It's an old joke that the forum regulars still throw about. It's not meant to be offensive towards gay or bisexual people. It's more about upsetting homophobes and bigots.

i fully understand when its a joke, but then what might be deemed as a joke may not be seen as one, a dont really mind tbh, but i dont care for when a post a comment and the next one attached referes to oh best not might catch the ghey

That's the problem with reading. A sentence can be taken in many different ways on the tone it's read aloud in. Personally I don't take offense to anything, even directed at me personally, not that that happens much, mainly because I couldn't/ wouldn't give two fucks. My time is too precious to wonder if what somebody has said could possibly offend someone, somewhere someday.

Personally I think you should probably just lighten up a bit.

Failing that report every post that mentions 'the ghey'.

Catching the ginge is much much worse. Once it's in your family there's no getting rid of it for generations.

It's nice you have a mate that's not a gingephobe.

Haha . ; he like to recount to me things he's read on the t'web...

"Did you know in Croatia it's customary , to turn on the spot three times and spit on the floor , if you pass One in the street..... Also did you know there was a time you weren't aloud on boats"

Bless him ; he loves me really lol

Laughing about a topic shows that the laughers are comfortable with it and have no problem with whatever they are laughing about if it is self deprecating like "catching the ghey" undoubtedly is.

As for the instances when people just wheel it out after any comment, that is just shit humour. It is not meant as offensive. It is just misjudged and not awfully funny but it is unlikely to be homophobic.

It is a glib reference to the morons who think/thought that being gay was curable. And in itself casts light on homophobia.

However there are some people who seem to take their homosexuality very seriously and are not comfortable with humour in that regard. I would suggest that they need to change more than the users of non bigoted humour do.

The ones who constantly warn people about catching it usually have a touch of it but, as someone said in another thread,if someone finds it offensive it is offensive.

I would argue with the principle of that. Otherwise we would struggle to say anything as someone will take offence to almost anything.

There are occasions when some people need to be helped to see the bigger picture or in some rarer cases get over themselves.

If someone has an insecurity which is unusual or extra sensitive then a polite person would not seek to pique that insecurity deliberately. However if they said something which was perfectly acceptable and someone took fright afterwards or even at the time. The orator should not be censured for saying something which was not out of turn. The offended party should be helped to see why actually there is no point being offended by something so mild.

It's about laughing at the sort of people that are so uptight they get upset by other men looking at their profiles. The whole point is that you can;t catch the ghey and that people shouldn't be bothered about other's sexuality Not sure how anyone can be offended by it

So it;s the posters behaviour that annoys you, not the post?
