There seems to be a long standing association between sex and all things satanic. I've often wondered why this is. My view is that something so perfect beween consenting people, that gives them so much pleasure, is quite the opposite. If I wasn't meant to have such desire, I wouldn't be so full of lust.
I suspect most of it stems from religious beliefs but, if you ever take time to read the Old Testament, on which Christianity and I understand Islam are based, there's some pretty well thought of people who have done some pretty nasty things to get their way when it comes to sex.
I'm not a religious nut by the way, I do believe in something bigger, in fact I think I'm a bit of a polytheist, but I'm never going to know for sure so I don't spend time trying to prove one way or another.
Anyhow, I just wondered what views were on this, do you think it's wrong/forbidden/even evil. Or, like me, do you think it's a gift of who/or whatever, to be taken full advantage of.
As I say, just curious.......oh an bored

Of course anything so good has to be made evil to keep us under control. What is evil is the way a whole industry has built up to exploit our sexual urges..anyone remember the swinging sixties? Goes to look for his flares. |

As far as I know, there has never been a war over sex. Wars are the result of religion or land disputes, that's evil.
If we are to beleive in "our creator" ,who ever that may be, why were we one of the only creatures on earth given the ability to derive pleasure from sex, if it's an evil act?
Sex isn't evil aslong as it's not with children,animals or certain vegetables  |

but, if it gives great pleasure to those people, and its consenting, is that not a good thing. If Porn, prostitutes, causal dating sites prevent one innocent person from getting raped, or worse, Isn't that a good thing? I think consenting sex makes the world a better place. |

Our very survival depends on sex and then nurturing for many years. Hence monogamy and that idea that sex is a duty and inappropriate thoughts about random members of the opp sex should be soundly chastised and the devil scourged from the miscreant.
We can create hobby bubbles to do everything apart from have consenting sex it seems. |

I never read one religious tex from any of the main religions that stated sex was "evil" it's very subjective and boils down to circumstances for instance eg a woman may cheat on a man the act see had with another was not evil between them it was passionate and enjoyable , the the consequence of tht action was evil as it hurt her partner .
One could argue dose evil even exist or is it simply the a dance of good ??? |

It's seen as wrong to have sex with anyone other than your partner . So being on here and enjoying it with others is seen as evil by some .
Lines that get crossed such as anal / bisexuality / bdsm / etc.... also are deemed wrong by many .
But if you and the people you partake of such atrocities with are happy then is it really evil ? Or satanic ?
There isn't really an answer to that but for now we will continue to enjoy such debauchery

Unless the things reproducing are evil. Then sex would be evil.
Someone also mentioned pleasure, what if our purpose isn't to receive pleasure? Does seem weird our bodies allow us to have pleasure, but we also know that our bodies can mess up, what if pleasure is madness?
Until we know our purpose, and obviously we might not even have have a purpose, then we don't now what is right and what's wrong. We cannot define evil until we know what is wrong exactly, and nobody knows for sure. So we just try and live in the way that ensures everything is controlled and works for us. But not all of us, only those who want to be a part of the control group. |

It used to be the Roman Catholic position that 'fornication is only for procreation'.
I think in most texts based on the Old Testament sex is for reproduction and not pleasure. I think other non Abraham based religions are more relaxed about sex for fun between married couples.
That being said the Old Testament contains the Song of Solomon which is dedicated to sex and has the wonderful line 'Thy two breasts are like two young roes that are twins, and feed among the lilies.' |

Two answers:
1) Yes, if it doesn't involve me.
2) In the main, the Abrahamic religions feel sex between a married couple for the procreation of children is good. This includes sex with your wife's servants, and even any women you capture personally in war.(with the caveat you have to let the women go after a year, and look after the children).
Anything else, including wanking or sex purely for pleasure can expect you to get a bit of smiting.
I think it's turned into more a control mechanism. Find something natural, that everyone likes to do, make them feel guilty for wanting to do it, then tell them you can absolve their sins if they pay you money, or go off to fight against your enemies.
I did once look into the Indian religions, where they feel sex is the closest you can ever get to god, since he must be present inside you both at the point of conception. Hence the temples decorated with sexual carvings. Unfortunately even they advised that the common man may find this too much, so should leave the rampant bonking to the priests, and instead have simpler pleasures such as meat or chocolate!

I think that's why our school skipped that bit, moving straight from plagues and smiting of heathens to virgin births and women keeping their heads covered lest they inflame men's passion.
I suspect there'd be a lot more interest in the PRS exam if there was more discussion about breathing on lady-gardens!!

A lot of the pagan communities whether theist or not had a rather more open attitude to non monogamous non heterosexual relationships...suppressing that was a form of control particularly of reproduction...so play to people's most basic fears, death and eternal punishment as many religions do to bring people into line... |

I don't think that sex is evil
However, I think that having sex with multiple partners (and I am guilty of that) leaves one desensitised, feeling shallow and exposed to a higher risk of STIs
So, maybe there is something useful in those religions afterall |
