as a sex worker.

Thoughts.....

Swinging or just sleeping around on one night stands with whoever you can pull at a club; risky sex is risky. If you are taking appropriate precautions with who ever you sleep with then get tested as you see fit.

Personally, I get tested regularly. Regardless of whether I have had sex or not; risky or not. IF I have risky sex then I will get tested again sooner. That is my choice; for my health.

Fully agree with them and that's we get checked every six weeks

I personally don't understand the time frame idea, getting tested after each time seems like a better idea to me.

When we are active we go every 6/8 weeks it sooner if we have had a very very naughty time, when not active we do 3 monthly just to be sure. Even if you think your safe by wearing condoms when you meet, it's paramount you still get regular checks x

er----had no one been told that some things take at least 3 months to show up on tests? (and others at least 2 weeks). Regular testing is essential, just don't think all's fine because a test just after a risky thing came back negative.

That's why responsible people go every 3 months or as otherwise recommended by their sexual health clinic..

There is no difference if someone swing or not, the risk are still the same if someone goes bare..... just spin the wheel.

Sex workers are not necessarily 'high risk' nor people on here who have multiple partners..

It is really about what you do.I know of an escort and he rarely gets tested as he never practices unsafe sex...

why wouldnt they be as high as a sex worker?

STIs dont understand money if your having sex with verious partners your risks will be the same

why would you get tested if your not having sex, what are you expecting the results to be?

i can understand getting tested the first time after a dry spell incase you picked something up when you was having sex but if you havent had sex since last being tested why do you feel the need to get tested again

Well unless you use dental dams and condoms for oral, you can still catch an sti or std on the first meet after testing. So no its not silly in fact, just inconvenient.

Do you realise how naive you sound? STIs don't show up immediately after having sex so getting tested that soon would be pointless as well as silly!

Also why do you think that sexual health clinics recommend every 12 weeks for most swingers and not every time you have sex?

i was thinking that, i had a scare not long back, i met a guy and when he had finished he pulled out but the condom didnt, took me 10 mins to fish it out but that time most of the cum had come out and was in me, i called the clinic the next morning and was told to wait two weeks before going in because if i went any sooner if i had cought anything it may not show up

I seriously suggest you visit the sexual health clinic if you are serious about this lifestyle and have a chat with them about the facts.

Well so far I didn't have a need for that because I only had relationship sex (we're both virgins at the time). But yeah I'm definitely going to sex clinic after my first meet even if its just for the educational purpose like you said. On the other note I will definitely not be meeting people for sex everyday, or even every months most likely so testing each time for me shouldn't be a problem so much.

I am not surprised!

The IGNORANCE of white, British, female, NHS-employed, married with 2.4 kids, heavily mortgaged-because-of-the-Conservatory-bungalow, Health Care staff, who HAPPEN to work in a Sexual Health Clinic because they progress by years of work and want the money, not because of their evidence based knowledge, never seizes to increase.

Call me judgemental...

Sex workers actually have a lower incidence of sti's than the general public as they are more careful than most of us!

What he never gives Oral !!!

That's unsafe sex lol

People think because they wear condoms they aren't at risk

Oral stds are such as common

But on a serious note

My gum clinic suggest every 12 weeks

And that regukarly checked sex workers and active swingers have the lowest positive test rates because they get checked regularly and are more sexual health aware hence stopping the risks of spreading..

The only safe sex is no sex !!

I don't care how safe someone thinks they are!!!!!

Having multiple partners and not getting checked is reckless and ignorant and shows no concern for those you meet.

This is exactly the double standards that make my piss boil.

Bareback swingers get made out to be disease ridden scum even though the vast majority have very regular checks.

But someone that uses a condom is saintly on a par with God!!!! Even though they never get tested cause they are safe!!!

We can't get across how important it is to get regular checks. Guys that wear condoms.......how many cocks has that woman sucked bare when she gets your in her mouth???? But that's ok cause you put a condom on to fuck.

You're a single guy....won't need to be that often lol

All joking apart, when I was very active I would get tested every 3 months or sooner if I felt I needed to. I'd also get a crap load of free condoms.

The tests are really only valid until the next time you have sex.

Surely that's a 'how long is a piece of string' scenario. How many people does a sex worker sleep with in a week? How many people swing every day, every week? Very few I'd wager - especially if our and people we've played withs habits are anything to go by - it's very rare.

To say it's 'as high' I think is a bit misleading. Of higher risk, certainly. As someone said, going to a nightclub and pulling someone for a one nighter is equally as risky, they wouldn't seem that in the same class as Sex workers though.

Just ma tuppence.

I go every 3 months. Better safe than sorry. Up to now I've never had any issues. I always practise safe sex and try to reduce any risk to the minimum. You can still have great sex and be careful at the same time.

I don't believe it. Bisexual men and sex workers are the only people that get STI's. Swingers are safe because they only have sex with other swingers rarely.

Everyone knows condoms are 100% safe and it takes over 100 partners to get an STI. No-one catches anything with the first 99.

regular testing is something I have done since I was 17 and my best friend caught the clap off her then serious boyfriend who was cheating on her and I am lucky I work in a club that has 6 weekly staff MOT checks from our local GUM clinic nurses.

I have always taken my sexual health seriously but have at times had mad moments like we all do and at those times a GUM clinic visit has been a priority for me better safe than sorry.

Anyone can contract an STI condoms split its a fact and although of lesser risk according to some reports oral sex also carries risk and some STI's are not symptomatic for quite some time so to think your 100% safe is fool hardy as is expecting everyone else to take screening as serious as yourself is. you just need to be sensible about it and lets be honest a 2 second swab that could identify any problems so you can seek available treatments before something more nasty gets holds is a small price to pay in my book

Apologies if these are daft questions but being fairly new to this it's useful info to know

1) do you tell them when you go into the clinic that you're into swinging?

2) do you get funny looks being older going in the clinics?

3) how long does it normally take for the results to come back?

4) do you keep swinging in between testing and getting the results?

As a say, sorry if any or all are daft questions but it's got to be best to ask i hope?!

none of your questions were silly hun and my answers are the same as above apart from I do identify myself as a swinger by personal choice

TBH clinic are just happy you take your health seriously no matter your age its just a shame some of us older swingers are either embarrassed or uneducated in some cases about this issue or just plain scared to visit a clinic because they wonder about things like privacy age and will they be judged for being sexually active all things I have found clinic staff go out of their was to allay any fears you have and make you feel comfortable and confident of using their services

1. Yes we say we're swingers. They just ask what type of sex then rather than how many.

2. No we don't get funny looks.

3. A week to ten days

4. Yes we still swing. It's an ongoing testing swinging thing.

Out clinic says its best to get swabs and pee checked two weeks after a meet.

We do that but sometimes we're very active so we go through the active phase. Stop. Get tested and wait for results before swinging again.

We go three monthly for a full screen including bloods.
