catfished!

So I was on an online dating site over summer, different to this, and had been chatting to this girl since the Christmas before, then she went silent and then she got back in touch. She was everything I thought I wanted, beautiful (from her pics), clever, (she was 'investigating dark matter'), financially stable (which meant she had her own flat in central London, and knew about luxury brands, tickling my slightly posh side), and just... Seemed amazing. I never met her,but I fell in love with the idea of her because I'm stupid... She 'went to Italy' in august, and she told me she needed space, so I stopped whatsapping. I'm sad because she seemed amazing ...

until! I'm going through my phone this morning, and see 'her' number come up, with a picture of a guy in the contact screen! It sounds stupid and please don't be like 'you should have met him/her before!' but, without sounding cliched it felt so real? Now I'm uber suspect of anyone.

Has anyone ever been catfished?

Bless you Hun! I really don't get why people do things like that! I've had similar things but I've picked up on it before it got too far xx

So sad that you've been a victim of this - it's lousy and it hurts...

I got caught by profile on a lesbian site, everything was right, style of writing, the whole thing...

But slowly I realised, and had to back off - and the memory still hurts.

You can usually spot them a mile off on here, but the people who do it are small-minded, vicious and totally despicable - utter scum-suckers!

Big hugs and sympathy...

Could that possibly be one of those fraudster types?

They usually build up a big story of wealth, comfort & life style - which crashes & results in them asking for small amounts of money!

It's just a thought

I thought that as well but no, she never asked for money, 'booking' a fancy holiday in madrid... 'she' knew all about Alex McQueen and Prada etc all couldve been discovered from a quick Google... The writing was exactly like a girl too, just a total mind fuck!

I chatted to a lesbian for months. I figured out she was a man early on but carried on chatting as s/he was nice and it was good fun. I eventually told him I knew his secret and he stopped chatting which was a shame. Didn't bother me at all, I even told him I'd be happy to carry on chatting to 'her'.

It's sad guys do this! it's hard enough being a single guy in a world where the females have the pick but people love mind games and the internet is full of them.

Just be yourself try not to think all profiles will be catfish but I'm sure your talk or video chat at an early stage now from experience.

My personal suggestion is not to do it... because if it was a game to them from the start, this will just empower them to in one way or another to potentially lie to you or make you believe that the picture is of someone important to them but they are definitely into you... and you might with the best intention believe them and fall deeper into the game... I know this because I have been there... just a suggestion though... hope you are not offended with what I said... don't feel silly for feeling the way you did and do... you were genuine...they were not...

When we got chatting, she was just about to go to Italy and I wasn't in the mood to skype then, we'd been talkin for like three days, seemed a bit eager... so 'when she went to Italy' the 'house she was staying at had poor wifi' as 'it was in a tiny village by the sea' and by the time she 'got back', they'd decided to stop talking to me. So yes, silly me but also no, not silly me.

pmsl - I get it all the time .. my favourite was one where I was invited to cam .. the guy was saying his wife was on the bed and wanted to see my cock before meeting. I asked to see her, he said she was shy, I asked to see a little of her. At which point - believe this or not, he tired to reach out of the view of the cam lens and wave!

Another from a 'woman' inviting me to a gloryhole, I backed out saying my luck you would probably be a man. It was all kisses and kind flirtation up until that point, the reply was a blokes handshake of a reply, 'probably wise' or something.

The good side of this OP is, at least you dont have a cock. The advantage of have a pussy is enormous for getting meets

Me too, although recently met up with a woman who the first time she contacted us, we rejected her because we assumed she was fake! No verifications or photos in her profile!

I think after being on here for a while, when you're very aware of the amount of fake profiles and time wasters you become somewhat immune to catfishers. If someone isn't willing to verify they are who they say they are within a couple of weeks chatting, they aren't worth wasting any more time on them.
