Seen quite a few woman with cucumbers and fruits in the orifices, so maybe they are veggies.

Or are they just getting their 5 a day.

"I really don't understand why one would actively choose to be vegetarian, I'm very happy with my healthy, mixed and varied diet."

It takes a lot of energy to produce meat. If we all ate less meat, the demand on the world's resources to produce food would be less. You can still get fats and proteins into your diet without eating meat.

I'm not vegetarian but love vegetarian food.

It's widely recognised that the production of crops costs more in terms sentient lives than the production of meat....

Pest control, poisons, for mice, rats, insects etc both in the field and around grain/food stores etc kill literally thousands of creatures per acre

Pest birds such as pigeons are regularly shot

....also grazing fields hold a higher number of species and individual creatures than a single crop field will as the crop field is devoid of much variation which in turn means it supports far fewer species, plus the crops are regularly blasted with poisons etc making them fairly toxic and unfriendly environments to insects mice and small birds, whereas grassland isn't....planting crops using modern methods creates a a fairly unfriendly environment and costs many creatures their homes... hedgerows are often removed to make more room for crops, thus robbing creatures of their homes and natural 'corridors' in the countryside, areas for nesting for things like the grey and red leg partridge (who's numbers are suffering) nesting and breeding for countless small birds is lost,

Crops are much more highly damaging to the bird insect and animal populations than meat production....and that takes into account the crops needed to raise the meat....

Calorie for calorie, meat does cost a lot less individual lives than crops.....

Most people don't equate that though as they don't see the big picture....only what appears on their plates.

It's a common misconception held by a lot of ethical vegetarians that eating crops saves the lives of creatures....it actually costs more...you wouldn't think so eh...

So what do we feed all those animals on?! They will eat crops that have been grown somewhere so according to what you're saying, meat production is worse as you've got the impact of the transfer of energy loss (basic physics) and the impact crop production.

That's factoring in what we feed them oddly.

Sialage and hay is basically just grass and it's treated so minimally...in fact I don't know of any farmer that sprays his feed grass much of anythibg

Those fields are abundant with life compared to say a wheat crop just because of the range of grasses and plants in there...its rarely just grass alone.

..so yeah, a huge amount of the feed we grow is very pro life as opposed to single strain crops.

And I dunno much about basic physics, I don't claim to be that bright...

But if you count up the individual one by one lives...birds, insects, rats, mice etc etc....crop production and storage is ruthless in comparison.

I can't remember the half of it but we looked a lot at it...camparibg farming methods and crap years ago when I did my dip in wildlife management...

It does stack up if you add it all up...I'm not being all anti vegi....

So where do you live that the life stock only eat the food on the land where they are grazing

Peta quote

It is inefficient to grow grains and other feed crops for animals—only a fraction of what we feed them is actually turned into flesh that humans can eat. The vast majority is used by the animal to live and grow. The highly respected Worldwatch Institute says, “In a world where an estimated one in every six people goes hungry each day, the politics of meat consumption are increasingly heated, since meat production is an inefficient use of grain—the grain is used more efficiently when consumed directly by humans. Continued growth in meat output is dependent on feeding grain to animals, creating competition for grain between affluent meat-eaters and the world’s poor.”

Anyway he only asked if there were other Veggie swingers on here - Oh and yes we are

And of course I'm talking about grazed annimals...not indoor intensively farmed ones...

And I'm on about Britain....it changes depending where in the world you are...say in south America it's different as in places grazing has replaced vast swathes of jungle in places...obviously nor as pro life...

We only looked at Britain for my dip...

Not to mention the unbelievable amount of methane produced by livestock!!! Goodbye ozone, hello skin cancer and global warming.

According to the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations:

"The livestock sector is a major stressor on many ecosystems and on the planet as a whole. In Britain for the most part our annimals are grazed, and fed hay and sialage in the winter months.....

Growing the grass to produce them is extremely pro life, as are the meadows we graze them on for the bigger part of the year.

Your argument stands for intensive meat production, things like chicken farms.....

Not really for grazed annimals.

I don't have ferrets, just my guns and a dog, but there's nothing quite like procuring your own meat whether it's rabbit, pigeon, duck, pheasant, squirrel or deer.

It's becoming a lost art, thankfully my kids have grown up with it and are also skilled providers. It also teaches them to respect their local wildlife and environment.

It's also very low impact as we never shoot what we don't need and things like pelts have other uses too.

Yes it is...

But the stress isn't as great as that placed upon the land by bulk arable farming, hedges removed for bigger fields, single crop focus on the land, zero diversity, mass spraying of insecticide, and herbicide wiping out the base of an ecosystem, poisons for rodents....dying in a most horrible way....that's on a single farm.....the cumulative damage of grazing or grasslands for cutting is way less acre for acre

"I couldn't imagine life as a vegetarian. I hunt and fish much of my own meat as it tastes far better and its more sustainable although I have no choice with certain meats other than to buy them from my local butchers or farmer.

I have a great love of animals but I just cannot imagine life without eating meat. I take my hat off to those who can.

Exactly this....nothing better than a December day with my ferrets, coming home with two or three rabbits for the pot

I went for years with my dad....I shot with a lovely side by side 16...English gun, can't remember the maker off hand..that was a pleasure...

Not been for some time now....not sure if I'd still have my eye in...."

If you had it it comes back quickly and naturally. On the off season I shoot competitive long distance (1000m+) that takes work whereas course shooting is usually a breeze.

"I really don't understand why one would actively choose to be vegetarian, I'm very happy with my healthy, mixed and varied diet.

I have a healthy mixed and varied diet

I also care about animals and don't think my diets is worth the slaughter of animals, I can live quite happily without anything having to die for me so choose to do so, what is there not to understand that some people care about life in general

It's a common misconception held by a lot of ethical vegetarians that eating crops saves the lives of creatures....it actually costs more...you wouldn't think so eh..."

Not really bothered about the cost, I grew up on a farm, we had a slaughter house just down the back lane, the noise of pigs going to slaughter will haunt me for the rest of my life, I used to sit and cry as a child at the noises that came out of that place

I decided at a young age I couldn't be part of that so stopped eating meat

For me personally its as simple as that

Some people see a dead animal and it`s meat as just a meal. When I see meat I see a dead animal which had certain intelligence, feelings, emotions and didn`t want to die any more than anyone or anything else.

"So where do you live that the life stock only eat the food on the land where they are grazing

Complete rubbish - the countryside has been striped bare by over grazing - Anyway as Mr Shaw once said - Animals are my friends and I never eat my frinends

I wouldn't date a meat eater.

Of course, a casual hookup is a different issue, but I couldn't imagine being involved with someone with significantly opposing views - it's too important an issue for me.

Once had a meet with a guy who owned a 'beef' herd. Found out afterwards, but don't think I would have met him.

So much cognitive dissonance over meat, it beats you down. Would I meet a known kitten killer? Never. Meat eater? Of course, everyone I know eats animals.

How did you survive in the army being veggie for 16 years? You definitely deserve a medal!

I`ve been a veggie for 20 years, and back then it was harder being veggie than now.

I was a veggie for 13 years, now reverted back, but still love veggie grub. I have to say i am sure i was healthier and hardly ever went down with the usual cold/bugs etc and i still fit in a 32'' waist which i am sure would not have happened had a scoffed meat

I bought all my kids up meat free, my eldest is a vegan now, my middle one now eats meat and my youngest is vegaterian, all my kids are fit and healthy and never had any heath issues besides normal kids problems

People used to accuse me of pushing my views on my kids when I wasn't I just fed my kids what I ate like every other parent, meat eaters feed their kids meat and that fine none meat eater don't feed their kids meat and your making choises for your kids and forcing your opinion on them

Soon as they were old enough they made their own choices and one of them now eats meat and that's fine its her choice

"I used to be vegan, but just found too restrictive, especially when eating out. I love a good salad..but...

Cath is a vegan...

I don't do milk but I do eat eggs but only totally free range eggs from the farm, mainly because they are a totally natural produce the chickens will lay them regardless of you eating them or not, so as long as they are off the farm and the chickens are happy I'll eat them

I think though the chickens were hoping to raise a family rather than fill your tummy?? Lol "

You do realise that if a eggs not fertilised there is no family to raise don't you

where I get my eggs from there are only females therefore the eggs are unfertalised it's basically a chickens period it's a discharged unfertalised eggs

the chickens lay anyway but if it's unfertalised it will just lay there and rot which seems a waste to me, I don't eat dairy as I don't agree with the dairy industry, I don't eat shop eggs even free range ones as they aren't totally free range by law they only have to be out their Penn for an hour a day to be allowed to be sold as free range and I don't agree with penning animals up, but the farm eggs I buy the chicken live free to roam about the farm and the eggs are unfertalised so I just see them as a natural product the chickens will lay regardless without suffering in anyway

that's my take on it anyway

Not many people realise it, but will chickens cannibalise their own discarded eggs and actually get nutrients from them.

I didn't know this myself until recently, but it strengthened my position against using backyard hens.

I don't think anyone said it does - you have to be level 5 for those benefits.

However it's always better to connect with people who share your values and don't treat other sentient beings as food.

It's wasn't that bad, although at the start it was a bit grim with some meals consisting of just carb (spuds/pasta) and vegetables but it got better. you did get a veggie choice on base and there was always a veggie choice with the ration packs (as no one else picked them you could always swipe a few more).
