My guess is in dress sizes:
Curvy = 12/14
Ample = 14-18
Large = 18+
Or perhaps we need to apply and MOT style shock absorber test - the wobble test, slap their arse and:
Curvy = wobbles 2-3 times
Ample = Wobbles 4-5 times
Large = Keeps on going and going and going

surely high comes into it too?
dress sizes will look different on women of different hight
but i have to say theres far to many women on here who use curvy when they quite obviously are not
im mean im not being funny but if you site down and have 3 bellies thats not curvy its fat
to me curvy is someone slim with a femanine shape not someone over weight
im a size 16 and about 5ft8 and have always put large as my build but ive seen women on here much bigger than me who have average or curvy |

Yes, but who are you to question how someone sees themself?!!
If they had extra large I'd tick it as I am. I too have seen women my dress size but much shorter describe themselves as curvy.
Hell, I nearly choked on my cappuccino the other day when a very plain looking couple in my view, posted about the lack of attractive couples like them! Good to see in the recession the talking mirrors industry is doing a roaring trade!
The point is that's how they see themselves others don't, hence their lack of meets, although they'll never recognise that. Just as someone who describes themselves as curvy might realise large is more appropriate when their upteenth meet goes back to the car and never returns!
But people are allowed to be delusional! |

OK. I'm putting my hands up here and surrendering! I use "curvy" although I should probably have "large" selected. I chose "curvy" because that's how I feel and it makes me feel sexier than describing myself as "large". I also make a point in my profile of saying I'm a big girl and acknowledge that I know I will not appeal to everyone... Sounds contradictory but I chose to use the word "big" which makes a difference to me. At the end of the day, does it really matter? I feel sexy and some guys will find me attractive, others won't... And by the way, my arse although built for comfort hardly wobbles!!! Just in case you were wondering! He he he |

The day a tick box on a website influences how I feel about myself, is the day I curl up and shart shaking in the corner.
There certainly are a lot of women who put curvy and do not match my understanding of the word.... I always beleived it was the classic hour glass shape (in a variety of sizes).
However, I think the greater lack of confidence is shown by women who imply they are bigger than they are.... almost as if telling people they are a bbw and then turning up as a plumpish size 16 will be a pleasant suprise. |

humm dont know, not offen i disagree with you but i think i have to on this one lol
im a size 16 and i class myself as a BBW and i have large on my profile, thats not because i want guys to meet me and think...oh ive struck gold here shes not that big after all lol nor is it down to my lack of confidance its because in my eyes i am big, i've had 3 kids so have a very saggy belly and boobs that are 3 foot lower than they was 20 years ago lol, big arse and big thights, i just do see myself as a big bird and i like to be honest |

i put large because i am large, even if your the most confidant person that dont change your size, i would still be big built if i looked at myself everyday in the mirror and thought...god your gorgeous lol
i do understand what you mean tho
but i think most people see a size 16 as the start of being a BBW, or whatever you wnat to call it, you can be big and sexy, to me sexy dont come in a dress size, attraction comes in a dress size, sexy is attitude and you can find someone attractive and not sexy
All becuse someone can look at themself and know they are big does not mean they dont like themselves
ive never had any problem finding meets on here or any other site i dont have to 'dress myself up' in size in order to get meets i see no point in that at all |

I am a size 12 and would def put myself down as curvy as i am def not skinny, and would not class myself myself as slim, I have an hour glass figure which i would say is curvy, so think it is a matter of personal perception of yourself |

It worries me as a Mother to a girl that is definately not large... she is a size 12, and quite tall.. but she calls herself fat because apparently a 12 is the new 16...
Shocking really..
Until a size 16 I wouldnt even say it wasnt slim... :D but then I would be quite happy at a size 16. :D
at a size 12 I am slim.. almost to slim :D but I have an hour glass figure no matter what size.. :D

"you are a size 12 and have an hourglass figure you are curvy "
Guess it depends on how you look at it.. I like my curves... but at 12 my daughter would be upset if she was refered to as curvy.. even though she is.. she just isnt straight up and down..
I would think most women are curvy, women are meant to have curves.. Waists tuck in, hips slightly larger etc.. its a sign of being a woman..
At a 12 I am to me slim, at a ten I am skinny and lack what I think are womananly curves.. Seeing as I am an 18-20 at the moment its neither here nor there.. lol
I just think that there is to much put on size.. and it sends out the wrong signal to the young girls.

Athletic would be "ouch my hand"
As for what size a woman is, many say "average" but since average has increased over the years to be a dress size 14 (or could be 12, cant remember exactly now), the problem is many woman say "average" but that doesn't really mean much. Since average in the US of A is going to be dress size 18+.
I don't like thin so you can see the ribs poking out (UN fly some food out to them please) but don't like them much heaver than me (11.5 stone) as i don't want to be crushed to death in bed! (fun as that may).
I did have a date recently where the woman went off on one saying I need to put on 1.5 stone to be "health" and how BMI/fat percentile is a load of rubbish - My guess was that she weighed 13 stone and was only 5'6"
According to my dietician I am at the ideal weight (+- 0.5 stone). But most want heaver people due to shifting perceptions of what is average (see above).

Depends on what is the average size?
Almost a third of adults living in and around Birmingham are obese – twice as high as the EU average.

I'm a size 16 - and describe myself as curvy - I go in and out. Yes I have a squidgy stomach, but it's not massive and I'm far more hourglass curves than what I would describe as ample/ large or whatever the profile choice is.

I have a belly
I have hips
But with boobs as fabulous as mine who gives a monkeys or looks at my belly??
It how you feel is more important.
I see curvy as a woman with curves. That can ber a size 10 and can be a size 16 as long as their body is curvy.
Maybe I am fat, but I dont care as have been told that I have wonderful curves. Noone has ever referred to me as fat. |

I googled the average size woman and found this gem posted in The Independent. It was written in June 2000.
Monday, 26 June 2000
The dress size of the average British woman has grown from 12 to 14 in just over a decade, researchers said yesterday.
The dress size of the average British woman has grown from 12 to 14 in just over a decade, researchers said yesterday.
Marks & Spencer last commissioned a study 12 years ago when the average bust was a B cup but the survey has found a C cup is the average today. Fattier diets, lack of exercise, and the contraceptive pill are among the reasons given.
The chain has now altered its sizes to fit the curvier proportions of modern women, and will be replacing size 12 mannequins with newer models that reflect the change.
Researchers spent a year measuring 2,500 women, and found the average woman is now 36C-28-38, is about 5ft 4in tall, and has size six feet.
David Rowlinson, who co-ordinated the survey, said: "Modern women are taller, with bigger frames, larger hips and breasts. There's nothing wrong with being a size 14, it's just the way most women are."
So we're a decade on does this mean the average is now a 16? But don't worry It's just the way women are. David Rowlinson says so! |

I absolutely do not care one bit what size a woman is, if I find her attractive then I find her attractive. Its the whole package to me, look at Nigella. If you look at pictures of her 10 years ago she is much slimmer than she is now but shes still looks amazing now.
Its all about sexual attraction and some people like women who are bigger than others and some don't, its all down to personal choice.

I think curvy is a nice way of saying the lady is packing a little bit extra...however, curvy literally means bearing curves which any size lady can....ample to me would be a grabful, as in ample breasts (a handful)... lol and large well that could mean the woman is a large frame, a large size, have large breasts or have large feet....
Who cares, people have webcams and pictures...check from there!! I'm tall, I'm a size 16 and I'm fabulous and I'm curvy cos I go in and out in the right places!! |

Good topic I often have this quandary as a fem when we look at profiles. You almost want to ask "look just how bloody fat or thin are you!"
I have resisted so far. For the record I'm size 12 and consider this average...although I'm verging on curvy lol |

When we wrote our profile Wolf put curvy though I would call myself ample or generously proportioned or cuddly or well rounded or fat depending on my mood on the day.
I wear size 14 jeans but need an 18/20 for my top, sometimes even a 22 if its a tight shirt so have a huge variation in my wardrobe - and rarely wear dresses lol.
I'm confident with my body mostly, I've had two kids so have a belly which means I try and take flattering photos for the profile lol. My boobs are pretty much still where I want them and I love my ankles when I'm wearing high heels.
I think beauty is more about confidence than anything else. I spent a very long time being put down by my ex husband who didn't want me and called me many unpleasant things. It took a long time to get over that and I still have the odd confidence crisis. But I now have my Wolf who tells me every day that I am beautiful and I'm starting to believe him. This site does wonders for me too as others find me attractive and it makes me feel good.
Good quality underwear also makes me look good and gives the me that extra confidence boost to say - "Look at me, I'm fabulous!"

Height can be a factor too of course in relation to size.
Personally - its more about the person and their personality than mere size.
However and with fear of contradicting myself - I recently was propositioned by a lady of size 34, though I'm sure she was a lovely person this was somewhat outside my comfort zone! |
