Are they essential for initial contact?
I guess it's probably advisable if you want a reply.But I'm a *private person,so don't want to send out loads of face pics if I'm not gonna be meeting someone...

For me, yes, for others no, we're all different with different criteria, the best thing to do is read the profiles - that's always a good start. Even if you don;t send a pic with your initial message but most people will need to see what you look like at some point. Some people don't need to see who they're meeting, nothings ever 'standard' |

I do always want to see a face pic but do understand that people might not want to send them until they're sure we don't know each other in our day to day lives.
There's no way I'd turn up for a meet and hang around like a lemon not knowing who I'm looking for when I get there. |

I meant on first contact,say if someone messages you or winks you.
Do you completely dismiss them if they don't send a face pic straight away?
Obviously if you've stated on your profile or asked and they haven't delivered,then fair enough.
Nobody in their right mind would meet without a face pic before a meet,surely?  |

Personally, I would only consider sending a face pic with the first message if the person I was sending the message to had their face pic in their public gallery.
To conceal your own face pic but expect a stranger to send theirs willy-nilly simply isn't reasonable. |

I think it's always a good idea to say that face pics are available if they'd like to be seen - either in your message to them or on your profile.
I wouldnt dismiss someone if I couldnt immediately see a face pic on first contact. |

I don't dismiss initial contact with no face pic, but as I think has been said before- I'd prefer one before we meet as I don't want to be standing around like a twat trying to work out who they are! |

Nothing is essential but its a known fact that not having them will reduce your chances by as much as 75%. Sending them by pm from private should be acceptable but everyone is different in their requirement criteria. |

I think a poster from the beginning of the thread got it right - everyone is different, if you state what you are expecting on your profile (and then STICK to it PLEASE!) then anyone contacting you, or anyone you are contacting knows what it is you want. I state quite clearly that pictures will NOT be exchanged, I have met 17 people off this site now with neither of us having seen a picture of any description, and, so far, all have gone well. However, I would never consider asking someone who clearly states that they want pictures, especially face pictures, to meet me.
If folks actually read through profiles that would help sometimes. You wouldn't believe the number of messages I have had starting "You look gorgeous in your photos...." |

while a face pic is only 1 thing, it helps to see if there is a physical attraction.. but yes a mental one is also required - which would be acquired through chatting before fun - but sorry tho he may be nice and friendly if he looks like shrek he aint getting anywhere near the contents of my knickers |

Some people want to see everything and know everything about you. That's their perogative. The idea of a little mystery is a no-no.

I agree.. The amount of times single guys have been in touch asking for pictures when there is no profile picture on there's.. It is all ways nice to see who you are talking to and we all ways send a face pic back if one is received. and it helps to see you are who you say you are. |

We would see one before saying yes to a meet but I don't expect to see one in the first message. After messaging and establishing we were up for it I'd be looking for one before saying a definate yay or nay. I can understand why people don't want to send them out willy nilly. |
