How has it affected you? ( and there may be an age difference here). I don't want to insult anyone's intelligence but since it tends to be very male oriented, does it make you feel either more entitled to or more interested in certain acts? For example, gagging, anal, dp etc?
For me, I am aware that men now expect things that virtually didn't exist when I was younger ( before the prevalence of internet porn), and as a woman I don't think it's a good thing. Women on those sites are paid to do things that are not for their pleasure but for the man's. There's no sensuality or spending time arousing the woman before penetration. Anal is portrayed as being just as easy as vaginal penetration ( which it really isn't ), and the things that really turn women on are largely ignored. I have no problem with seeing men and women have sex, it's very erotic, but to me, I feel most of the porn available online is neither erotic or realistic. And does a disservice to creating true mutually fulfilling sexual pleasure between people. Rant over. Any thoughts? |

Hi this is a really interesting post and I thank you for sharing. I don't think it has affected me as I am 43 but it is unrealistic you are correct. It's like a footballer scoring a hattrick and I'm a Sunday league footballer. On the other hand it does portray fellas as well as being unrealistic with some women who expect a ripped 9 inch plus stud who has 45 mins worth of stamina.

I watch porn but am often dismayed by the mainstream porn, which is all made to a perceived male preference for rather crappy treatment of women.
That's not to say I am against domination but I find the best porn is where all participants are enjoying themselves. For this, classic 80s and even 70s porn is often better than anything recent.
Also the few titles directed by women seem to be better. One of the hottest porn films I ever saw was "Crem De Femme" which is all female, in a couple of the scenes everyone really seems to be enjoying what they are doing.
I don't feel entitled to anything but occasionally porn has opened my eyes to something I hadn't thought of. |

Well Divine, that was deep!! I can see where you are with this. Generally women have very different views on porn and are a lot less visual. The porn I watch that does it for me, is the genuine homemade, I try to look for eroticism and gentle foreplay, and some homemade ones have it. To cater for my fetishes though, I just have to make do with the 'plastic' porn vids. X |

We use porn to a degree to get new ideas .
However , it's mainly amateur stuff , kinky and sometimes a bit taboo ....
The mainstream stuff was something we kind of grew out of a couple of years ago .
Can't see the harm in it though .

Something I find quite worrying is the obvious fact that many of the women in porn are not turned on and wet...the fact that they (or the man) will spit onto their pussy in order that penetration can be achieved....

Great post OP, and I fully agree. Mainstream porn feels that it is all about the male's pleasure....so often the man's face is not even visible because it's all about the viewer imagining HIS cock being sucked!! I really do think it skews the audience's views on female sexuality. And when that audience is adolescent lads in a world where porn is a click away....well, I'm worried for my daughters.

I watch porn every so often.
I find the professional sites/videos are fairly crude and pretty much just for the male performers benefit. The female gets nothing out of it in terms of pleasure really. Just a pay cheque.
It could also be said, that those videos show women like to be treated with a lack of respect and that it's all about the bloke, (which, in the real world, is false).
I prefer amateur videos over professional videos. They show both sides and has more sensuality. |

I don't watch porn much because I don't even get sexually aroused watching the majority of it. Not sure if that's because of my vast experience or it's so boring and predictable.

Was thinking about this as I was trying to find some ' full screen' porn the other day ( ie where you can see the man's face rather than a disembodied cock and I just couldn't find any! However I came across an interesting article which talked about why porn was shot the way it was, ie from a male POV and that the reason you don't see male faces is so for somewhat homophobic reasons and then it all made sense! |

I went off pro porn gradually as it is progressively less 'cheerful' - first there was the nasty/angry sex, then it became, as said above, more about humiliation.
I've therefore ended up preferring amateur porn, and the more recent category "female choice", (although I've no idea how female friendly it truly is).

I think porn can be very unhealthy if the watchers are impressionable, insecure or unsure of their own likes and dislikes.

Excellent post OP, I hadn't really thought about it that way!

I love different types and depending on my mood depends what I watch. There is also a section on x hamster called female choice and that has a lot of videos on that seem to build up to sex rather than jump into it. I do watch porn and I can find a whole variety enjoyable.
But I don't use porn as a playbook for sex anymore than I'd use a romantic comedy as an art of seduction technique, or an action movie as a step by step process for conflict resolution.

The old style porn used to have a semblance of a story line, even if it was pretty thin. "plumber fixing the washing machine" etc. there was an element of seduction and human interaction.

I think the porn industry will start to crumble, as people are becoming desensitised to the more hardcore things the porn companies and ultimately the girls will push and push until there is no boundaries left. As many have said it's the younger generation that will think this is all normal. Some of the hub/tube sites don't help as any age can access it.
I know when I was younger I thought all girls love anal, that was down to porn, on the plus I was proved wrong straight away.
Porn has other effects too for example as a guy I always thought I had a small cock due to the prob misconception that all cocks are long and hard.
