Just read WhatsApp are encrypting all calls and messages from today.

Is this a good or bad thing ?

And if you want our WhatsApp name for filthy secure chats on any subject pm us xxx

When you click on the box saying it, it says... It means whatsapp and third parties can't read and listen to them.

I can't see it being a bad thing?

Personally I'd still prefer the agencies that prevent terrorist acts to be able to break the encryption with proper oversight

It only works by scanning the code on the other persons phone ... So to establish the secure chat you will have to meet them...

It's only available for people who have updated to the newest version of whatsapp

Nope. It works for all if they have the latest version. It tells you if they have or not.

The meet thing is to verify if you want. You don't even have to meet for that, there's a (long!) sequence of numbers you can use.

Oh, that's just for verifying encryption - it happens automatically apparently. I wonder why only one notification so far?
