If you want to stay safe, abstinence is the only true choose of action.

Safer sex is not safe sex. The only safe sex is no sex.

Crikey! Stay safe people. "

Journalists bigging up something to get a story:

The reality is that anything that is treated with antibiotics, builds up resistance to antibiotics; and antibiotic resistant strains of diseases develop.

New antibiotics are being developed all the time; it just gradually gets harder to beat the bugs. No need to panic for a few years yet.

I would assume it was applicable to all antibiotic treated ailments as we're becoming resistant to them.

That was my take on it too. Scaremongering for the easily scared.

"wasn't a drug resistant strain identified a couple of years ago?"

It's a super strain but it is still treatable, they just use a different type of antibiotic to that which they treat the normal strain with.

Any bacterial infection has the potential to become untreatable due to genetic mutations.

So was AIDS at some point. And pet fleas were becoming resistant to flea treatment. We'll be looking at different ways of eradicating viruses and infections. I'm not a scientist so I don't know how but I'm thinking a mutation gene. This will trigger the advent of the zombie apocalypse and the end of humanity as we know it.

It's people not completing a course thinking its cured and it comes back that causes resistance

Unfortunately, new antibiotics are not being developed all the time. Up until recently, no new antimicrobial treatments had come on the market for around 25 years. The WHO describe us as being on the cusp of a post antibiotic era and if we don't do something to manage antimicrobial resistance soon, people will die of simple infections that were previously treatable...

1.yes; new strains of antibiotics are being developed.

2. The WHO report is basically correct, in overall terms, but there are serious flaws in the analysis of the timelines. ( most likely deliberate bias of the calculations to induce more research activity). The WHO has recently shot itself in the foot on several occasions in terms of credibility, through poor analysis and through allowing itself to be manipulated by vested interests. Part of this being due to nowadays going very little science itself, but using other research, much of which has not been properly reviewed.

3. On top of which; The WHO report has been very badly misquoted and misinterpreted by vested interests, and by scienticically inept commentators.

The post antibiotic era will never happen

All bacteria, viruses as well as big things like us are made of proteins, DNA/RNA etc and as such will always be vulnerable to being killed by things like antibiotics or other chemicals

Now whether we as a society have been arsed to develop them or not is another question, there's been loads of development in cancer because there's cash there, less cash in antibiotics so less development

It's more an issue of wanting to develop new things than not being able to

Does this not advocate a safe sex attitude to swinging or should one say as safe as possible, as in using condoms for penetration, know this is not 100% safe but surely better than totally unprotected sex.

I can't see it changes anything swinging wise, still nowhere near as serious as HIV which whilst testable is not curable, does make life more complicated for doctors though

From reading the news think they are worried it might be incurable in time or only able to control to a certain extent like HIV

Journalists adage is "never let the truth get in the way of a good story."

It's down to the individual to take in the information and make you own mind up, alarming headlines makes good "copy" so play safe as possible people and don't let the bastards grind you down
