Very fed up with the fucking HUGE number of people (women and couples too I'm sure - this isn't a rant against single males!) who chat to you for ages, arrange to meet and then - on the day - go ooooooooh soooo quiet!

My only child-free evening for over a week ballsed up!

Ah well - gym, TV (new series -Jericho), a glass of wine and a rabbit and porn session for me! At least it's a cheap night I guess!!

Happens Just need to be careful about who you arrange things with, though even the people who seem legit are guilty of it on occasion. Their loss, eh!

I watched a few episodes of Jericho last year, seemed pretty good

Tell me about it. 2 out of 3 Skype social thingies cancelled just this week.

It's why we prefer to Skype than meet initially. At least I didn't pretty myself up too much.

I just shrug it off though. Not pissed, really.

I was alluding to the fact that a huge number of people on the site do it (hence the not infrequent threads!) - not that I have a huge number of disappointments! Probably have at least my fair share though!

But yes - I've been here long enough to be cautious and have a plan b - gym, tv, wine and Roger!

This is probably my biggest bugbear, I'd sooner be told, it's really not that difficult.

It might help if people who arenew or nervous lurked for a while to get a feel for the place and to get comfortable with the idea of playing, only a few seem to dive head first into arranging meets and then just going quiet, so frustrating.

I was looking at our fab diary for 2015 and did a summary. Out of 11 invites/agreements to meet only 2 turned up.

All 11 were verified and we had spoken to all of them by phone as well as numerous messages exchanged.

None of the 9 no shows bothered to do the courteous thing and text us with an apology.

In spite of notification to Fab most of them are still members and are to this day arranging meets with other members.

Getting let down is a well known concern but the extent of it can be astonishing. No wonder we prefer club

meets now.

Said this before - those who chat for ages tend to be the very same type who don't show for a meet .

Best advice is to establish enough from messages to get compatibility , then cease communicating until the day of the meet .

Have a back up in case of a cancellation .

The more they chat , the less they meet .

The standard advice to fellas would be 'unlucky pal, but suck it up and be more rigorous with your vetting'.

I always feel that is a bit disingenuous and blunt as they're people with feelings too - so I'm not going to say that in this case other than to say sorry to hear that OP, it's incredibly unfair and inconvenient and I hope your evening gets better and it that doesn't happen to you again.

There is in fact no sure fired way of avoiding this kind of situation. That is a fact.

Yes it is possible to reduce the chances but they will never be avoided completely.

The best suggestion so far is to have a plan B in place. If not a Plan C and D.

You could line up a reserve meet, telling them that you have a provisional meeting in place but if that were to fall through to be on stand by. That way you arn't misleading anyone and you get the best from your limited time.

You have one of the most imaginative profiles in our area. Someone has bad a big mistake.

You may misunderstand ....

There are horses for courses , and if the fish and chip shop is closed , a pizza from round the corner would be just as nice .

First come first served and all that .

You arrange a meet , and just in case he doesn't show up , there's nothing wrong with having a good time with plan b , which will be just as good as plan a .

There are horses for courses , and if the fish and chip shop is closed , a pizza from round the corner would be just as nice .

First come first served and all that .

You arrange a meet , and just in case he doesn't show up , there's nothing wrong with having a good time with plan b , which will be just as good as plan a .

What do you tell plan B if plan A does show up??!

"You could line up a reserve meet, telling them that you have a provisional meeting in place but if that were to fall through to be on stand by. That way you arn't misleading anyone and you get the best from your limited time.

I would never do this. I can imagine how I'd feel if some guy told me I was his back up plan. Not very nice.

You may misunderstand ....

I was thinking that! Don't think I could do it tbh as I'd hate to know I was someone's plan b!

Happily a friend has offered to 'come and watch TV with me!'

It depends how you play it .

We tend to say to plan b , we may be able to make it , but can't be sure till later . Usually saying its down to whether the babysitter shows up .

Now everyone will know

There's always another day...and plenty to choose from. Guess too much choice can dilute or cloud the selection. I had that happen last week...took about 5 weeks of chatting. Now have to go through the whole process again....will find one though. It can feel a bit like the life of a flying ant... 9 months underground preparing for about 5hrs of flight if you're lucky.

I've offered to be a reserve meet. Knowing that stuff happens in everyone's lives means that we have to accept that we can't always do what we've planned.

Rather than waste an opportunity, why not have a backup?

We should be helping our fab friends

I should add that I don't have an ego that would be affected by someone I know meeting someone else. That's not always the case on here, even though it should be.

Yep, happens to the best of us. Was one of the reasons i needed a breather off the site. Thought many I spoke to were genuinely interested in meeting. But, when it came to it - all they did was mess me around.

..is always good to have something else to do if plans go a bit pear shaped

I think in this instance because i don't get much free time he wanted to be my go to guy if i suddenly found myself available. I often arrange meets a month or so in advance.

I think they are.

To be honest, if it is someone I meet regularly, I wouldn't mind being their plan B either (time permitting for me to get ready and such). But it would have to be for someone I've met a few times before.

Anyone want to try it with someone they've not met before?

As said, I think regular friends would be fine (although my ex FB used to get pissy if I wasn't available when he was), but I wouldn't do it to a guy I'd not met before.

"I was looking at our fab diary for 2015 and did a summary.

No wonder we prefer club

meets now.

"

Totally agree, with Club meets you can still socialise, have a good evening and enjoy making yourself look and feel good.

After many a phone chat etc, ive had nine no shows in the last 3 months...so clubs are all the way forward for me now xx

I think that only works if it's someone you've met before / regularly. On a first meet? Any hint I was some kind of back up plan and there would never be a meet at all that night or ever.

It's a shame when this happens. I've had quite a in mber if people "forget" that they arranged to meet also, but then again I've probably heard every conceivable excuse (I mean.. reason) under the sun. Most of which a guy would not get away with, just my experience.

Including this one: "I forgot it was the day of my mom's cancer appointment, didn't know why I had that day off in my diary as blank" for a meet that had been arranged a month in advance and confirmed right up to the day before.

Yes, the backup contact I feel only works with someone you both know each other well enough that way and the other person is free at the time.

I guess I have a fragile ego, then.

But personally, it's not about feeling like "second best." It has more to do with wanting the build up and excitement for a meet. Wanting to get ready (which takes me ages) knowing I'm going to be meeting someone I've been wanting to meet.

I think it's that what I'm looking for in a meet wouldn't be conducive to "hey, my plan A cancelled, wanna hop over then?" If it was someone I meet regularly then all of that will already be present so I'd be more apt to be a plan B for someone. But for a regular meet? It's not really what me and my ego are after.

Hmmmm! I plan my week around my children actually - like any good mum! Yep - on my child-free time I occasionally like to meet very nice men for mind-blowing sex - which is the main reason I'm on fab! So why are you on here lovely? - other than to attempt to antagonise - which you did so beautifully on the bukkake bride thread?
