the one thing i get asked about alot is my large transcrotal. almost more then anything. it seams quite a few fellew FAB-ers like piercings and tattoos, but everyone has their limit on body modification (some people are more then happy to stick to make up, cutting of hair, and nails etc. all body modification)

so whats your limit? are you a collector? fancy one or two? or do you think its all bizzare and odd :D

I love tattoos on men and myself.

But I dont get piercings, I have met with guys that have parts pierced, they dont put me off.

I just wouldnt have anything (apart from my ears, which I have had done for many years) pierced.

piercings don't offend me at all...i guess it's up to the person and their reasons for having them

if it makes you happy you possibly wouldn't feel as confident without them, which would actually make you appear less sexy...if that makes sense?!

My daughter had this wierd thing done a few weeks ago, cant remember what its called now they are like perminent piercings, they kind if punch a hole out your skin and put a piercing bar with a disc behind it and the skin grows round and they dont come out, if you want them removing it requires surgery, she had several dont to form a pattern, to me i thought that was a little over the top, tho i have a few piercings myself mine can just come out, having to have surgery to remove them is going a bit far to me but then im told its cause im old lol

I guess everyone has a preference...it's no different to someone liking smokers or brunettes or tall folk...it's just another aspect.

totally uncool to call out in a club though and i'm sure that they will be the ones looking like knobs if they do that!

I have some tattoos and my ears pierced, used to have my nose pierced but it has closed up now. Can just about cope with a tongue or eyebrow piercing but piercings in intimate areas send me running for the hills.

i am diabetic and have had my nipples ad my clit hood done - i think its more to do with infection control as soft tissue wounds can take longer to heal in us 'betes

I prefer my playmates and dates tattoo and piercing free. That said I did meet a biker type once with tattoo, piercings including a Prince Albert.

Tattoos and piercings on woman are horrible and make them look cheap and common in my opinion, so I was devastated to see my daughters embracing body modification.

My eldest has two tattoos on her back, some Aztec disc design thingy in the small of her back and a design that stretches from one shoulder blade to the other and she has her navel pierced. Her boyfriend is a marine via the navy: don't need to say any more!

My middle daughter has a collection of tattoos on her back, stomach, arms, as well as pierced eye brow, navel, corner of mouth and six holes in each ear.

To think of all the hours spent rubbing Johnson's baby lotion into their beautiful skin for them to ruin it with ink!

Sigh...

no no, you'd be surpirced how fairly easy they are to remove, in simple terms, almost the same what they where put in, only in reverse. when i had mine removed, quentin (my piercer) found where the foot was (as the body has a habbit of moving most things under the skin) and roughly "massagerd" it, this is more then enough to break the small amount of tissue that grows between the holes then with a needle gentle pulled back the skin over the smaller part of the foot and pops it out, no blood, no scalple no tears :D

I wanted dermals in my back as part of my tattoo design. I wanted them as the eyes of my large dragon tattoo.

When I spoke to my piercer, he asked with a grin if I spent a lot of time on my back?!?! When I answered only when I'm being lazy, I prefer it doggy, he said they can easily get pulled out by having sex on your back.

And of course, there was the risk if my body rejected them, it would ruin the tattoo too. So I didn't have them done in the end.

yeah dermals on a back wouldnt be the best, same with hands/fingers sometimes wrists legs etc, basicly if it gets used. put into pockets, or clothes, it might not work. like i said i had tw in my chest and they lasted around 3-4 years. and that was with bumping and knocking from work, luckly it sounds like the piercer was a honest fellow, ive seen far to meny piercers put these into people, in unsuitable places and take their money for it.

hopfuly sometime next year i'll have enough money to get my subdermal implant in my nob :D nice little heart, very fitting i think

Yeah I trusted my piercer, and my tattooist too.

I've moved 250 miles south now, but won't see anyone else, I've got my back piece to be finished off, but I'm going to travel back north for the day, then come back again.

Can me old fashioned but I think this is far too extreme and all kinds of wrong.

I am horrified to think that "piercers and tattooists" are cutting open peoples skin, in a non sterile environment, not medically trained, and sticking implants in.

What about long term damage

What if the implants move around the body and end up near a vital organ

These testical implants - what about fertility - you're a 20 year old!

Surgeons cut open in a sterile environnment with infection control procedures in place - are you really happy to let a non medical person do the same to you in the back room of a tattoo parlour?

How are they sterilising their scapels?

Where are they storing sterile scapels?

Sorry Im just an old fuddy duddy but stuff like this, along with scarificiation is just a step too far

Im not against tattoos or piercings - I have my own belly button pierced and I have a tattoo on my foot. I asked questions though.

I asked about sterile equipment

I went to a tattooist who was happy to show me the equipment and measures taken in relation to reducing infection. None of it is foolproof. I could have got a nasty infection and it could have turned out very nasty.

But I would certainly draw the line at people actually cutting into fairly large areas on flesh, in a non sterile room, open wounds suspectible to airborne micro-organisms. Anything which involves blood shedding, its just too much of a risk

theres a bit of a differeance between "back of a tattoo shop" and a well stirle room, with medical grade flooring and air filtraion system.

single use scalples (not just the blade) doubled up on gloves (one pair of non strile, with an other pair on top that are strile, same as surgerns would use. plus what else should bee seen, an autoclave (infact my body modification artist has one that was made for silicone implants, it works at a hoter temp for longer)

but also keep in mind in regards to the more risky work i have had done (my transcrotal and subdermal i already have in my chest) quentin wore (as i said) two pairs of gloves, used a single use scaple i had the green paper stuff (the name has just left my mind) around where work was being done, he worn a resporater (not a little paper mask as surgerns would use) and a disposable pinny.

not forgeting that twice daily he'll clean the room top to bottom once in the morning and once after he shuts.

although yes they are "untrained" (what with the law being fairly grey area) but what you wouldnt know is that most body modification artists world wide (give or take a few who think they are gods gift) talk often and share ideas, and tips on how things are done, not to add a few of them make the some of tools used, the guy that invented subdermal implants started out making medical tools, so he aint no fool

i can understand your thoughts, i have seen some really poor work done people people who run before they can walk, most modification artists have been piercers for 15-20 years plus, and any modification artist worth his name will do everything in their power to be as clean and work as safe as they can, i mean after all, if they have worked as hard as they do to get a good rep, one bad result could ruin it.

as for the implant moving, well that is a risk of anything under the skin, in years gone past PTFE or metal where used and these would almost always move or worse "ware" away the tissue behind them, luckly those went out of use long before silicone came into use, its no more risky then a bob job, if anything less risky as the implants are much much smaller, and the opening hole cut is much smaller (for a 60mm by 60mm by 10mm implant the opening hole was only 20mm/25mm wide and much closer to where the implant will be (rather then some plastic surgrens who'll put in breast implants from an entry hole near the navel)

but yes theres always a risk, but to be honest, i would rather quentin put a silicone implant in me other a plastic surgen, for one quentin can (keeping in mind a few people (when i say a few i mean 4) people world wide make implants for subdermals, from medical implant grade silicone (same as used for breast implants) plastic surgrens would not do the things that quentin and other modification artist do, not because is to risky but because plastic surgrens think its all "dudgy" and "wrong" but are more then happy to give a woman breasts the size of a small car and lips the size of melons.

just because i couldnt see this one while writing the last :P

its not piercers and tattooists doing this kind of work, if a piercer is doing modification work, their problebly not doing it well, and if a tattooist is piercing, then their problely not that well too. modification artists are a whole other leval. an elite few are known the world over for their work (brian decker, samppa, steve hawtorn (who inveted subdermal implants/3d art) and quentin inglis to name a few)

as i said in my reather long post (sorry) its a far from non sterile room.

maybe not medicaily trained, but they do know their way around a body, they'll know what risks are there, and if its more major work, will see the area 1st before any work is done to make doubly sure whats wanted will work for that person, in that place

long term damage is the same as breat implants (when it comes to silicone implants anyway) there is a chance that the silicone may start to break down in 10 years, however that was with an olde rgrade of silicone that was never used by makers of silicone implants (was cheaper to use the older one for mass produced breast implants) other then that, 1 year on, no sign of movment, no sign of any irritaion, or swelling since the week after i had it done. the worst i have is a bit of scar tissue from the entry point (my bodys fualt for scaring like nothing else)

it wont end up near an organ, it sits inbetween layers of tissue, and due to the fact its silicone will move and flex with my body.

not quite testical (will be towards the base of my shaft) so no risk of fertility, if anything my transcortal was a bigger "risk" but anyway i dont want any children and will have the snip before im 25 and besides people who have lost one tesi for one reson of another (or those of have had a sex change) can have implants put into the sack. (mhmm 3rd tesical)

the rest i have covered, and having spent the closer part f a motnh at the start of the year visitng my local hospital i can say hand on my heart, his whole studio is cleaner, safer and more strile then that place.

Neither bizaire or odd..to each their own...it puzzles me why someone wants a fucking great coach bolt sticking out of their bottom lip or one of those 'holes' in their earlobes..and im more than puzzled why a guy would want a curtain ring through his japs eye...but thats about it really..doesnt make them weird or odd in my book.

As for tatts...some can be really nice, works of art..others like chinese symbols, stars behind the ears, celtic bands, tribal etc and that scribble on the inside of the hand, the cheryl special...and done because they are fashionable (at the moment!)..or because they want to look 'ard' is not the best of reasons.

Its like the old punk thing of the late seventies...they all wanted to wear certain clothes because they wanted to 'look different'...then someone realised by all trying to look different they all ended up looking the same...there is nothing original about them.

Do the chinese have old english heraldry on their arms?...do maori warriors have pictures of fucking chas an dave????...

That said..I take my hat off to anyone who does have them done...good luck to em..one, I couldnt handle the pain!...2..I respect anyone who will do anything I wont..

Thank good we are all different

have to laugh at the chas an dave idea :P

im glad you see it in the same light as i do, ok i maybe very into it all, but there are some parts that really bug me, one of them is poor tattoo work (or just picking off flash off a wall)

i have few at the mo (ok you could say two, but i like to say 6 and half hours worth) that will become part of a whole leg of work, one is a number of shells (i have a thing about shells) and the other is based on a key that is owned by a friend of mine, its victorain and has a swastika on the end and has a swastika pattern around it (hopefuly everyone now should know the ture meanings of the swastika? if not google it, learn something, you may be very surpised to see just how meny times it'll pop up in everyday life, good luck items, buildings and religon, all before mr hitler ruined it for most of the west) but one day (when money permits) it'll all be one large tattoo

thank you for all that information, it was really really interesting, thanks for taking the time.

You certainly have done your homework and the guy who performs this work on you sounds excellent, so thats really good. It is the ones that are bad that give the whole profession a bad name. I admit to not knowing anything much about body modification, but I do know that tattooists and piercers are not regulated in the same way as hospitals are and they dont have to have the same stringent infection control procedures in place. I think they should do.

I knew of a tattooist who used to put back any unused ink into the big vats that he had. Imagine that, tattooing someone, putting their needle in and out of the little pot of ink they were using, and them tipping back that ink into the big vats so not waste any - its that kind of ignorance really that is a danger. Thats why they should all be regulated to the same standards and have audits regularly.

I expect you have seen, as I have, tattooists and piercers setting up caravans in large markets to do their work. Who in their right mind would ever go and have that done. Responsible people like yourself will get as much information as possible and go to the best and expect to pay the costs involved for that, some people just think of cost alone but a back street job will cost them so much more in the long run if they end up with HIV.

Thank you for enlightening me to it all

"My daughter had this wierd thing done a few weeks ago, cant remember what its called now they are like perminent piercings, they kind if punch a hole out your skin and put a piercing bar with a disc behind it and the skin grows round and they dont come out, if you want them removing it requires surgery, she had several dont to form a pattern, to me i thought that was a little over the top, tho i have a few piercings myself mine can just come out, having to have surgery to remove them is going a bit far to me but then im told its cause im old lol"

got one in the back of my neck its called a dermal.... had 3 on my leg as well around a tatoo but tore them out when i was working... didnt need surgery lol ..

Is it true that some of these modifications require surgery to remove them. If that is the case, doesnt it make it a very expensive hobby?

yes and no, while things such as dermals dont need surgrey to remove, some piercers will charge for the removal (understandable if they didnt put it in, but if they put it in they should be happy to remove them, if they can.

but subdermal implants would need to be surgergly removed (by the person who put them in, if done right) as well as things such as ear lobe reversal, or if i wanted my trascortal closed up etc but those would have a fee due to the fact time would be needed for such things, and the amount of equimpment used etc

yeah it can be a very expensive hobby, luckly i often get "mates rates" or i'll make him jewellery as a PX i dred to think how much ive spent, but i normaly live off 2-3 piercings/modifications a year.

tattooist often cut corners when it comes to hygine its a sad fact that most studios live with out an autoclave and rely on rubbing alchol, mostly due to pre claved' grips, but that often leads to other corner cutting habbits, if a tattoo studio has an autoclave, and uses it, cable covers, fresh gloves for set up, fresh gloves agin to the sitting and a cert from the local council saying that the studio is clean, and other paper work such as 1st aid (thats upto date) plus cross comtanation certs, etc etc then they problebly a good clean studio, but then im bised in my ways, if a studio has flash on the walls, it probley cuts corners where ever it can, if they are a custom only, with months long waiting lists, not only are the artists working their of high standard, they will also be a clean studio to get work in.

near the sounds of the wimborne quarter jack!

I personally wouldn`t have anything done. I did consider having an ear piercing but counted it out on safety grounds as I`m forever having to put my head into tight spaces etc. at work and I was worried about catching the piercing and ripping it out or getting an infection due to working in a dirty enviroment. Same with nipple piercings. Heard a story about a guy playing football who had his nipple split after being hit by a football!

I done mind a few select piercings or discreet tatoos on ladies. Nothing too drastic!

Its always best to go for the best you can afford and save up as its important to get it right and to know the piercer etc and be sure that the environment is up to standard. I think its right that a fee is charged to remove, they have to make a living etc. I didnt know whether it had to be removed by a doctor.
