Is it generally frowned upon by hotels? Other hotel guests?

To be honest, if I was there with my kids, I would not like it ... when we have booked hotels, always been careful to find ones with a more discrete entrance. I think that helps? Just my opinion.

Depends on the hotel but I can't imagine its an activity the majority of chains encourage.

Keep the noise down, don't wreck the room and don't nick the towels.

When I was a receptionist in welcome break which is now a days inn I think? It's a budget hotel anyway, loads of shaggers used to use it but sometimes families needed to stay there and I'd try and put old people and families all on the same floor and corridor because I wouldn't like to hear people fucking if I was there with my child. I think if you're in a public place you should be mindful to the people around you who don't want to hear that sort of noise.
