I am bereft. I have never had a cold sore before yet at my grand age (!) I find myself with my very first one.

Has anybody found anything useful? Mediation, cream, any weird and wonderful things?

I got one of those electronic zappers from Boots, a bit pricey but definitely clears them up faster.

Tried to private mail but youve restrictions on. Don't drink from chipped mugs, use cold sore cream it helps and try not get stressed! My lips are all out broken because of changing jobs had the creams and such and it's just a pain. Oh constantly wash your hands if you touch it as it's easily transferred to other places.

Zovirax is a trade name, you can get aciclovir cream, which is the generic name for the active ingredient, from any chemist. Much cheaper and just as effective.

Also avoid anything with citric acid such as tomatoes or fruits, the virus thrives on it and will make them worse.

There is a website that has a lot of information about herpes. Can't remember the name but have a Google. They advise to put ice on the site at the first tingle and that aciclovir only works if you catch it early. There was lots of other stuff on there that was quite interesting.

Compeed patches.

As soon as they raise, use them. Coldsores heal within around a week!

Check your diet. My ex had them. Avoid nuts and citrus. Moderate alcohol intake. Try zinc and lysine supplements.
