Well I think that's how it was spelt.

What ever happened to munches. When I first came across a much and was introduced into the world of fab they seemed to be a munch every weekend.

It's been years since I've seen one advertised.

2016 should be the year of the munch lol.

Munches still happen. You can find a local one on the fetish site.

I go to a few in the northwest.

The only ones I see advertised on here are swinging socials rather than munches although pretty much the same thing just a different theme.

There are play munches and specific fetish munches you can attend in the northwest.

A munch is a gathering of the likeminded (the link lot) usually in a vanilla setting such as a pub. Everyone is usually dressed vanilla and leaves their kit bags at home. It's just a chance to socialise, talk best practise, find out info about events, kit, find a play partner etc.

At the munch I attend, we sit and chat in a pub and someone bring cake. There is always cake.

You can go to play munches where they have demos or you can go to specific munches like a spanking one or a rope one or a pet play one.

Munches were something that started in the BDSM community. Groups of people meeting up in a vanilla environment for a chat, a drink and maybe something to eat.

I (Steve) was chatting to a very special lady in a swingers chatroom one night and she* wondered if the idea would translate to the swinging world so we tried it and the first swingers munch (afaik) was held at the White Horse in Carnaby Street in the west end.

Unfortunately the website we were on at the time (rhymes with mingingheaven) bastardised the idea over time with the whole thing going from a newbie friendly, inclusive social where people could go and chat with no pressure into an exclusive, invite only, location secret abortion where people that were members of other sites were barred from attending.

Something she would never have wanted.

* The lady never got to attend as she was too ill

Not quite the definition of Munch that I know, but then I'm not in the BDSM/Fetish scene where the term origonated I'm one of them swingers who borrowed the term munch and corrupted it to mean something totally different.

In a galaxy not far away, in the dim and distant past (2000 to 2005ish) before the dawn of Fabswingers there was a site so popular there was hardly a swinger who had not heard of it. The social section of it's forum positivly buzzed with activity hardly a month would go by with a munch occuring attracting 100's alas the evil empire of Symbios took over, the rebellion began and the site is fading into obscurity.

The swingers definition of munch is a gathering of like minded individuals in a private setting by invite only. Details of venues where only given to those on the guest list on the understanding they didn't reveal them to anyone so as to avoid 'unwanted guests' Guest lists where very much at the discretion of the organisers. Venues would be function rooms pubs, clubs (not swingers clubs) and hotels and often wouldn't have a clues as to the nature of the gathering, so most of the fun and frolicks would have to wait till you got to your hotel room or home.

Unwanted guests?

The munches and the swinging socials are usually open for all interested and are great starting points for newcomers to both scenes.

Not in my experience of munches

1. you had to be a member of the website.

2. If you wished to attend you posted on the forum thream asking to be put on the guest list. If you left it too late and they had enough on the list to fill the venue you went on a reserve list an hoped someone would drop out.

Quite a few Swingers munches had un wanted guests turned away as some of the attendees whould try sneak their mates in.

socials however where a bit more easy going.

Times have changed since the early naughties, I hardly see the term munch used when refering to a swinger event, it's all social whether its at a club or a somewhere open to all

Putting your name on a forum to be added to the headcount isnt invitation only.

The majority of bdsm munches seem to be open. I know one invite only munch that's really easy to get verified to attend. And a play munch that you need to be screened for.

Never experienced locals coming over to nose as someone said above. Maybe it's different for the swinging socials but munches are a great place for newbies. My first munch I met people that I'm still in contact with and see at events regularly. They were really essential for me as a new sub. I'd also recommend trying a few different ones.

It got sillier than that, some 'munch. organisers made people jump through hoops to get an invite. The whole idea originally was to make them as inclusive as BDSM munches and a way to encourage newbies to attend other functions by showing them there wasn't anything to be afraid of (something you still see with the "I'm too nervous to go to a club" posts and letting them get to meet people so that if they did then go to a club they would probably already know someone there.

The oddest Fetish Munch venue used to be a motorway services, often with a carvery meal at a pub up the road first for thoes who could make an early start.

The Munch is a really important part of the BDSM fetish scene.

I used to love the Munches. I was first introduced to them on A N Other site. I was a newbie, I put my name on the thread, and was told where to go nearer the date. They were very inclusive. But then I was a newbie, not an old timer who had seen everything change, so I could have been wearing rose tinted glasses.

I miss them hugely. The last one we had, we organised at Pink Punters as a memorial for a friend that had passed. It wasn't as big as they used to be, but it worked for us all to come together again.

the local scene and local chatrooms killed off the old style munches because new people became way more insular and don't travel the way we would do in the "old days"....

prime example of that now would have been on the same night you'd have social in yorkshire and a social in lancashire not 40 miles apart from each other... but the two rooms would not mix outside of there rooms....

in the old days, people would have knocked heads together.. organised them so they didn't clash and actually spaced them with regards to others so as many people could go as possible

no-cooperation any more, and the local groups are out for themselves....

we have that exact problem in the north east at the moment when its got to the point of being so insular its one of the reasons i have decided to not do anymore...

South Wales socials do just that they communicate with each other and arrange them on different dates spaced a couple of weeks apart

We used to travel miles for a Munch but at that time more people were attending and it was easier to arrange car shares and stuff.

Like Fabio said, they were arranged not to clash but after a while it got silly with people arranging deliberate clashes to prove that 'their' munch was more popular than someone elses.

A good weekend used to be the Birmingham Munch (BDSM though rather than swinging) on a Saturday afternoon followed by Ceasers (Sat night) and the BBB on the Sunday.

it may have been a notts munch those years ago..... i'll still never know hoe they managed to persuade a 3 level city centre pub to close on a saturday night (wish i had that gift of the gab....) but 3-400 people coming from all over the country made it all worth while.....

the fact that they weren't done as local events as were for the entire community was what made them so so special and why people were willing to travel....

as i said the advent of local chatrooms were the end for the big munches, because people then never left there own little bubbles......
