you could get away with that term, on here.
but most people prefer you not to describe yourself with words coz they'll make up their mind about what you are, you aren't allowed to say what you are. ![](/icons/s/razz.gif) |

Broken nose, half your teeth missing, huge thighs, huger shoulders, gruff voice, drinks pints of snakebite and lives in a rugby top. Doesn't actually play rugby ![](/icons/s/biggrin.gif) |

"Despite obvious appearances I'm one. Bit small and from the old school. Rugby at most levels is still a game for 15 oddly different shaped people. "
My grandson played a rugby match for his school last night. His teacher said he's a bit skinny to be playing up front (I know nothing about rugby positions) and he needs feeding up. He is very lean, with skinny legs and shoulders but runs like the wind. No matter how much he eats he can't bulk up. |

A Welsh rugby fan cut off his own testicles after his team beat England in April 2012, police confirmed at the time.
The man was rushed to hospital after the incident at Leigh Social Club in Caerphilly, South Wales, where earlier in the day he had boasted : "if Wales beat England today I'll cut ny balls off".
You may draw your own conclusions ![](/icons/s/rolleyes.gif) |

Before FAB 'rugby type' to me, meant exactly that....someone who played rugby so had a sporty physic. After FAB 'rugby type' can now mean, well anything.
I see it as the male version, of a females cropped picture, to get the best angle, to hide the bumps. If they say "I play rugby", their huge thighs and overhanging gut, won't be as prominent.
Or they could indeed play rugby,in which case, the term doesn't apply as they don't need to say what's evident. |

You have more of same build as a guy who watches rugby in the pub and last played rugby when you were 14 but still think, 2 decades later, this means your build remains rugby-esque.

Played rugby for years. Proper rugby though! not this 15 man game where they're more interested in hugging each other in a huge pile on the floor than passing or tackling.
However, since my retirement due to a few injuries I've taken up triathlons. I've lost about 3 stone in weight and would now be considered slim. However, I suggest a rugby type is a lifestyle and not a physique. |

True, as it takes real brains to 'pile on', to never have to run an angle, or time a run, to constantly run after a ball as the full backs play a game of kick tennis, and to win games my never scoring a single try. Hahaha |

Rugby Union players come in all shapes and sizes (especially in the amateur game).
I play with guys much fatter than the OP who can still run around for 80 minutes.
I played league in my youth, and started playing (union) again in my 30s. I play on the wing - so I guess I'm a Rugby player who isn't "Rugby build"... ![](/icons/s/mrgreen.gif) |

Just have a go - Rugby clubs are friendly places, the sport is all about the social aspect. I quit at 22 and came back at 33, so I was rusty to say the least! We had a lad join last year who was your age and had never played, his sport was judo and he is now getting some game time. |

If its something that interests you then go. Local clubs are always looking for new victims. Er no mean new players and its a very frienly social game too and you will learn the basic rules quickly

The way you described him, it may be better to play on the wing, tell him to try the wing, he'll have loads of fun there |

"There's lots or rugby type builds..

You look a rugby player to me OP...
I am / was a rugby forward... Prop or second row...
All about the thighs for forwards I think...
But you could be a back / winger, and they are going to be a totally different build
Let alone a scrum half... lol

Many seem to think that being a burly build is rugby player type when in actual fact they're more the beer belly type
I know I'm no skinny minny but I don't suggest I'm an athletic body type just because I swim regularly ![](/icons/s/2/cute.gif) |

"I shouldnt worry about it. Its a very fluid term - a bit like the Athletic option"
Very true .... East German Female shot putters in the 70's were very athletic - but not a turn on for many! |

What on earth are you talking about?
League is almost all set plays and it is quite complex - I find the plays in the backs in union much simpler, because generally the forwards and backs don't interlink in the same way that they do in league - you generally have a couple (or more if the forwards are being....well...forwards) of phases in the forwards in union, before they pass the ball wide. Also, the bloody kicking in Union really detracts from the game, IMO.
I have played both, by the way. |

"I used to know Wade Dooley so to me it means tall and too muscular for my liking "
I grew up in the same village as Tom Croft - I see him about occasionally when he's back home. He was a skinny little thing when he was at school, but now he blocks out the sun... ![](/icons/s/mrgreen.gif) |

You look in good shape and Rugby is a great sport. 26 isn't too old at all. Remember it's a winter sport though Brrrrrr |
