Evening Fabbers,

Just a little tester to you all. What would you all class as Athletic in the build category.

I have my own view and was wondering what the general concensus was. As some that say they are in my opinion they are not.

Muscly.

Not necessarily massive muscles but some definition there, even if they're fat or skinny as well.

Idk what that is?

I meant like they have to look muscly, but could be fat or skinny as well as the average size that people usually class as athletic.

Muscley is not athletic. You can be muscley and be two days away from heart failure from all the Steroids.

Athletic (or fit) is defined by your hearts ability to return to normal following exercise e.g. Fatima Whitbread

No fat, well toned - ie not just 'slim' but with a bit (not necessarily a lot!) of muscle definition.

No that is how you measure aerobic capacity.

Athletic is a purely subjective term and can cover the depth and bredth of the sporting world.

Specificity of training makes no form of sports fitness any less valid than another.

What about women?

I have 19 percent body fat, weight train daily and have a muscular build. But I have had a child meaning my stomach isn't as tight looking considering the amount of ab work I do daily. As a personal trainer I would more than class myself as athletically built. But under a lot of body building rules I wouldn't come close!

It's completely different for women on here. I'm curvy... But curvy as in hourglass shape not chubby curves. It's so open to interpretation. And nobody even looks at it, I don't anyway!!

I see skinny fat as those who are slim on the surface (i.e with clothes) but have a belly or are podgy.

They aren't people you'd look at and think 'he's fat' but really they are a bit.

and yes it is an actual term people use. I'm sure google would throw up some examples

Athletic..Interesting. Slim and toned. Curvey, full bodied an cuddly.

If your an Athlete then your athletic simples..If you train in the gym a couple of times a week an drink your protein shakes and take all the supplements on gods earth then your probably no more athletic an fitter than a anyone else who lives a healthy lifestyle, May look good but your not athletic far from it. Soon as you stop taking the sups your body carnt supply the mucsle with the protein its being fed an it turns into fat in a matter of weeks.

Take an athlete ask him to spend a day digging holes and he'd probably last an hour. Ask the builder to run a marathon and he'd probably struggle..

Putting Athletic on the site an sites like this is about selling yourself and promoting yourself the best you can. Vanity..

We all look good..Even if we carnt even run a mile or lift 100kilo..

Athletic to me is if you are toned and work out at least a couple of times a week.

I described myself as average but constantly told by women and couples that I should change to athletic.

It's subjective yes but so are all the body description choices.

I class myself as athletic as I have good muscle tone as a result of sport. But I wouldn't speak on anybody else's behalf about body shape or description as it's often how you feel as much as how you look.

Strange isn't it how different people interpret different descriptions in different ways - I've always perceived 'Fabulous' to be very large / super sized (for want of a better phrase) - a description which certainly doesn't apply to either of you. But of course 'Fabulous' can mean anything to anybody I guess? I'm not sure why I associate that word with that particular size, but I do?

Anyway, as you were ...

If they're skinny fat by the definition of it they art muscley or athletic.

They're fat around the torso and have no muscle on the limbs because they do nothing.

I'd say athletic is if you actually do some form of athletics /excercise/training so you arnt simply slim cause you don't over eat nut don't do anything active either

Not really protein shakes etc exist purely because it's cheaper and easier than eating a roast chicken in the changing rooms.

And muscle will not turn to fat if you don't eat enough protein it sill simply be broken down and the nitrogen used to maintain your day to day protein synthesis.

How about taking no supplements. eating propley and training hard. 6 times a week. More than 30-60 miles weekly running. Year after year an competing in races or events, to hard for most to even imagine putting that much effort in.. Thats Athletic..

Not someone who trains a couple of times a week takes every supplement he or she can to look the best. Thats ego an vanity not being athletic.. You agree? You just said the literal oposite to it 5 minutes before.

Aupliments are just that supliments someone going a few times a week will not need really need them because normal food will suffice someone doing what you describe as an athlete though will often use them because it just becomes too expensive or too impractical to maintain the diet.

"Muscly.

Not necessarily massive muscles but some definition there, even if they're fat or skinny as well.

What if they're skinny fat? Yes being "skinny fat" is a thing

What is skinny fat?

Beer belly and man bobs with skinny arms and legs"

That's not what skinny fat means. Skinny fat is metabolically obese normal weight - so a 'thin' appearance on someone but they still have a high percentage of body fat, generally as a result of poor diet and lack of exercise. It's thought to be just as unhealthy in terms of the body, risk of diabetes etc. as being obese in weight is. But because the message peddled is that it's only weight/BMI that's important, their potential health problems can be missed.

"Athletic..Interesting.

Soon as you stop taking the sups your body carnt supply the mucsle with the protein its being fed an it turns into fat in a matter of weeks..

Not really protein shakes etc exist purely because it's cheaper and easier than eating a roast chicken in the changing rooms.

And muscle will not turn to fat if you don't eat enough protein it sill simply be broken down and the nitrogen used to maintain your day to day protein synthesis..

I agree..

How about taking no supplements. eating propley and training hard. 6 times a week. More than 30-60 miles weekly running. Year after year an competing in races or events, to hard for most to even imagine putting that much effort in.. Thats Athletic..

Someone who trains to a high standered be it at the gym, swimming or lifting weights etc to competive level is an athlete an therefore athletic. Not someone who trains a couple of times a week takes every supplement he or she can to look the best. Thats ego an vanity not being athletic.. May look good but thats about it..Think the girls have it right.. Looking Fabulous

You agree? You just said the literal oposite to it 5 minutes before.

Aupliments are just that supliments someone going a few times a week will not need really need them because normal food will suffice someone doing what you describe as an athlete though will often use them because it just becomes too expensive or too impractical to maintain the diet.

"

Lol fancy a race..

Athletic on here is body shape, not what you do.

Froome would be slim even though he is one of the best athletes.

If you cant see muscles under your skin, don't click athletic.

Think those categories need changing tbh as I would class myself as stocky tbh but not fat, not toned either though.
