I sometimes do go to church. I don't think it makes me any more "good" or holy than someone who doesn't but plenty of people on here have called me deluded, hypocritical or stupid for it. You're still allowed to slag off Christians, apparently. |

I think its more common for christians to slag off atheists than vice versa but maybe thats just my experience. Lets face it I dont think Ive ever seen an atheist standing in a high street shouting that all christians are idiots. But theres often preachers dotted about claiming all non believers are this that and the other and going to their non existant hell |

I think you're right - that's just your experience. Certainly isn't mine. You're doing exactly what I said right there - conflating a small number of radical Christian preachers with the vast majority of normal Christians who do no such thing. Thanks for proving the point so neatly |

I personally have no problem with anyone practising their religion as it does give a measure of comfort to millions across the globe. I think it is just slightly offensive to our british sensibilities when people are harangued about it in public. A persons relationship with their deity of choice is a personal one and should not be challenged or debated... |

Not at all that was just a small example of my point. My parents are both devout christians. Ive never once ridiculed their beliefs or disrespected them. I even studied religious education at school to try to understand them better and achieved an O level but all it taught me was that I was even more sure there is no god! You walk past churches and there are billboards telling you that you MUST believe that you NEED their beliefs. Tell me when you ever see an atheist billboard telling you you shouldnt believe ir how wrong you are?? Christians have throughout history tried to push their beliefs on others. The crusades... Atheists have been persecuted and outlawed through history. In this day and age its religions attacking each other while atheists simply go about their lives simply taking no notice of any of the religions not attacking anybody. |

My initial point was about this site but cool. I'm not convinced atheists are widely persecuted by Christians these days but you seem happy with what you've decided to believe (or not, as the case my be) so great. |

Apart from all the militant atheists who go around decrying the gods and beliefs of others...which is just as bad. Atheism is just another definitive position in the spectrum of religion, it is the definite denial of any 'god'.
I think you could mean agnostics. |

There are preachers because they rightly or wrongly believe they are trying to save you so that you will go to heaven when you die.
As atheists don't believe anything, it's a bit pointless them standing in the street as they're not offering anything.
As for churches, they're advertising what they are about on their billboards, just like shops advertise their wares.
You are able to walk on past and ignore them all you know |

I had the same argument with a preacher once who said I was agnostic. The difference is agnoatics are open to the possibility of a god but want scientific proof to accept or believe. While an atheist says there is no proof there never will be because there is no god end of story. Im the later. Im an atheist! |

And that is perfectly fine, as long as you don't try and force that on anyone who believes differently.
I fell out with my family as I refused to have my daughter christened when she was little. I would rather have her a good person than a bad christian. If however she decides she wants to be christened she will be making her own choice and I will fully support her in it. I would never make that choice for her. |

I firmly believe everybody is entitled to believe what they want and dont talk about it unless somebody brings it up. But if they try to tell me Im wrong I vehemently defend myself I hate people trying to force their views on me.
I agree 150% about christening none of my kids are christened nor will be till they are old enough to decide if they want to be. My eldest daughter goes to a COE school her mum sent her to after we split. They try to brainwash all the kids into believing so I simply tell her there are two views, the schools and mine and I tell her its up to her which she believes. So far Im proud to say shes following me |
