On the back of another thread, I'd really like to ask all you lovely slim/athletic ladies (or men) the following:
Have you ever had a nasty message about your physique?
I ask as we have. I'm a 'large' woman - say so on our profile - and, in the past, we've had comments on my size. I also know of other women who have been mailed out of the blue such things as "Why are you on here, you're too fat!"
I'm really interested in your answers. This isn't intended to get at any specific body type, just a bit of Saturday afternoon curiosity

Not about my physique , but I got chatting with a young lady , we swapped numbers and she asked for a face pic ,I explained I was at work , dirty sweaty and unshaven , and wearing a ridiculous deputy dawg hat , she said it's ok just send one , so I did , my response was "are you taking the piss" and instantly blocked on phone and fab |

In the 2 years I've been here and 100s of messages, I've only once had a rude message about my "fat stomach". It's not inaccurate, but I already noticed I had one!! |

Yes, lol, some people think you don't notice your own body type
The one nasty message we've had was because I turned him down. Funny, he was up for a larger lady in his first message!

The only time ive had a nasty message over my weight is after politely turning someone down and they obviously didnt like that I did so throwing a fat insult back was the easiest form retaliation for them to take. |

"over the years, I have seen awful things said in the forum about larger & slimmer ladies. Just awful stuff.
So, it will happen in messages."
Yes, but does it happen to those of a slimmer body type? That's what I'm asking. Do they receive messages saying things like, "urgh, you're too skinny!"
For some reason, some people like you to know they think you're fat, like you didn't know in the first place! Lol.
As I say, just curious.

I've only been on here a couple of weeks but, I'm not exactly my universe, I have a bit of a beer belly, but haven't had any nasty messages about my physique, although my pics don't really show my belly that much.
At the end of the day, I am what I am and yes I'm trying to trim myself down and lose a little weight but if people can't accept you for the way you are, then that's there problem not yours. |

From rejection comes vitriol which subsequently highlights inadequacy.
But no nasty messages re body type. We have had some knobbers get nasty and send some abuse about something or other. Can't remember what it was though as we are too busy being awesome to notice. |

Yes I have! So not just the bigger ladies get them, I was subjected to rather a few unpleasant messages from a so called doctor, accusing me of being anorexic and to get myself checked out.
Not just the one message but a long line of them pointing out that a woman my age should not look like I do.
Funny thing is, my own doctor has never shown concerns over my weight! |

Why? Why rake it up here rather than putting it down to what it was....a bad loser and just forget it. Won't change what they said no matter how many people have been insulted ....dont know why anyone would give that kind of person the time of day by opening a post about them |

Thank you. You've put my mind at rest. I really was beginning to think that people just liked to harass larger ladies, but your post proves that it DOES happen to all shapes and sizes.
I see it happening to all sorts on the forum, but I was specifically interested in messages received.

Curiosity! Simple as.
If you read my replies to individuals you'll hopefully see what I'm getting at.
We've been on fab for two years in total and only had the one nasty message, so I'm not too upset, lol. It was horrid at the time, but we saw it for what it was.

Oh yes, I've had them - and I'm not really slim, just average.
Been told real men like curves not bones (funny he wanted me before I said no) and that I look unwell, and should eat a few pies to get the fellas.
Also been told I'm too vain to meet as I'm obviously obsessed with food, looks and the gym to stay in shape. |

Yes - I've often had really nasty comments about my profile - usually in this pattern...
A crude first message from someone that I don't know - usually outside my interest range and with no profile of their own - telling me that I'm fabulous and that they want to use me...
A response from me saying No thank you...
Followed by a stream of abuse from them saying that I'm a xxxx old xxx, and they didn't like me anyway...
I don't suppose that I'm the only one who gets this?

I'd also say it's not just replies to messages.
Have you noticed how a lot of people seem to start arguments on threads for no apparent reason?
They don't have anything to say, just seem to like having a pop at whatever the OP is saying.

TBH I've just read that thread and you didn't receive any inappropriate advise at all.
You were told to do a profile as a 1 liner will never work on here if you are looking to attract females.
Also, women want to see what you have to offer, not pics of a previous conquest. |

Nothing nasty about my body but plenty of nasty replies. I was called a ginger pensioner on another site lol, that made me laugh.
It is possible to have nasty things said to you whatever your size, it doesn't hurt less the slimmer you are. People will use whatever they can to try and insult you. |

Oh yes. I have seen loads.
Saying things like,
If you were so and so, such and such wouldn't have happened to you etc. utter nobodies who think putting other people down will elevate they themselves . They are the real losers. If I start a thread and see such responses, I simply ignore them. |

Obviously my username gives away my body type but because of that I do get a lot of men who only like bigger women messaging me. When I read their profile I sometimes see horrible comments about slimmer women so I imagine it does happen just as it does in the outside world.
I think sometimes people care more about those who are called names because they are big as opposed to those who are slim but it hurts everyone the same (if it does hurt, some of us obviously don't care). I've never heard of a big person messaging a slim person asking "why are you on here, you're too skinny!" though x |

But I have also had abusive messages from people I have never spoke to in the past never mind rejected them.
It seems that because my profile and preferences exclude them, that is enough for them to justify the hate mail.
But I'm big enough and ugly enough as they say to ignore. So it transpires that it doesn't matter what size you are on here, you just need a thick skin to let them roll off |

Thank you. Yes started with the divorce diet... and being bored at home - so I started doing an exercise DVD, loved the changes, and then when I got down to a size 18, started going to classes and the local gym. Now have 2 gym memberships, so I can go on work days too. Really enjoy it, and have recently passed as a gym instructor and doing another teaching course in april. |

I think I might have had a random "boobs are too small" type comment.
That's about it. I think it was on the forums though.
I wonder sometimes if guys take the words "no thanks" really nastily. It could be taken badly I think?
I tend to say "Really sorry, you aren't my type" which tends to be taken well. I don't get a nasty reply from that. |

We've only received nasty messages after turning guys down. And those messages we laugh at. We don't message couples who are looking for slim people but we do giggle at the ones who say they are slim cos they respect their bodies too much. We tend to talk to most people not matter how they look or whatever.
For every nasty comment you get, there will be 100 genuine compliments and those are the ones that you should remember

But they can be so much fun to have a battle of wits with do you not think? Or is it just me? "
Sometimes that is fun, but it takes both sides to have wit |

It's amazing the depths some people resort to when being turned down.
On another site, a man that I had turned down, accused me of being 'economic with the truth' and challenged me to send him a pic of myself (he hadn't seen one) to prove that I wasn't overweight.
I just ignored him and didn't respond, thinking that I made the right decision to refuse him in the end. |

"In 8 years I've had one rude message about my size and that just said "your fat""
Maybe the slim one's do attract the most abuse for some reason! Sorry not being a slight on you at all but if I have been here for 6 years and have had over a dozen from complete strangers and you have been here for 8 and only had 1, plus add in the laws of locality, my is bloody high do you not agree?
Or maybe it is the Scottish men? There must be some reason??? |

"Not about my physique , but I got chatting with a young lady , we swapped numbers and she asked for a face pic ,I explained I was at work , dirty sweaty and unshaven , and wearing a ridiculous deputy dawg hat , she said it's ok just send one , so I did , my response was "are you taking the piss" and instantly blocked on phone and fab "
Dirty sweaty and unshaven sounds pretty spot on to me!
Maybe she just preferred Disney character hats? |

I had a message that I was fat and a turn off. and then this lady deleted her profile.
I guess she had a problem and was going to leave anyway.
so it had probably more to do with herself than with me.
I don't see why anyone should do that.
I get messages sometimes from people who are not my type at all. why should I insult them. I say "thanks. no thanks." |

"On the back of another thread, I'd really like to ask all you lovely slim/athletic ladies (or men) the following:
Have you ever had a nasty message about your physique?
I ask as we have. I'm a 'large' woman - say so on our profile - and, in the past, we've had comments on my size. I also know of other women who have been mailed out of the blue such things as "Why are you on here, you're too fat!"
I'm really interested in your answers. This isn't intended to get at any specific body type, just a bit of Saturday afternoon curiosity
Mrs" . I have on occasions received a nasty message ..I am not bothered about them as it is a reflection on those who write them and I just consider them to be hopelessly inadequate individuals who can only resort to make nasty comments about other people .. |

I've had the 'too fat' ones as well...but only after I've written back politely declining to meet them. Funny how you suddenly gain all that wait in the space of two messages. Most of my nasty ones are relating to my being married though. People will always find something they think will be hurtful so yes I'm sure thin women get weight related insults too. |
