I'm just curious. I'm browsing profiles and I was wondering why some people seem SO against winks! Even to the point of saying they'll block people who wink at them!!!
I get that a message is better, and some may see winks as being lazy, but are winks *really* that offensive?
I personally don't mind them, it's a nice easy way of seeing someone's profile if they like me! |

No biggie. Flattering to receive. Fun to send as a nod to a nice profile or if we fancy the person/s
Some folk get waaaaaaaaaay too wound up over something that's for the most part, just a bit of fun |

"I sometimes send a wink if I like the profile but I don't really wink that often as quite a few profiles are against them "
I use that as a filter. Someone that gets so wound up over a wink is not going to be the sort of person I could imagine wanting to spend time with. I'm here as a way of having fun and relaxing. |

We personally don't mind winks, it's just a way of saying "we'd be interested if you are".... If the winker's profile doesn't appeal we just ignore them. On the other hand, we will always reply to a message. Plus... We've had messages before which have peaked our interest when their profile hadn't. If these people had winked, they would have missed out.

Those types of profiles do put me off somewhat aswell as they seem way too over the top serious, I like the fun side and mutual humour, conversation and sometimes flirting |

I tend to use them in situations where I have difficulty finding the words to put in a message.
For example if a profile has very little in it.
There might be something within their limited profile that has got my attention, but if there are no profiles and/or about one line of text, there isn't much to go on and so they might get a wink. If they wink back, I might message them asking for more info, pictures etc.

I'm with you on this, I like to receive a wink every now and then (not that it happens very often)
I can sort of understand some people thinking its lazy but yeah, an instant block just because someone winked does seem a little OTT but it's their prerogative of course!

Sorry...I meant "wank"....
(Way to hijack my own thread...)
But on a serious note; some very interesting responses. I'd be happy to see someone who IS completely against winking put their two penneth in, also. |

I think the difference is that women, couples, TV/CD's get loads and delete them. Men get few and appreciate them. So due to guys liking them when they get them they presume a good initial communication tool (icebreaker), other don't use as they are flooded so presume others delete also.
It's a self perpetuating triangle
Personally I like and use them..... but I'm a bloke |

We don't look at them, we sometimes look at people who have fabbed pics but if either of those wanted to actually speak to us they would message so I guess they are just 'like your pics or profile' people |

We always look at our winks but prefer a message.... But must admit if we see a nice profile will send a wink ... Especially if we think we are looking out of our league and want to test the water |

not far from iceland,,,,,, tescos is nearer though :-) (near leeds) |
I'm happy to receive a wink... Although I never intentionally send winks, I've always thoughy if a profile interests me enough to contact them the small investment in time it takes to draft a message is an investment I'm prepared to meke |
