"

Does it? I thought the hamlet of Heathrow was completely demolished during the airport expansion and now Heathrow is now only the airport.

Certainly "HUGE explosion at Heathrow" wouldn't make me think "gosh, a car must have backfired in Hillingdon High Street"

There is a vast industrial area around Heathrow, there could quite easily be an explosion near to the airport. At this time of night I would very much doubt it is one of the terminals.

the whole area covering Cranford, hanworth, bedfont, Hatton, Longford and many more areas are all generally known as Heathrow. The perimeter is over 6 miles and and borders greater London boroughs, south Bucks and North Surrey. I can see the control tower from where I live but wouldn't necessarily hear an explosion on the other side

Maybe to you, but I would know Houndslow as 'Houndslow' etc.

So to the vast majority of people the point still stands.

Obviously I'm going to look incredibly fatuous tomorrow morning when it turns out the whole of Terminal 1 has disappeared in a HUGE explosion without any of the news channels even noticing...

As Terminal 1 has been closed for over a year, I wouldn't be overly bothered by an explosion there, probably a mishap with some contractors.

There have been evacuations on nearby estates caused by exploding gas bottles, a timber yard fire and an industrial unit in Staines upon Thames catching alight.

Even Southall is close enough to be described as close to Heathrow

To be honest when you hear and feel an explosion and you live in the area you call Heathrow you don't worry about the wording so much. I just wanted to know if anyone had any info. Obviously it wasn't the airport. Sorry to panic everyone I panicked too as did most of my neighbours. I have reported it to admin and if anyone else wishes to do so aswell then feel free maybe that will get it removed more quickly.

You have really piqued my curiosity now. What would I call the area in which you live? Given that you state it is 4 miles from Heathrow. And given the 'explosion' was large enough to bring everyone out onto the street, why didn't you ask them, or search google before going onto social media and stating "HUGE explosion AT Heathrow"?

Ps the fireworks from Matlock Bath rattle our windows...

The hotels at Slough and Windsor advertise themselves as Heathrow hotels so 4 miles is definitely considered Heathrow

True, but that's because they are touting for airport trade. They are still in Slough and Windsor though, so if one of them had been blown up, I'd expect the headline to read "Windsor hotel bombed".

Of course you do realise that you have just made me google 'Slough explosion' only to find the old joke "Huge explosion has caused thousands of pounds of improvements to Slough"

(Come friendly bombs...)

Besides, my money's more on the Staines area judging by his pics

This reminds me of when Nottingham tried to claim East Midlands Airport. It is in Leicestershire, but is closer to Derby than either of them and even has a Derby postcode

There was never going to be Frisky, not after an hour. I only waded in once the OP started attacking those who doubted him and started to make increasingly adamant claims for his hysteria.

The closest I managed was LBC being 'blasted' for giving Katie Hopkins a show.

Next they'll be trying to tell us the Loch Ness Monster has moved to the Thames...

Blimey what an over reaction!!

I don't rely on Fabs to report the news, if I see a thread title like this I check it out on established sites.

The title may have been a bit over dramatic but it hasn't alarmed that many people judging by the amount of posters.
