Disability..??
Jump to: Newest in thread
Like to open debate on this subject and gauge opinion.
To be a truely inclusive society, surely this type of activity, those with dissabilties should not be excluded.
I know for some not a comfortable subject as for the intamissy that participants may share.
Thoughts please. |

I was born with (and still have) spina biffida, although very mild and very few of the "tell tale signs" it hasn't stopped people I meet, if anything I'm over conscious.
It depends, I think on the person you're trying to meet with. |

Who says that they are excluded? Disabilities comes in various forms. Cognitive, physical disabilities. If people have the ability to function in a sexual activity why would they be excluded? |

Was a great post about disability a week or so ago. And it was pretty much general opinion then that people are not excluded.
Rules of attraction still apply. |

Wow, so pleased with the encouraging early responce.
For me , out and about I often see those with disabilties and think how attractive they are.
It would not be a barrier for me...
Ha ha in certain circumstances could get an extra thrill from it.
No reason why those with dissablity who earn for attention and touch from those with ability, and vise versa. |

I suppose it depends what you define as a disability because some are not noticeable doesn't make them any less of an issue for the person to whom is affected. But most certainly no people with disabilities should never be made to feel any less worthy than any other individual. X |

Wow... Wtf maybe I'm missing somthing here but wow..... To even suggest somthing like this is horrible.. I don't want to offend because we all have our fantasies and i try not to be judgemental about anyone but for someone to even suggest this is wrong and to go through with it would be abusive... Are you talking someone fully conscious with a limb missing or are you going full Down syndrome? |

So to have sex with someone who has a disability is wrong and abusive? If a person has mental capacity then it is not abusive. Many people who have Down Syndrome can function in everyday life activities, which actually can include sex. The OP in his post did not mention anything about fantasies. So yes I think you are missing the question. |

Maybe you need to more clear about disabilities because it covers a wide range from a toe missing to fully blown Down syndrome or worse, these are people with the mind of a child and should by no means even be concidered for sex!!!! |

Seriously. There are many Down Syndrome people that hold jobs,go to mainstream schools. To categorise that they have minds of a child is quite beyond belief. As you put disabilities covers a wide range so does people who have Downs. Who are you to say that they can not have sex. They have needs as much as anyone. I am not talking about swinging but sex. We have evolved with care and support for people with learning disabilities, they are actually living in the community and not locked away from society. If they have the mental capacity to understand sex and the implications then they have a right to practice.

There is a difference between physical disabilities and learning disabilities. If there are learning difficulties which make an individual more vulnerable then extra care must be taken to ensure they understand relationships, love , sex, pregnancy etc. It doesn't mean they shouldn't have a sex life. |

Finally someone with abit of sence... Not at one point did I say there not allowed but I think a normal functioning adult engaging with someone with learning disabilities is totally wrong!!!! |

But what you are suggesting there are people who do not have the ability to consent to sex there for it would be abuse which is not what this thread is about at all |

I have a friend, Mark, who isn't on this site. He is hemiplegic and brain injury after a car crash. However he knows I swing and he suggested having a swinging party at his apartment (a neatly new and lovely 3 bed/3 bathroom rather posh place).
He certainly didn't get left out during the party!
Sadly his daughter has come back from college to live with him...so no more parties for a while! |

"In what way do you feel disabled people are excluded from swinging?
A lot of clubs have dreadful- or no- disabled access. "
This is true but I suppose it all comes down to cost effective, most clubs are on more than one floor and to put lifts in would cost a lot of money, if only one it two people every month went who needed it would it really pay them to put lifts in?
I'm not saying they shouldn't I'm just looking at it from a business point if view
Saying that there is a guy in a wheel chair who goes to r3tro and they carry him up |

True but the same can be said for many businesses, shops bars nightclubs etc, and swinging isn't limited to clubs |

I was disabled out of the forces after the Falklands war. Since then I have undergone 60 operations on my legs and have had twice a total knee replacement .It has never stopped me swinging or having fun. I have a few physical limitations but you find ways to overcome those. Most people I have met have never commented about my disability. |

I understand the business point of view, I agree. I was just pointing it out as one way that a disabled person may feel excluded in the swinging world.
Good for the guy at r3tro! There's some good people. |

Some peoples takes are worryingly skewed
Not come across too many people with any forms of disability on Fab.
As a couple with a severely disabled Male we initially thought we'd struggle to get a meet but the swinging community has/is very accepting on the whole
Met some amazing people & we've had some mind blowing meets
Life to short

It's people like you that make me sick..sorry but had to be said I had a brain injury leaving me with 20 years memory loss..had to learn to walk and talk feed clothe and wash myself after my hubby became my carer...now I'm on the up after 4 years...We love sex and should be no discrimination no matter what disability you have. I understand people's shallow minded Ness and think it disgusting that they would ever contemplate meeting anyone disabled. .but if that's the case their loss...rant over sorry any offence caused...

How did you reach this conclusion? Whatever difficulties someone may have, they are still entitled to a sex life (Human Rights Convention) . It's just a matter of things being considered a bit more carefully.
If this was actually practised the way it should be a lot of people with would be a whole lot happier mentally and I should imagine less violent attacks through sexual frustration would occur. |

As long as the person has a functioning adult mind and is able to communicate (by voice, sign, eye gaze or whatever other method they use) their consent & participation then their disabilities do not come into it.

You have to define true inclusive and disability.
Would you employ a blind painter and decorator, or a deaf receptionist, or a wheelchair use as a firefighter...
There are roles for everyone, if we are all realistic. |

Shamen is disabled and a part time wheelchair user. But she is by far the most exciting and experimental partnee i have had she has an appetite for sex that puts shame to my ex wives (there are 2). The only downside, when she has pain then obviously its no fun for anyone (hoorah for medication) this leads to last minute meet requests and lack of understanding from people if we have to cancel a prearranged meet. Other than that generally people accept us for who we are... xxxx |
